Scheherezade Award

Named after the mythical heroine of the Arabian Nights, the Scheherezade awards the intricate story-crafting which is displayed within Obsidian Fleet. This goes beyond simple matters of spelling, grammar, and legibility; rather, it is for the obvious effort put into posts to make them enjoyable to read for all members of a platform and not just as enjoyment for the writers who created them - for telling a tale within a tale as they weave their own story within the greater plot of their simm.

This award is an extension of the Level 1 Library Excellence Ribbon: the Scheherezade is awarded for use of excellent language for artistic purposes and not just for the sake of making language more complex. It focuses more on the intent, but also on the successful writing of supreme quality posts. (Level 2 submission - sample post is required)

Lieutenant Oren Idris Ph.D.

I'm nominating both Maja and Anne for this award. These two consistently produce quality posts that are enjoyable to read. They have an ability that not every writer has when it comes to collaborating with other writers to form JPs. No matter who they write with, their characters stay true to their personalities, and they produce the kind of quality writing that is simultaneously compelling and very well written (beyond a simple Library Excellence criteria). The award guidelines for the Scheherezade Award states "(awarded to a writer) for telling a tale within a tale as they weave their own story within the greater plot of their simm." I can think of no better guideline that sums these two writers up.

While many of their posts could be deserving of this award for individual posts, the best example can be reflected in their JP:

The Difference Between Martyrdom And Suicide... [part one] - http://stgalileo.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/2896

...Is Counselling [part two]- http://stgalileo.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/2945

When reading these posts it is very hard to imagine that it was crafted by two writers. It reads as a solo post, and I can imagine what kind of level of collaboration they must have had to produce it. The dialogue is 'real' sounding, and I had no problem imagining this to be a 'real' counseling session. Very well done!
Lieutenant Commander Amynta Markos
06 Aug 2014 @ 4:04pm
I have seen some excellent writing from Markos this month. Not only is it always well written, but the writer has the strength of mind to keep true to Amynta's sparky and sharp character. And yet, she is always fully three dimensional with depth and texture rather than just scratchy for the sake of scratchy. We have seen more of her motivations during this mission, with her dislike of Cardassians stemming from the destruction of her colony, and so feeding into why she is how she is. Everything is written fully in character, unwaveringly Amynta, and with style and quality along the way. This makes her posts thoroughly enjoyable to read, but also unique in the tone she brings to a post. This goes further in how it makes Amynta thoroughly enjoyable to write with.
Lieutenant Teth Miir

All his posts are enjoyable to read and he is doing an excellent job at weaving a story around the character Tech that I look forward to reading any of his posts. Very well done and I'd like to nominate him for this award based on his posts with Mott and most recently Delainey.
Lieutenant Lilou Zaren

It's been an immense pleasure to read Peers/Zaren's subplot this month. From outstanding character development to gruesome surgical scenes, Nelle has shown a great amount of depth and detail in all of the characters involved. She has managed to bring them to life with excellent writing ability in order to make their story truly believable.

Okay, I think Mike is literally one of our best writers. He's put so much time and effort into Maenad that I've seen and watched her grow over the past few months I've been aboard and I think, really, that without him our sim would absolutely be in the dark. He's an excellent CSO, always willing to JP, and willing to take up stories and plots as they come along. There's not one post to demonstrate this so I've linked to several, and hope that they make my point for me. Some of them have me in it, but I'm just linking them to demonstrate Mike's ability, and there are many many more as well: http://www.stgalileo.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/682, http://www.stgalileo.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/732, http://www.stgalileo.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/749, http://www.stgalileo.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/727, http://www.stgalileo.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/748 (played donovan to the hilt, developed the Levels posts in their entirety), http://www.stgalileo.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/839, http://www.stgalileo.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/849, http://www.stgalileo.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/864, http://www.stgalileo.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/880, http://www.stgalileo.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/911, http://www.stgalileo.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/840, http://www.stgalileo.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/939, http://www.stgalileo.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/934, http://www.stgalileo.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/955, http://www.stgalileo.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/982, http://www.stgalileo.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/863, http://www.stgalileo.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/837 (excellent post, prob one of mike's best), http://www.stgalileo.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/710, http://www.stgalileo.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/662, http://www.stgalileo.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/651, http://www.stgalileo.com/index.php/sim/viewpost/656, and those are just the ones that stick out. Mike has also brought many people to the sim including Geoff and Matt M., and inspires all of us to write and plot (Me, Nelle, Matt. M) and is usually one of the first to offer JPs and get involved. I think Mike is definitely one that deserves this award, for both his quality of writing, level of posting (over 100 posts in 6 months) and enthusiasm for this sim and for Maenad.
