Mission: Episode 03 - Frontier
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 4, Main Shuttlebay
Timeline: MD 06: 1700 hours

[ON]

Victoria's first thought as she clambered out of the Shuttle and into the hangar of the Galileo was that it was a tiny ship. After spending the past few days on the USS Venture, where she had gotten used to the comparatively cavernous corridors and enormous rooms, this was a bit...weird. It was definitely going to take some getting used to, that much was clear. She took another long look around the room and turned to grab her bag from the shuttle.

Marjorie had sat as far back as she could and tried not to make eye contact with the others on the shuttle. She had been going over meeting new people in her head all day. The last piece of advice she was given from a counselors was to say more than two words during a first impression. The nerves were eating her as she slowly followed the lieutenant's move and grabbed her own small case from under her seat.

"Ah, Lieutenant, Ensign," a voice called. It's owner, a vorta of all creatures, dressed in a Starfleet operations uniform, walked up to her, PADD in hand, a smile on his face. "Welcome to the Galileo, both of you. I am Lieutenant Amril, chief operations officer."

Victoria turned around, bag in hand and her eyes widened. She didn't know what she was expecting, exactly, but getting greeted by a Vorta was definitely not on the list; and he was the chief operations officer. She was right about one thing: this ship really was weird. Never mind, she thought. She could obsess over how weird this ship was later. Setting the bag on the ground she held out her hand and said "Lieutenant junior grade Victoria Crawley, psychologist."

"Oh, of course," Amril said as he recognized the woman's gesture. He extended his hand to her. Unfortunately, his PADD was in his right hand and so he extended his left hand. "Nice to meet you, Miss Crawley," he said, obliviously.

"Nice to meet you too, Lieutenant." She looked at him strangely, still a little confused about what a Vorta was doing on a starship, but she shrugged it off and turned to Ensign Horne. "Would you like some help, Ensign?" She started toward the other girl.

Marjorie had taken longer to exit the shuttle and was still a ways back from their meeting. While the ensign was somewhat surprised to see a Vorta, she was unsure how to express it. Realizing she had been asked a question, Marjorie tried to come up with three words that said 'no'. "No, thank you," Marjorie said, content with her response.

Not wanting to seem pushy, Victoria waved at the girl and went back over to where the lieutenant was standing and grabbed her bag off the ground. She was anxious to get going and see her quarters, not to mention the rest of the ship. "So, are we ready, then?"

"As soon as you both are," Amril replied. "I can have an operations officer bring your luggage to your assigned quarters."

"Please ask them not to shake this," Marjorie asked suddenly concerned with the contents. She wasn't sure how the shuttle ride itself had affected the case. Her anxiety was over the poorly wrapped fragile item that would probably be broken for the fourth time.

"Of course, Ensign," Amril said with a nod, gesturing to Petty Officer Delaney, who moved to retrieve the luggage. The operations chief glanced at Crawley with his violet eyes. "Lieutenant?"

Victoria looked up from her PADD, her gaze shifting from the Lieutenant to Marjorie. "What? Oh, yeah, I'm ready." She shouldered her bag and started for the corridor.

As Amril led them down the corridor, he handed them each a PADD. "I thought you might like a diagram of the ship; it shows the location of your quarters and other key areas. There is a list of activities included. Crewman Kilborne assigned your quarters, but if you need anything, you may let me know."

Victoria took the PADD from him and studied the screen. It always amazed her how complex these ships were, even the smaller ones like the Galileo.

Marjorie had tried to study the ship's schematics before she arrived, but those rarely correctly portrayed where the activity hubs were onboard. Knowing she needed to become more social with this assignment, she fought not to raise her hand as she spoke in a hushed voice. "I need something."

"Yes?" Amril asked, glancing at the ensign.

"I am interested in gathering areas aboard the ship," Marjorie told him. "Places to be when one is not working and does not wish to be in their quarters."

"Ah, I believe my list of activities aboard the ship will help you," Amril replied, "Most of these occur in the mess hall or in a holodeck, if I recall correctly." They reached a turbolift and he led them onto it. "Deck three." He waited for the turbolift to start towards its location and looked at them, "I will escort you to your quarters so that you can get settled."

"Thanks," Victoria said, mostly to herself. She was still absentmindedly studying the schematics the lieutenant had given them when she realized he had been talking to them. Something he said made her curious, and she had to ask; she might want to to make use of it at some point. "Where exactly is the holodeck?"

"Oh," Amril said, "it's on deck 2. There are only two on the Galileo."

"Got it," Victoria responded, already trying to locate them on the schematics so she could find them later.

Marjorie didn't say anything during the short turbolift ride. She watched the faces of her companions, but didn't know how to read a Vorta. Remembering he was her direct superior, the human was hoping to be able to study him more closely.

"Here we are," Amril announced brightly as the doors of the turbolift slid open. He led them onto the deck. Pausing outside, he turned to the two officers. "Is there anything I can do for you before I show you to your quarters?"

Victoria shook her head. "I don't think so. At least, not as far as I'm concerned." To tell the truth, she was really anxious to unpack and get settled so she could get some sleep.

Marjorie looked at the ship schematic, thought about what she'd already asked about and stated very clearly, "No, thank you."

"Excellent," Amril said with a nod. He hurried on to an intersection and gestured down one of the corridors. "Lieutenant Crawley, your quarters are the third on the left. Ensign Horne, yours are all the way, to the right, and two quarters down."

Victoria smiled at both the lieutenant and Ensign Horne. "Thanks, lieutenant. Bye, Ensign. Let me know if you need anything." With that, she walked down the hall to her new quarters.

Marjorie watched her go down the hall and told herself to keep that in mind. Turning to walk down her own hallway, the ensign wondered if she would be sharing the room with another officer. She was an assistant department head, but the ship was very small.

"Oh, Ensign Horne," Amril called, as the woman started to walk away, "I believe you and I will need to meet shortly. You have fourty-eight hours to settle in, why don't you come to my office the following morning?"

"What time is the most convent?" Marjorie asked knowing that she had a tendency to arrive well before or well after a vague time context like 'morning'.

"Oh-eight-hundred hours should do nicely," Amril said, "Start of alpha shift."

"I will be there," Marjorie answered with a curt nod and proceeded to her quarters hoping her things were there undamaged.
