Portsmouth Part II

Mission: Episode 15 - Emanation
Location: NX-11 Portsmouth
Timeline: November 13th, 2155

Previously... “We’re being pulled towards a high concentration of Neutrinos, theta-band and… This is not good, Chronotron particles It’s a wormhole through time” - “Shields are down, life support is running on backups and all other systems are inoperable.”, - “We're right where we left but according to the star chart, we’ve been thrown back… Calculating” Tiley said. “Over two hundred years into the past" - “Sir I’m picking up a ship 2000km of our bow, Its an NX class starship, USS… Excuse me NX-11 Portsmouth, it's heavily damaged, with no life signs aboard and is currently adrift.”

NX-11 Portsmouth – Hanger Bay

Stepping out of the runabout Luke looked around “I've only ever seen these ships in museums and books. It's remarkable how we ever achieved a foothold in the Galaxy" He said pausing his gaze on Abbey who was above him tapping away at the console.

"It looks like life support is available on 5 decks, engineering the bridge are both accessible." Abbey looked down to the Cadets and her father. "How long until the ship is ready to leave again?" She asked Skopak the engineering fourth-year cadet who was out of all of them the closest to graduating.

"I'll need a few hours to run diagnostics, but it doesn't look promising. The wormhole has fried several key components Life support, Warp Drive, and weapons. Shields and Communications are still operable. With using these primitive materials I should be able to have her running in no more than 48 hours"

Luke sighed, "I hoped not to be here much longer than a few hours, very well. Break down into pairs, Myself and Abbey will head to the bridge, Skopak and Johnathon work on repairs Tiley and Do'Val find engineering and see if we can return some power to the ship Take phasers with you" Whilst he spoke Luke had unlocked the weapons locker in the runabout and took one for himself and Abbey "Set them to stun and I want check-ins every 15 minutes"

There was a chorus of responses and soon Luke and Abbey found themselves walking to the bridge, climbing over debris as they did. "It's so small, even by our standards," Abbey said pushing a fallen light fixture out of her way. "By the looks of it, the ship hasn't been long abandoned." She added.

Nodding Luke agreed. "They weren't really built for deep space assignments like we are used to. Warp 5 engines, Polarized Hull Plating and just 3 phase cannons and one torpedo launcher. At the time it was cutting edge but now, even our runabout could destroy it."

"it's remarkable that we even survived the first few years of space travel." Abbey interjected, "In my universe, these were warships and packed a much larger punch." They made it to the door which had the words 'BRIDGE' engraved on it but it didn't open. "Must be broken?"

Luke shook his head "No If I remember rightly" He pushed a button on the wall next to the door opening them in response. "They didn't have automatic doors" He finished stepping onto the bridge which was remarkably in a good state.

Abbey moved towards the tactical systems brushing dust and debris from the console. "These systems are rudimentary but I get the basic Idea. If I'm reading this right we have two phaser cannons and no torpedos, hull plating is at 10%."

Luke had walked over to the operations console and was too reading the report. "Life support is minimal, warp engines are offline but there appears to be enough power. They must have suffered more casualties than able to repair the ship. It also looks like they had set the ship to self-destruct but the system has failed as well as its backups." He stepped away tapping his comm badge. =^=Cadet Tiley and Do'val report=^=

=^= Engineering is in a bad shape, Warp drives are definitely non-reparable but I believe I can restore power and life support to all decks. I also believe I can restore some armor and correct the self-destruct error for when we leave=^=

=^=Very well, do your best but leave external lights off, we don't want anyone to know we're here. Wyatt out=^= Luke turned to Abbey "Work on clearing the bridge and scan for any nearby ships, I don't want to be caught off guard."

"Already ahead of you" She smiled as she spoke before getting to work, only pausing as she watched Luke disappear into the captain's quarters. She could sense he was somehow enjoying the situation, and who wouldn't they were walking aboard one of the nine NX class ships that were commissioned in the early years of Earths space history.

LATER THAT DAY

After a few hours later Luke emerged from the captain's ready room, Abbey had done a touch-up job clearing the bridge and though there was still signs of battle they couldn’t have done a better job without going to spacedock. “How's it going?” He asked.

Abbey was standing over the tactical display when Luke spoke catching her attention. “All but one phase cannon is online and operating at 80% efficiency, we have about five torpedoes left and Hull Plating as barbaric it is at 75% but I think I can get it to at least 80 in a day or two.”

The turbolift door opened presenting both Tiley and Do’Val, “Commander” They both said at the same time and standing at an awkward attention. Luke chuckled. “Stand at ease cadets were not at the Academy. How is it going?” He asked.

“We’ve done all we can in engineering and re-routed all controls to here,” he said pointing at one of the consoles. “We’ve managed to get partial engines, warp drive is out of the question, I know repairs on the shuttle are going faster than expected and we believe we should be out of here tomorrow.”
