Jeremy walked in, expecting to find all of his department members but Rhodes, Smoak and Chandra present. Smoak and Chandra were on Gamma so they may not have assembled for the department briefing exactly on time and Rhodes was on the bridge, having already been briefed.

He was surprised to see Smoak there as he did a quick headcount before continuing through the room and to the station. He resisted the urge to check the bridge station - not wanting Rhodes to feel as if he were being spied upon. He did go through the video feeds, however, looking specifically for their 'guests' who should have come aboard by now.

Chara hurried in almost on cue, offering the rest of the department who had gathered a quick, but silent nod and sitting in the first available chair. She had a PADD in her hand and laid it on her lap, in case there were any specifics.

Cyrus swung in quickly after after the crewman. "Hey Greenhorn," he piped finding a chair and spinning it reverse style before sitting down, slumping his forearms along the back of the chair.

The Tellarite pursed her lips and muttered, "Afternoon, Chief."

Gabriel Stark stretched out as he entered the room, lifting his arms over his head as he arched his back. He was trying not to focus on the fact it was a meeting, after what had happened at the other one. He dropped down into a chair, sighing as he took the chance to stretch his legs out. He was stiffening up after being much more physical than intended. And now he was paying for it.

Aria walked in with a slight frown, taking a breath as she sat down...and next to Stark, of course. She smiled as she nudged him, her eyes gentle before she at back with a sigh. Plus side, it was technically on her shift.

"We are set to arrive at the Rojar System in a day and a half. The initial survey scans show that there is deuterium, dilithium and latinum in abundance, as well as several M-class moons orbiting a gas super giant. We must be aware of roving bands of mercenaries - to include Romulan privateers." He scowled at the station while continuing to flick through the video screens. "We are also close to what the Federation has long considered to be 'Borg space'. Several of the senior staff has discounted any danger from Borg remnants, I am not going to do so."

The Borg. Chara stared at the table in front of them, hoping her surprise wasn't as evident as it felt. How could they defend against the Borg, on a ship like Galileo? They would have to be able to prevent being assimilated. She absorbed the rest of it as well. Pirates. Most of them probably scavengers. And those Romulan folks were hyped as ever. Those were some pretty big risks. Was Rojar really that important? She frowned to herself. "Will we be working with the Venture on these issues?" she finally spoke up when no one else looked like they were going to. "The Galileo is pretty small to take on risks like that on our own."

"I've not yet met with the SecTac of Venture but it seems reasonable to conclude. They are tasked as heavy support for our survey. I hope to contact them soon and make arrangements to work with them on covering away team assignments as well."

"Borg and Romulans and pirates, oh my." Cyrus commented as he heard the news. "So this is a typical survey mission under guard, is that what I understand, sir?"

"References to old Earth frivolity aside," Jeremy muttered glaring at Cyrus. "Part of our job has always been to protect away teams. If you understood otherwise, then you were mistaken."

"Well, at least the mission sounds nice and straight forward," Gabriel let out a long breath. Borg, Romulans, surveying, he could deal with all that. It was the secretive nature of the last mission when no one apart from those in on the secrets knew what was around the corner that had done his head in.

It didn't sound straightforward to Chara. "How are we supposed to defend against the Borg?" Or anybody, for that matter? But at least you could talk to a Romulan. You couldn't talk to a Borg. They didn't care.

"Well, you take a projectile weapon and you shoot them," Aria said softly, looking at Chara with a shrug. "And pray they never get that close to you physically."

Cyrus shrugged. "What the Lieutenant said, Greenhorn." Cyrus replied. "EMP weapons, I'm pretty sure....." He stopped suddenly, trying to catch his breathe from the sudden shock. Panic welled inside his mind, but he kept his face normal. He suddenly coughed to cover it up. "Sorry about that, I meant to say Photon grenades have EMP settings..." He snapped his fingers. "Knocks them right down."

Chara scowled. She knew how to take down a drone. That wasn't her concern. "I'm sorry. I meant, how do we fight against some kind of Borg sphere? We would be assimilated in an instant. If the Borg wanted us dead we would be toast."

"So we make sure we don't let them make us toast, Chara." Cyrus answered. "Besides, it doesn't matter who we fight when it boils down to it, we still have the same job to do."

