Mission: Episode 04 - Exodus
Location: USS Galileo - Bridge, Various
Timeline: MD 03 - 0030 hrs

Previously, on Ambush (Part 1)...

"Ok, Lieutenant, I think I have something. It may be a bit out there, but it's working off the idea I see you've been developing on the Bridge. I was thinking about adding a fractal recursion to Jared's - I mean, to Lieutenant Nicholas's - algorithm. It would mean the rate of information would increase in response to assimilation attempts: increase exponentially, in fact. The more the Borg tried to assimilate, the more likely it would be to cause an overload. I'm an ecologist, so I really don't know much about any of this, but I was basing it off the growth patterns of bacteria colonies."

She held her breath, not sure whether she was really contributing anything of use at all: the way the ship was rocking, studying bacteria growth patterns hardly seemed to be the major priority.

And Now, the Continuation...

Bridge

Twisting and turning as her large RCS thrusters fired their propellant, Galileo executed a swift series of evasive maneuvers as it attempted to flee outside of weapons range from the Borg probe. Her shuttlecraft provided a distraction to the menacing oblong ship which briefly focused its weapons fire on both Marina and Virginia, severely damaging the Type-9 and eventually forcing the runabout to retreat back to its mothership. Galileo returned fire from her rear phaser arrays which struck the probe and dealt moderate damage, and her aft torpedo launcher cycled and released volleys of quantum torpedoes every three seconds until the launcher began to overheat.

"Nice! Helm adjust our course - take us deeper into the nebula, let's see if we can't disrupt their targeting systems a little further! Lieutenant Rice, see if you can't get a lock on a couple of power nodes - if we can disrupt their regeneration procedures we might be able to get the upper hand."

John punched the area with pleasure as he saw the multiple torpedo strikes against the Borg vessel. Whilst it might have been the smallest class of ship in the Collective's arsenal, it was still more than a challenge for the Galileo to go up against.

Aria however was not laughing. She kept firing, grimacing at the way the rotations were going. Without any hesitation she brought up the third panel, adding in some codes for the pattern of fire. She was humming to herself. And it wasn't exactly cheery music either she was filling her head with mentally to cope with what the hell was going on. She shouldn't be here. Where the hell was Rhodes? She swallowed back the doubt, narrowing her eyes. "Come on, you sons of bitches...come and get it..."

S'Ranna knew the Borg probe navigational array could adapt to their evasive patterns, so she kept one paw ahead by switching to a custom pattern she had devised on the holodeck - though was yet to test in a live situation. Her paws swished over the console as she input the sequence for evasive patern Kappa Alpha Tango. But despite the surety of her movements, she was extremely stressed and losing her calm: her mane and tail were both frizzy with tension, her eyes moon-wide, her breathing fast and shallow.

"Taking us into the nebula, Commanderrr," she hissed, the words practically drowned out as a shower of sparks sprayed across her vision. She switched to Mark 104.8, taking them directly into the nebula, and once the course was locked in switched to manual fine helm control for the micro-adjustments so that she could continue to try to outthink the Borg.

Runabout Marina

As the battle heated up around them Marina took a major hit. It wasn't long before Dea felt her part of her left arm and wrist flare up in pain from a console that shorted out due to battle damage. Shoving aside her injuries, Mialin's next order was directed to Sylver, "Find us the closest possible vector back to Galileo that keep us out of the Borg line of fire as much as possible."

"Yes ma'am," he said as he found a route for them...that would hopefully get them there. He had hit his head when they were hit and he blinked, trying to clear his vision. He could feel the blood run down from a cut. But headwounds always bled and he didn't have time to deal with it.

Dea contacted Galileo with a Mayday. At this point she wanted to get the runabout back to the shuttlebay in one piece. "Mialin to Galileo. We're attempting to return to the ship. Systems are still functional but we've taken a major hit.
Have a medical team report to the shuttle bay and emergency ground crew as well."

S'Ranna read the incoming message urgently, and turned to Holliday again, her voice thick with emotion, her ears flattened and fur ruffled.

