Previously, on Risk vs. Reward (Part 4)...

John looked up in horror at the sight of a ship so close to the Galileo's hull, so close that he could have reached out and touched it had it been only a few metres closer towards them. Grabbing onto his chair, the XO yelled into his combadge.

=^=All Hands this is the XO - brace for impact, repeat brace for impact!=^=

And Now, the Continuation...

[ON]

It had happened so quickly. By the time Kohl and Quinn had identified the object and Lirha had swiveled her head around to look, the probe had fired on her ship. She barely had time to clutch the side of the monitor on the wall before her ship's shields flared bright blue as they attempted to absorb the impact. The ship rocked violently from the hits, sending Lirha to the floor with a loud "oomph!". Galileo's alert lighting quickly changed and began to pulse red throughout the ship, and the overhead lights dimmed to signal an emergency.

In her thoughts as Allyndra tried to regain her feet in the crowded room was that they had challenged the teeth of the storm and the storm had answered. The idea of her research was now long fled from her mind as it knew that they would be lucky to even survive this.

The violent force of the attack nearly threw Galileo's newest engineer from his seat. Instead, he rode out the shaking and looked for orders, already anticipating what they would be.

Nat rolled her eyes as the ship jogged violently. Couldn't the Gamma shift crew at least keep it steady? She glanced up to see whether anyone shared her frustration - and finally twigged that they were being attacked by what appeared to be a Borg probe.

"Quelle horreur!" She dropped her PADD and stood up, fungi forgotten (for now).

S'Ranna barely flinched as the ship was struck, maintaining her balance thanks to the stabilising effect of her tail. Other tailless humanoids were less fortunate, though, so she offered a paw or two to help some of them back up. Her mane was frizzy with the fear and anxiety she could feel, and her breathing was ragged, a throaty hrrrrrrrr-prrrrrrr snorting from her muzzle with every thump of her racing pulse.

One minute she was sitting the next Dea found herself on the floor. She picked herself up off the floor. There was no time to discuss things with her staff, they'd have to deal with this one on fly. Not allowing herself to truly think about what a mission in a shuttle might mean for Dea and Ral.

Setting her PADD down so she could listen to the captain, Victoria looked up just in time to see the rest of the crew moving their gazes to the viewport. She turned her head just as the Borg probe fired on the ship, the impact hurling her to the floor. "D'anam 'on diabhal!" she shouted, vehemently and in Gaelic.

Mor'an dropped to her hunches to brace against the hit, saving herself from falling unceremoniously to the floor. Gripping the wall behind her, Mor'an regained her feet and helped the fallen crew member next to her. She kept her ears alert for orders.

Quinn made it to Tarish just in time to shield her from falling debris and covered her with his on body.

Jacob saw the probe materialize at the last microsecond and was about to alert all when the hit came. It took a great deal of his strength to hold on the console in front of him. His mind raced as he quickly thought about to do next.

"All hands, red alert! Get to your stations!" the captain yelled from her position on the ground as she tried her best to scramble to her feet. A Borg probe, although it was the smallest of the Collective's vessels, was more than a match for Galileo in an even engagement. If she and her crew were to survive this encounter, they had to think fast and outside the box.

Fahad shoved his chair back and moved for the doorway toward the nearest turbolift. He was not alone. "Engineering," he commanded as the lift filled with other officers.

Nat scooped her PADD from the floor and made a mad dash for the Science Labs: she had been worse than useless on the Bridge last time, but at least she'd more at home in the labs unit. She looked around to see whether any other Science Officers she knew would be accompanying her there.

S'Ranna hastily dashed towards the corridor to go up to the Bridge. My first shift at the conn, and it is as we are being attacked by the Borg! Her mouth went dry as she considered how much she had been hoping for a little excitement - and how when that excitement arrived, the wish seemed so very churlish. It was only as she stepped into the turbolift that she remembered that she still had not changed: hopefully no one would mind a navigator clad in a cartoon-emblazoned onesie, because she doubted the Borg would be accommodating enough to pause their assault that she could carry out a quick costume change.

Allyndra got to her feet, she knew that everyone in medical would be heading the same place, to sickbay. It was from there that assignments would be made presuming they survived this initial onslaught. "By the Queen of Night's Promise," she muttered, "let us live to fight another day." She waited for just a moment as the press of people exited the door for hollow bones and a press of bodies did not make for a good mix.

Holding back with Allyndra, Kohl looked over to her and shared a supportive smile. Despite the shape his face made, he couldn't hide the worry in his eyes. Only once Allyndra was ready, did Kohl stride purposefully towards the exit.

Kate had been sleeping in a tight ball, but as the red alert sirens sounded she instantly uncurled, stretching all eight legs and wiggling her antennae. One glance at the console in her quarters confirmed her worst suspicions, and she grabbed up her combadge, pinning it to her bony yellow carapace, and scuttled out of the door, running on all eight feet to go quicker as she careened in a blur of insectoid speed towards Engineering: her years of transporter expertise could be valuable in tackling whatever threat they were currently facing. Her face was calm and betrayed no emotion, but anyone familiar with the Nasat would notice her antennae twitching quite fretfully.

Jared just watched in fascinated horror as the images became all too real for him.

With her PADD in hand Dea she exited the Observation lounge at a run. Tapping her comm badge. "Mialin to Ral, Darius and Sylver report to the Primary Shuttlebay." On some level it worried her that S'Ranna had been thrown into the fire upon the Flight Control Officers arrival aboard Galileo but that would also give Dea a chance to truly see how her new officer performed under pressure.

The captain's yelled orders had barely faded before Mor'an was sprinting towards the door of the lounge. Dashing down the corridors, she gave little heed to those in her path, so intent was she on reaching the Bridge.

Before he dashed to his station, Quinn gave Tarish a quick kiss. "Get somewhere safe!"

Victoria sprinted to the doors, forgetting her PADD on the table. Her only thought was to get to the bridge and get to work. She was out for blood and she took that attitude with her to her station.

Grabbing hold of the table, John pulled himself off the floor and shot towards the door, his place was on the Bridge and he was damned if a little Borg pea-shooter was going to stop him from getting there. Emerging onto the Bridge, the XO leapt over the bar at the rear of the two command chairs and settled into his seat almost instantly.

"Battle stations!"

Scarlet wasn't far behind, letting out a tight breath at the throb in the back of her head as she moved quickly, shaking her head clear even as she viturally slung herself down into the seat to start collecting what reports she could from around the ship.

"Captain, I am going to try to increase the natural magnetic resonance around our ship slightly to make it more difficult for the Borg to try and beam aboard the ship if that is in their plans!" Jacob's fingers flew quickly over the console allowing a very tiny portion of the warp core's matter/antimatter dispersed energy to envelop the inner layer of the ship's shield and thereby increasing the magnetic field produced by all ships, starports, space stations and orbital species made objects that produce artificial gravity.