The Tellarite nodded, a frown set deeply on her face. They had a job to do. They couldn't very well turn around and leave. But if Stone was making this an issue then she wanted a plan of action, something concrete. Being assimilated by the Borg was not on her top ten list of things to do. On the bright side, at least someone around here got her name right.

"The plan for a Borg ship is simple. We turn around and get the hell away from it. I've left standing orders to continuously scan for indications of transwarp conduits. At the first sign of such, the ship should head the other direction and back toward Federation space. We are not armed or equipped to deal with such a threat. However, we will prepare for whatever scenario or eventuality we can conceive. As such, each shift will be responsible for running drills. Reports of such will be forwarded to me for evaluation."

"Isn't there a danger that while we're concentrating on looking for ghost Borg, that the odds say aren't there, we won't be concentrating on the very real and present danger of the Romulan pirates? Which are actually far more likely to find us?" Gabriel ventured, looking around the room with a concerned frown.

"Stark, you are also forgetting, Klingon, Human, Ferangi, Cardassian, and Borg after what Admirals Picard and Janeway pulled. " He covered one eye. "We be lookin fer trouble me hearty, Arrrrrgh." Cyrus teased.

Gabriel couldn't quite suppress his laugh at 'pirate Cyrus', and he tried to cover it with a cough. And hey, at least he was laughing rather than having steam coming out of his ears.

"Chief Kiwoski, you will see me in my office after this meeting," Jeremy said, glaring at the warrant officer. "However, to answer the question, Officer Stark, no. I am not forgetting the very real possibilities. However, Romulan pirates - nor Klingons, Terrans, Ferengis, Cardassians, Orions or any of the other number of marauder groups in the galaxy, hold as much visceral fear as the Borg for most sentient beings. I speculate that it is the loss of individualism that most sentients fear the most - though I personally don't understand that overriding fear - and as such, they tend to be more afraid of the Borg than others. Teach people to overcome their greater fears and then their stupid fear of death at the hands of others will be greatly lessened."

"Yes sir. " Cyrus replied. Half wondering if it was from his joke or if the Lieutenant actually had something for him to do. "I Be foll - " He coughed. "Yes, sir."

"So other than expecting the unexpected, is there any specific training that you would like done?" Kiwosk asked the Chief Security Officer.

"Mister Stark has already been tasked with bringing the department up to calibre on Gauss/phaser weapons that will be issued to each member of the department. I have some other equipment that will be coming out shortly as well, new armor and tech to be used by the security department and TRT - once it gets formed. Our main concern at this time will be boarding parties from hostile forces and surprise attacks to away teams conducting research. Those should be the training focus."

He looked at the department, unaware of his scowl. "Lieutenant Rice, you will be responsible for coordinating the training and drill evaluations and forwarding them to me with recommendations."

"Yes Sir," Aria said, nodding weakly. Great. So basically, booking rooms and watching, recording and forwarding. Paperwork in a glorified form. Hardly anything physically tasking.

"Lieutenant Rice," Jeremy said, flicking through the security feeds. "I do expect you to show these non-coms in the room how officers - " he sighed as he looked at his wrist PADD, reading from it "'kick ass in training scenarios'. Otherwise Chief Kiwoski's head might become even more bulbous than it currently is."

Chara grinned unconsciously, and then tactfully hid it behind her PADD, studying it very intently. Those Romulans sure were interesting!

Jeremy studied his notes. Briefed about threats, responses, training...

"Was there anything else from anybody?" he asked as he looked at the screen of his PADD. Thus far no one had told him off or stormed out. He would take that as part of their improvements.

"For the record, my head is not bulbous. It's just abnormally large."

Jeremy sighed as he made a note on his PADD. "I was attempting to use a common euphemism replacing 'ego' with 'head'. Your fratboy ego is quite large and does not need to be enlarged any further."

"Oh well, since you put it that way." Cyrus decided his next remark would not be wise.

Jeremy scowled as he ran through daily reports and then glanced to make sure the security field's privacy mode was still holding. A quick check also showed no problems with bio scan readings of Ensign Nicholas.

"Unless there was anything else, you are dismissed."

Chara stood and gave them all a nod once more before heading out of the room.

Cyrus simply rested his chair, still wondering what was on the Lieutenant's mind.
