Mission: Episode 14 - Statecraft
Location: IKS DuJa'Q - Various
Timeline: MD 01 - 1540 hrs

Previously, on DuJa'Q (Part 3)...

Lirha continued to assist and moved on to the communications sub-display. After translating and pointing out the different words and tactile options available in the interface, she then proceeded to the damage control screen which was more visual and intuitive than the previous ones. "Here, this shows you current allocations and damage states. Bulkhead breaches are displayed in red while minor fractures are displayed in yellow. Anything in gray is considered by the system to be inoperable...destroyed." she said.

Mimi watched as Lirha showed her through everything. "Hopefully by the end of this everything will still be green." she said smiling as much as her battered jaw would allow.

And Now, the Conclusion...

The slight delay in departure due to crew acclimation and console translations had been expected, but it nevertheless forced a sense of urgency into the Orion general's thoughts. She'd returned to her station on the bridge -- her large command chair at the forward-center of the chamber -- and was now staring out into the hazy flamingo clouds of the nebula. Kreanus, the ice world she never wanted to return to, floated nearby in the corner of the screen, but their destination was now out into the stars.

She thumbed the chair's armrest console and activated the battlecruiser's internal broadcast system. "All hands, this is General Saalm," her voice echoed across the metallic walls of every corridor and room on each deck. "Many of you know me as Galileo's captain...others of you know me as Commander Medara's instrument. I do not care if you are Human or Klingon -- Kreanan or Starfleet -- we have both been assigned a mission for which the future of our respective people remains in the balance. Any differences you may have with each other have no place on my warship. We must be in full cooperation if we wish to achieve our goal and make our journey a success."

"Our assignment will take us out of the Paulson Nebula, through Federation space, across the Neutral Zone, and into Klingon territory. Once we've arrived at our destination, we will secure the security and sovereignty of Kreanus and its inhabitants," she continued. "We will proceed under cloak for the duration of this journey. We may encounter hostile forces along the way, but our mission is not to engage them. Patience, cunning, and stealth will be our weapons if we hope to succeed." Lirha paused and took a breath before saying a silent prayer to her spirits. "Prepare for immediate departure. All stations report."

Allyndra heard the call come in that the ship was departing and the call to readiness. The voice seemed oddly familiar but who knew with the systems that they were dealing with along with all the time on Kreanus and attendant problems. =^=As much as we will ever be=^= She replied.

"Science is about what you expect for the sort of ship ma'am. However I would appreciate the chance to talk to you and the CO at some point ma'am." She tried to convey urgency without giving away the anomalies she had found. Steph rubbed her face nervously as she was being watched like a hawk.

"Acknowledged," Saalm replied. Since the Orion was both the mission commander and senior-ranking officer aboard the battlecruiser, she was the acting CO and would oversee any requests made of her. She wasn't very familiar with the voice but assumed it to be Lieutenant Fraiser, one of the fellow Starfleet officers on the colony who had volunteered to assist the Galileo crew in their mission. Lirha wasn't particularly selective about any last-minute additions, and the more help they could get, the greater the chances of their success.

"Operations is.... as ready as it will ever be." Mimi called out, she was still figuring it out but thanks to Lirha's help she had the basics down.

Miraj looked at all the alien digits floating around the helm panel. "Helm ready," she replied. She wasn't sure it was true, but she wanted to get underway.

Amaranai had stayed away from the conversations. Things were crazy, yes, but nothing that she would ask or even anything the admiral would answer would help the situation until the current mission was over. Instead, she made her way to the back of the bridge and found one of the tactical stations. She sat down, and stared. Despite not knowing Klingon, she had a general sense of the tactical console. Of course, she would get Commander Ban to go over a few indicators once they were under way, but for now, she was going to be alright. Besides, the admiral had just mentioned they wouldn't be engaging any hostile forces. Her thoughts raced a moment and considered the situation from Starfleet's point of view. If Starfleet were to notice the Klingon ship in Federation territory, they would attack. She would definitely have to be ready.

"Tactical ready," she said and looked at the console again.

Pressing a few buttons to fire the disruptors might not be too terrible. And the shield layout was similar to what she had seen on the Galileo, even if it was older looking.

The combination of sorting his way about the unfamiliar systems while processing the news that came down the way of Lihra's return was almost overwhelming, but Terje pressed the conflict to the back of his mind to focus on the matter at hand. To his credit, he had a fairly comfortable grip on things when the check call came through. "Security reporting in," Terje replied.

With all stations reporting ready, Lirha gave the orders to depart. "Helm, secure warp drive until we are clear from the nebula," the general ordered. "Set course 187 mark-083, one-eighth impulse. Configure navigation sensors on on narrowband to 115 GHz. Ensign Mimi, divert full power to lateral and forward sensors. Short-range only. Tactical, engage the cloak." Lirha gave a short pause before bringing her arm down. "Execute."

Miraj looked down. Disengaging warp drive was easy. she knew how to do that without looking. The rest...? The navigational sensors were already tuned to the right wavelength. She thought. She concentrated on laying in the course, her typing painfully slow in comparison to her usual speed, but she needed to get the strange glyphs in the right order or they could end up flying straight into Kreanus. She got it in, checked it twice, and hoped.

'Sensors... sensors' Mimi thought as she worked through the symbols slowly finding the one Lirha had shown. 'lateral and forward...' tapping the ones that looked right she waited and it eventually worked

As she sat there, Amaranai was looking over the console, hoping to simply comprehend the language and not cause a problem if weapons were needed. Amaranai heard the call for the cloaking device and she looked to the captain. She then looked down at her console for a moment and stopped. She had not been given a tutorial on it just yet but was not in a place to ask for one now. After a moment, she took a guess and pressed a button. There was an alarm and then the lighting changed. Amaranai made a mental note of the button that she pressed to engage the cloak so that she would remember when it was time to disengage.

When the cloak was engaged, a single warning siren sounded throughout the vessel. The yellow ambient lighting in the bridge dimmed and was replaced by a subtle red hue which signified their commitment to stealth and the art of war. Lirha leaned back in her chair and clasped her gloved hands at her abdomen.

With inputs from the helm, IKS DuJa'Q slowly came about as her thrusters fired in order to reorient the starship. Her impressive bulk and menacing presence gleamed brilliantly against the backdrop of Kreanus and the nebula. The battlecruiser's two primary impulse exhausts glowed red-hot with the injection of fresh deuterium, and cast the rear engineering hull in a crimson wake before the hull shimmered and vanished into the cosmos.
