Mission: Episode 17 - Crystal of Life
Location: USS Galileo-A - Deck 2, Executive Officer's Office
Timeline: MD -178, 1000

[ON]

Allyndra made her way to the office just a bit ahead of time. She had an appointment with the Executive Officer which was not unusual. The rotation of Department Heads reports was an ongoing thing and pretty much after the departmental briefings. She figured as well as acting second officer that there would be other information given if it was available.

She check her reflection in a bit of shiny metal making sure her hair was in place and uniform looking tidy. She then leaned slightly to reach and press the call button at the appropriate time, a few seconds early.

Blake glanced at the time with an inward nod at seeing how prompt she was, sitting back and sliding the PADD on to the desk, taking the moment to stretch her back out. "Come in," she called out, giving a small smile when she saw Allyndra. "I appreciate you coming in ahead of your shift."

"Not at all Commander," Allyndra replied as she entered after the door opened and coming to attention as it slide closed. "I hope your shift has gone well."

"Oh fine," she assured with a slight wave of the hand before using it to motion to the chair opposite. "Things are starting to settle into more of a routine. The way I like it," she admitted as she pushed herself up to stand. "Do you like tea?"

Allyndra took the offered seat. She was a bit surprised but responded, "Yes of course it is one of the few pleasures that I can enjoy. I am not particularly picky over what kind."

"I'm not sure I could get through a day without it," Scarlet admitted with a slight chuckle, moving to get a pot brewing for them. "How is the routine settling for you?"

"Fine Commander, it is not the first time I have done double duty. Where would you like to start then, command or medical?" Allyndra asked.

"Medical, I think," Scarlet nodded as she retook her seat, setting the tea things down on the desk ready for when it had brewed. She turned her computer to more of an angle, opening it up. "We're not the largest crew ever seen. And we will need to continuously run this ship for six months, without shoreleave or a plan B, so it's imperative we make sure everyone remains healthy and fit, functioning at their peak."

"Indeed," Allyndra agreed. "After our departmental meeting one thing is that Dr. Wylde is going to start emergency training for any of those interested. The first few minutes of almost any injury are the most critical and with a small medical crew the more hand that have some training the better. Secondly the main medical department is going to run simulations based upon various scenarios including outbreak/quarantine situations. Lake is going to set up some scenarios based on psychic attack. Now..." Allyndra paused coming to a hard part.

"This is both medical and command but I received Tuula's resignation. She will be transferring off the ship once we reach the base."

"That is, indeed, troubling," Scarlet frowned as she sat back, tapping her finger against the desk. It was a shame to lose an experienced medic, especially one that had been part of the crew for a long time, but they would have to respect the decision. "Thank you for telling me personally. It's a small universe though...maybe we will see her again at some point," a small smile came back to her at that. "Your training plans sound good. I wouldn't mind brushing up on my emergency medical training actually, it's been a while since the last. Have you considered doing a simulation based on treating people from races that we have little or no previous medical knowledge of?"

"I will mark that down. I am putting Doctor Wylde in charge of teaching. Also as part of the counseling department, LuAnn Lovegood would like to conduct moonlight walks in the arboretum. She feels that those will help calm from the stresses of the duty. I think it was a good idea so she is setting those up as well. Sign ups for medical and scenarios will be going out as soon as they are approved by you as well."

Scarlet nodded even as she made a list of it all on her own computer so she could keep tabs on what she needed to keep on top of. "Don't get me wrong, I think we have collected together a good, strong crew. But this makes me feel even more confident to know we have all of this in progress," she nodded as she looked back to Allyndra with a focussed expression. "Is there anything else I should know on the medical side of things?"

"I think that should cover it though if anything comes up I will make sure to keep you informed." Allyndra replied.

Scarlet nodded, sitting back as she finished her notes off. "Then let's switch hats to command," she reached for her tea, letting out a soft breath. "Are you comfortable with your levels of work between your second officer and chief medical officer duties?"

"For the moment sir," Allyndra did not like using that term but came to accept it as part of the Fleet protocol. "So far there is little need but to keep an eye on the course, scans. I do have a small suggestion though if I may."

Scarlet motioned to her to indicate that she could speak her mind, resting back and crossing her legs as she got more comfortable. Suggestions showed engagement. "Go ahead."

"If I might suggest, I think perhaps I might alternate at times with Lieutenant Commander Wyatt. That way if there is a medical emergency and yet gamma is not covered we have another experienced bridge officer."

Blake thought on it for a few moments, her clasped hands resting on her knee. "If your concern is that there's not enough experienced officers to take the bridge during your shift in Sickbay, alternating your shift occasionally won't solve that problem fully...it will only help on the days you've swapped..." she phrased her reply as a question, wanting to be sure she'd grasped the crux of the problem.

"It would, but also I think it would help assist with Lieutenant Commander Wyatt's career as well. As head of security it is a more natural progression into a command position eventually." She smiled. "Not to get me wrong I enjoy my time on the bridge, it is a nice change of pace, but I do not see myself as moving fully into a command position."

"A doctor at heart?" Blake asked with a small smile at that, understanding it easily enough as she brought up the shift rota on her computer. "So I take it that you mean to swap some of your bridge shifts with Wyatt?"

"Yes," Allyndra replied but in reality she had enough with still having to deal with House Warraquim. Thankfully being way out here put that problem away as well. Oh, she could make decisions, she would never be a chief medical officer otherwise, but wanting to be in charge of a ship was not her path.

"So Commander," she continued. "Since the captain has split us into three teams with six hour shifts, I was thinking that when Team 3, that I head up has the extra six hour shift that the lieutenant commander could take that second one. It is only my thoughts."

"I'll have to look into it," Scarlet nodded slightly, already thinking it over though as she glanced back to the screen. "We'd have to consider the security balance on the shifts he'd swap from. And you'd be in Sickbay for your first shift of the team, so it could only be a few of your second shift's set, or you'd lose all your own bridge shifts too."

"Understood, just a suggestion as I said. I think that is all I have. How about you commander? Anything for me?" Allyndra asked.

Scarlet thought on it as she shook her head slowly, tapping a quick note into her computer to look into the shift pattern. "I know what it's like doing your role, balancing two different positions. You've shown that you're clearly able to carry that unique weight, but if you need anything, just let me know. We have a long trip ahead."

"I will commander. If that is all then best get back to making sure things are running smoothly in the sickbay." Allyndra replied seeing if she would be dismissed.

"Of course," Scarlet nodded to her to indicate that she could leave. "If there's anything you need, you know where I am," she added for good measure, finishing her notes before opening more up on her computer.

"Very good commander," Allyndra said and got up. She headed for the door but paused, "one last thing, You are due for your physical as well."

Scarlet's breath caught at that, her heart sinking a little. She summoned a small smile though, looking to her to show she'd received and understood. "I'll get myself to Sickbay soon," she assured, despite her reluctance to be looked over.

"Very good, then I bid you good day commander," Allyndra nodded and then left. She would not push the scan quite yet.
