Mission: Episode 15 - Emanation
Location: Earth
Timeline: MD 91 -- Crew Recall

ON:

Varro shut his screen down and sighed. His call had been a rough one. He'd never realized how much he'd wanted to be on the Galileo until he'd received the order to report to the Dragon Claw. His old friend Captain Spenser had called and Varro had agreed. They had also been looking for an Assistant Chief Security officer and Galan was the man he'd suggested for the job. He wondered if Galan would take it. As Assistant chief he'd be assigned to Varro's detail. The Dragon was off on a first contact mission and Varro was hoping Eelim would agree.

He looked at the time and hurriedly showered and dressed. He'd have to meet Eelim and Allyndra for lunch today. It had been a last get together before everyone gave their final acceptance to their assignments.

=/\= Across town =/\=

Eelim hit the send button. He'd been shocked when the call came in from Captain Spenser. The offer had been amazing but Eelim had had to weigh everything. In the end he picked what he thought was best.

Scrubbing his hand across his face he hurried to change and get ready for his lunch. This would not be easy. He had just accepted an assignment away from the woman that he loved and his best friend. Sighing he headed to the restaurant.

Though it was lunch time and not evening, Allyndra had decided to go to the meeting with Varo and Eelim dressed in her finest. Her original dress had been lost on board the old Galileo and had been a gift. Now though as Mother named of House Warraquim, she had gotten a new one and this dress had been made for the mother of a major house. The last one had been long but cut closer. This one had billowing folds and overlay and even a small train of Trellium silk. Any place off world this dress would have commanded a price only a few could even imagine and thus it was not surprising that she got stares and looks as she walked toward the restaurant looking like a moving multi-coloured rainbow as the whole thing shimmered and shone especially as it was the best of the best Trelliem silk. She had put her hair down and had spent time to enhance the natural electric blue streaks in it with matching colour crystals. She had even put small bits of crystal dust on her wings and then added makeup as well.

She reached the establishment and entered. The maitre'd all but fawned on her as she entered and she quickly just told him that she was there to meet with Ambassador Varro. He led her toward the back to a private area.

Varro and Eelim had arrived just a few minutes prior and were looking over the drink list. Varro had picked this place specifically because it had sweet juices that would be to Allyndra's tastes. He smiled as she came in and pulled out her chair as she sat. He'd noted that Eelim had looked kind of distant.

"Allyndra you look amazing." Varro said as he handed her the drink menu.

"Thank you," she took the seat. "And the two of you fit and handsome as always." She looked to Varro first. "And how is married life?" she asked.

Eelim did not seem to pleased in her estimation to be there but maybe it was because she had overdone things. Cardassians sometimes had funny feelings with certain displays.

Varro smiled, "Well. She has gone off on a bounty. I have finally received my shipping out orders too. Unfortunately we won't get to see one another before I leave."

Eelim looked over at Varro and then lowered his eyes in a guilty look.

Varro caught it though. "Eelim? You've been quiet, too quiet."

Eelim shrugged and when he raised his eyes it was to look at Allyndra. Their eyes met over the table and he knew that she could see that something was wrong.

"Indeed you have Consort named of Mother named of House Warraquim," Allyndra turned her attention to her lover. "I know this might not suit your sensibilities but a public meeting with a known ambassador should be something more than a uniform especially off ship. I would not normally do this either but as was pointed out by the council, I do represent at times my world and should look the part."

"I got my new assignment." Eelim blurted out, "At least I was offered the position as Assistant Chief Tactical and Security Officer as well as head of Ambassadorial guard." He let the silence stretch.

Varro stayed silent. His face remained impassive.

"Oh?" Allyndra tilted her head. The slight movement sent rainbow shimmers down the dress. "It is quite the promotion then this new ship or place for you. I take it you are not sure to accept or not?"

He looked at Allyndra, "They are holding the position until I give them the acceptance as a final. I am interested but what about us?

Varro gave his friend a sympathetic pat on the back.

"And thus the choice is between me and that," Allyndra nodded. It hurt the the hearts, the gods it seemed still played games with it. However, though there was that, the mind knew that Eelim had always felt that he deserved little and this was a chance for him to feel his worth. He was not sure of his mind but she was sure of hers and though hearts she knew what she had to do.

She leaned toward him and took off one of the thin layers of the Trellium silk and put it around his neck. Then she recited:

"He uʻi, he uʻi maoli no
Na hiʻona hoʻomāhie
Na wai e ʻole kou hoʻohiʻe
No ka uʻi maoli no

Aia i ka nuʻa, kahu ʻo Eelim
Ke kuʻu mea ia maila e kāua
Ahe uʻi a he nani me ka hiehie
Kou kohu maoli no"*

Without a further word she stood and walked away. She would not let him see the tears that threatened in her eyes.

"Now I just wish I knew who this diplomat i'm guarding is."

Varro scratched his chin. "What ship were you on again?"

Eelim shrugged, "Dragon Claw."

Varro's lip twitched, "Oh I know the diplomat. He's a mean one. He's impossible to work with and quite a diva."

Eelim groaned. "Oh? Who is he."

Varro smiled a Cheshire smile. "It's me."

Eelim looked up startled for a second and then threw his head back and laughed. Varro joined in.

Shaking his head Eelim looked at his friend. "When do we leave?"

Varro stared out into the blue sky as they exited the restaurant. His heart bled for his friend. He knew that giving up Allyndra was the hardest thing Eelim had done I a long time. He'd finally found a woman he loved and now he was leaving. Part of Varro hated himself for suggesting Eelim but a part of him needed his best friend at his side. This was going to be a long journey but neither knew how long it was going to be.