"Sirrr, I must rrreporrrt: the Marrrina has taken heavy damage. The rrrunabout will have to rrreturrrn to the ship, and they have rrrequested a medical team in the shuttlebay!"

=^=Marina this is Galileo, understood - return to base. =^=

=^= Roger that. Doing our best to return to base =^= Dea's voice could be heard over the comm. As hard as she tried her tone held distinct hints of tension and pain in it.

Closing the comm channel, the XO slapped his badge once more. Marina had done more than the Galileo could have hoped of her to do, but no small craft was likely to stand up against the Borg for any length of time.

=^=Holliday to Sickbay - medical team to the Shuttlebay. Prepare for recovery operations. =^=

Allyndra always cringed when people used her house name as a sort of surname but there was no time to explain. =^=This is Allyndra, please send directly to sickbay. We may have a problem with Triage in Cargo Bay One until further notice=^=

Shuttlecraft Virginia

Inside the Type-9 shuttle, Lamar glanced over at his situational awareness monitor and noticed Marina taking severe damage. Although much larger and more heavily armed than a traditional shuttlecraft, the runabout was nonetheless hampered by its small size, which meant it had less shielding and hull integrity than larger starships in the fleet.

"Marina's been hit pretty bad...I can see them venting drive plasma. Looks like they're trying to return to Galileo." he reported to Ral with a bit of urgency in his deep voice. "Maybe we can give them some cover while they try to land?" he proposed, looking over at the Klingon hybrid.

"That's a good idea," Nenokah said with a curt nod. "But we can only do so much." Nonetheless, the Virginia was soon at the Marina's defense.

Lamar waited until Ral brought them into position then unleashed a salvo of phaser fire against the probe, striking it with several concentrated bursts. The Borg ship took the bait and diverted its weapons away from the runabout, and now focused them on the smaller shuttle. "Looks like we got their attention!" he called out as the shuttle suddenly shook violently under a heavy barrage of green energy fire. "I'm losing power to the shields!" he yelled as a console next to him exploded and sparks flew across his peripheral vision.

Nenokah ignored the flying sparks as she tried to get the craft out of the line of fire. "Hold on to something!" she yelled. Before Lamar could answer she sent the craft into a downward spiral, the quickest way out of fire. Out of the direct line of fire, Nenokah breathed for a moment to get her bearings.

Virginia did its best to evade the Borg weapons but a well-timed hit struck the Type-9's starboard nacelle and ruptured the warp coils and outer casing. The craft began to spin uncontrollably and Lamar saw blurry stars streak across the cockpit as the G-forces pinned him to the side of his seat. "Inertial dampers are offline! We've lost one of the nacelles!"

"Hu'tegh!" Nenokah swear loudly, angry that she had allowed the Borg to get such a direct hit. "Galileo, this is Lt. Ral. I am requesting--" Before she could finish the craft was struck again. Nenokah let formality to fall by the wayside. "Beam us out now, dammit!"

Kate clicked her antennae in agitation as she turned her attention back to the patterns she was holding on standby, one Human, one Klingon/Betazoid. The shuttlecraft had been knocked into a violent spin, the targeting scanners shrieking in response to the resulting confusion of the patterns. The venting plasma from the damaged nacelle was adding to the problems, interspersing the target area with ion particles that were confusing the matter stream identifiers.

"Hold on Lieutenant click! I am getting you out click! now!" Kate replied through the comm channel, rasping in her tinny insectoid voice. She then took a deep breath, her carapace rattling slightly, and set to work. She used two of her hands for each pattern and a third pair to reconfigure the sensors to compensate for the gravitational forces: if she didn't, they'd end up being crushed as they materialised on the other end of the annular confinement beam. She watched the Heisenberg compensator readings steadily spiking, her hands working furiously to keep ahead. Just as the reading was dangerously close to the red zone of 1400+ kilowatts, she jabbed down.

"Ener click! gizing!"

Two swirling blue patterns began to materialise on the transporter pad: Ral and Lamar. Kate gave a relieved click of her antennae and turned her attention back to the other craft.
