Mission: Episode 03 - Frontier
Location: USS Galileo - Mess Hall
Timeline: MD-01: 2000 hours

ON

Tav's first real shift had gone quickly so far, the backup intermix assembly was almost calibrated and the small team he had been working with had done well. It was however, time for a break, and Tav had made his way to Deck 2 to the Mess Hall to get a bite to eat.

Keval was engrossed in a PAdD with the schematics for an upgraded communications array he was planning to install on the bridge. It was his own design and he really didn't need to check them out, but he was taking no chances.

He was drinking a glass of iced Raktajino, his antennae were curled back slightly and he appeared relaxed.

The mess was relatively empty otherwise, including the chef who was absent from the serving station. Tav opted for a replicated chicken salad, taking a glance around to see who was already here. He spotted the familiar face and headed straight over.

"Mind if I join you, butt?" he asked.

Keval sat up a little straighter almost knocking over his coffee. His antennae moved up, "Oh my gods, Tavish you old reprobate, what in the hell are you doing on the Galileo?"

"I didn't know you were here, or I wouldn't be," Tav replied, smiling as he took the seat opposite. "New posting, I'm now the Assistant Chief Engineer of this fine vessel."

"Congratulations dude, I'm impressed. Really impressed," he replied turning off the PAdD and putting it in his pocket. "So where have you been the last couple of years? I haven' t seen you since, well since I saw you at the graduation party."

"I got posted to the Excalibur, swabbing decks and having my nose wiped by a Chief Warrant Officer," Tav joked. "Three years of running around fixing up a big ship like that and the Chief tells you to find yourself a new job."

"I was on the Hornet, a little Defiant class ship, me and the chief were the operations department. I'm glad you're here. I think you still owe me a drink, or did I owe you? I forget."

"I think I owe you more than a drink," Tav admitted, smiling. "I'm pretty sure that evening in New York didn't pay for itself."

Keval's left antennae quirked forward and a smile played at his lips, "Well let's just say that it didn't come from my cadet pay. I did admire the view though, the skyline and the other, em, sky scrapper too. Just how exactly were you intending on paying me?"

"No idea, do you want something repaied?" Tav asked, a faux-concerned look on his face. "I have some staff doing nothing, I'm sure."

Keval's smile turned to a smirk and he gave his old friend a conspiratorial wink, lowering his voice, but only slightly. "I was hoping for a little more something a little more personal.

"In the mess hall?" Tav asked, his eyebrows raising slightly. "When did you develop such courage?"

Keval's face turned a slightly darker shade of blue, "I really didn't mean HERE and NOW," he replied with a grin, "I'm sure there is some kind of regulation about that, I was thinking some place with just a tad more privacy.

I may have gotten a bit more bold since we met, but I'm not crazy. I heard that a couple of guys got caught doing it in public, one was a civilian, the other was an officer, I don't know if he still is or not, but he got in really big trouble."

"Well, I'm on shift at the moment, but how about after I finish, I'll call round for coffee?" Tav suggested, smiling.

"I'd like that. I do like coffee. Cream and maybe even some sugar."

"Coffee it is then, zero-zero-thirty hours?" the Scot checked.

"Well you know me, I am normally an early morning person, not a night owl, but I think I can stay up for you." the Andorian returned dead pan but with a cheeky grin.

"Well, just don't tell anyone," Tav replied. "I don't want the whole ship finding out."

"I think I can manage to keep our little secret. So how have you been, it's been a while?"

"It has," Tav agreed. "Working mainly, and travelling around the galaxy, nothing too taxing of course. I make friends all over the place and then come across them later."

"I hope some friends are closer than others."

"You know they are," Tav quipped, grinning.

"By the way I don't know if you have had the, em, pleasure of meeting Lieutenant Junior Grade Jeremy Stone but I would steer clear of him. He is a major pain in the ass, and I don't mean that in a good way."

Tav chuckled. Graysan's humour always aired on the side of entendre.

"No, who is he?" he asked, taking another mouthful of salad.

"He is the Chief of Security. I went to see him, following the chain of command, I know that is hard to believe, but I have learned a thing or two since we saw each other. Anyway I went to go volunteer to upgrade their security system and he asked for my qualifications. I told him I helped design the system, showed him some old schematics and the threw my ass in the brig. He thinks I am some kind of undercover spy."
