Mission Summary
Galileo's sudden reappearance from the Mirror Universe is a blessing for Starfleet. Not only has the starship's return absolved the Klingon Empire from any intentional and speculated blame for destroying the task force command vessel, but it also presents Starfleet with valuable insight into the most recent political landscape of the infamous parallel universe -- a universe which has a history of forced incursions into the Prime Universe, and has always posed a security threat to the good order and nature of the UFP.
Badly damaged and barely capable of sustained operations after her return, Galileo is rescued near the Nimbus system by a passing Galaxy-class and towed back to Starbase 84 where the starship is temporarily docked for critical repairs. Following a brief one-week stay at the complex, the Nova-class is then ordered to Jupiter Station in the Sol system for further repairs, and the vessel's command staff is ordered to Starfleet headquarters in San Fransisco to conduct a full debrief.
Meanwhile, the rest of the crew are granted a lengthy shore leave to relax and unwind from their traumatic experiences. The Exeter science symposium is coincidentally being held at Jupiter Station around the same period, and select members of Galileo's crew are invited to attend and share their research and discoveries in both the Prime and Mirror universes. An annual scientific gathering of all the Federation's most prominent scientific minds, the Exeter syposium is not only a prestigious and exclusive event, but also a chance for the crew to make an everlasting name for themselves in Starfleet history.
