Mission: Episode 03 - Frontier
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 2 - XO's Office
Timeline: MD09 0800hrs

[ON]

Following the path indicated by the ship's schematic, Marjorie took three tries to find the XO's office. She'd found the observation lounge and holodeck 1 by accident before finally pulling out the map. Hoping this was the right place, she hit the chime and waited to see what fate brought her.

The Ready Room did not usually serve as the XO's home, but with Captain Saalm away from the Galileo, John had taken the liberty of essentially moving in for the next few days. Nothing majorly had changed, with the exception of some additional PADDs and a spare uniform hanging in the closet just in case it was ever needed - all of which would be long gone before Lirha came searching for her own uniform or a change of boots once she was back.

Sometimes however, John found himself longing for the comforts of his own office, and in advance of yet another double shift, the XO had hidden himself away there to at least get some of his additional duties out of the way before yet another double shift.

"Come." He called out, interested to know who would be behind his door at this early an hour.

The opens swished open for her and Marjorie took one step in. More than anything the office seemed normal in both size an decor which allowed Marjorie to focus on way she came rather than try to look at anything distracting. Taking another two steps, she decided she'd come far enough and stood straight at attention. "Ensign Marjorie Horne, reporting for duty as Assistant Chief Operations Officer."

The position of ACOO had needed filling for a while, and John internally breathed a sigh of relief that there was now another set of hands in a very thinly stretched department. Looking up from his work he observed the new officer that had arrived amongst the myriad of new bodies on board the Galileo.

"Welcome aboard Ensign - I'm Commander Holliday. I trust your transfer went smoothly? It's nice to see another Ops officer aboard ship, we've been running a little low on hands for a while now."

"Yes, sir," Marjorie replied in agreement. It did seem like the department was short staffed and her new boss was already throwing assignments their way. Overall, she was happy for the busy feel of this vessel.

The new officer was more than a little quiet - John was used to hearing a little more than just a yes sir from a new recruit - usually they wanted to try and impress their senior officers straight off the bat, but for once it was refreshing to be a little more down to business.

"Excellent - Galileo is a small ship but she has more than enough to keep you busy - I expect you have plans to check in with the Operations Chief before too long?"

"I met him on arrival," Marjorie informed him. "And I reported to a departmental meeting featuring a new shuttlebay." She tended to stick to the facts, especially if this was 'on the record'.

John was impressed with the efficiency of their newest recruit. It was not often that he was further down the list than a meeting with their direct superior, and indeed a department briefing, but the XO could do little to complain.

"Very good Ensign. I appreciate that kind of enthusiasm. In which case if there's nothing more that you need from me, you're free to leave?"

"Thank you, sir," Marjorie chirped before turning on her heel and leaving. The moment the doors closed, she got a bad feeling in the pit of her stomach. Shortest check in ever and with the XO not less. She had never been one for making a great impression, but she wasn't present long enough to make any impression at this point. Somewhat disappointed, the ensign walked off.
