Duval blinked as he felt his attention span go to crap in seconds as he felt himself almost fly through the air. "Uhh.." he groaned softly as two people carried him on a stretcher.

"Where do you want him Ensign?"

Miraj looked over at Duval's grey features and pained expression. SHe pointed him at a space a few feet behind the pilot's chair. The usual crew chairs had been pulled out. "You can attach him to those hard points." she told the medical crew, and then hovered behind them while they did so, and double checked the bindings to be sure he wouldn't be rolling loose.

The medical crew secured Duval as indicated. "Uhh.." Duval shifted his attention around the room, what little of it he still had as he weakly coughed, some blood splattered the front of his uniform as his helmet was off. "Computer... sing me something.."

"Please state request?"

"I dunno..." Duval whimpered softly. "something.. I dunno.."

"Please restate request.."

Duval breathed out and then back in. "Useless.." before he coughed up some more blood. "Nevermind.... I guess... I'll lie here and..... keep silent." he muttered to himself.

More of the walking wounded took seats and the medic who had loaded Duval turned to Miraj. "Can you call this in. Our comms aren't reaching home. Its severe radiation exposure."

Miraj nodded, and closed the doors after the medics. =^="Derani to Galileo, I'm inbound with Duval. He's got radiation poisoning."=^= She glanced at him. He looked like he was going to puke any minute.

The ionization had cleared enough for communications to get through and Allyndra took the call.

=^=Acknowledged. Radiation poisoning...how severe?=^=

=^="Tuula said acute,"=^= Miraj responded. =^="She said he needed isolation."=^=

=^=Acknowledged. I will send someone down with a proper isolation hover bed to the Waverider dock=^=

Vincenzo rose up into the snow. Miraj had done the run a couple of times now and she had a feel for how the Waverider handled and how the hideous weather was affecting him. This time she barely needed conscious attention to fly, and she found herself humming as the small vessel started the long turn back to Galileo, a slow tune that she knew well.

Duval blinked open his eyes which was becoming more and more bloodshot with each passing moment. "Mmm..." he shifted his position, ever so slightly as he listened to Miraj's singing.

She kept humming, unaware she was doing it, or that anyone was listening, and when she reached the end of the first verse, she was so into the flying, the feel of the storm drumming on her hull, and pawing at her lines, she didn't even notice she was singing the chorus. " ♪ Yo. Ho. all Hands. Hoist the colours high. ♪" It was an old song. A threnody for the golden age of piracy on earth. "♪ Heave. Ho. Theives and beggars. Never shall we die. ♪"

Duval mumbled. "When I looked into the face of the god of death... I say... "Not today.."

On board things were still busy but first thing that needed to be done was to clear biobed one. It was their most sophisticated bed and acute radiation dose was going to be a hard one. Allyndra had no idea just how strong a dose it was.

=^=Allyndra to Ensign Quershi, report to waverider docking bay. We have another emergency coming in. Report is acute radiation poisoning but I need a preliminary assessment make sure you have an isolation hover bed on hand.=^=

Waverider docking area

A few moments later Qureshi bounded into the docking bay as the waverider finished docking. Snapping the final protective glove to his hands the young physician stepped forward as the medic began moving Duval's stretcher into the bay. Thankful that bedside manner didn't matter in an emergency situation, Qureshi seemed much more relaxed in this atmosphere than he did doing checkups in Sickbay. He studied the man's eyes, rather than read the tricorder, as he scanned the medical scanner over his body. "My name is Doctor Qureshi. Can you tell me your name, Chief?"

Duval shifted his attention before he gently coughed and spat up some blood. "An...Anthony.... Duval.." he rasped softly. "Whats ... going on?"
he inquired softly, as he blinked his eyes while trying to figure out where he was.

"Alert and responsive. That's a good sign." Qureshi would have attempted a smile to reassure him, but was busy checking the discoloured blotches on Duval's neck. "But," he said quickly when he'd finished, "we'll take good care of you." He reached into his medkit and grabbed some gauze to clean Duval's chin of blood. "I'm going to give you some medication to help control the bleeding inside. That's why you keep coughing it up. Can you lie still for me, and tell me how long after the exposure to radiation that you started coughing up blood?" Qureshi discreetly consulted the tricorder to confirm what his examination had revealed then quickly prepared a hypospray.

Duval blinked his eyes slowly. "Abou.... About fifteen minutes or so..." he managed softly. "It started... about five minutes or so... after we shut down... the Reactor... I was... closest." he coughed up some more blood. "It hurts.."

Sickbay

Allyndra got gowned up. She hated that as something covering wings and face and hair felt confining and it was uncomfortable as well. However, there was not much to be done as isolation was going to be the first thing and keeping a compromised immune system from dealing with an infection was paramount. She got the forcefield in place and then had the area sterilized. The next was to block entrance through the force field except for the incoming patient and certain authorized medical personnel and even then they would need to be properly gowned and masked. The field was set and matched like when using the transporter to make sure that contamination was not there. There definitely would be a tingle every time someone stepped through. She turned and waited for the arrival of the Engineer and get an assessment of the situation. Radiation exposure had an acute phase but it was the longer term that also worried her. Even now, things could carry for a lifetime.

A bit of thought entered her head and she sort of sang it to herself as she waited the arrival of the injured Engineer.

Qureshi and Duval materialized in sickbay, using the emergency transporter protocol. As he brought the isolation biobed that Duval was stored in he looked to Allyndra. "Acute radiation syndrome confirmed. White blood cell count is good but dropping. Purpura has formed around the neck and chest. He is hemorrhaging into the lungs. So far he's received 10 milligrams of Lectrazine and 5 milligrams of Hyronalin to reduce the effects of the radiation poisoning. We're looking at about three grays of radiation here." Qureshi would have issued more, but he wanted Allyndra's assessment before he gave any more.

"Very good, a good first step. Let's get him settled in. The field is restricted to medical personnel only. Fluids we need to get on board. Let's get some anti-emetics and diarrheal with 5-HT blockers on board. Electrolyte replacement started and we will need to keep a watch on blood work. Check red cell and lymphocyte especially. Hopefully antibiotics will not be needed if we have caught things fast enough." Allyndra replied running through some of things needed.

She turned her attention to the Engineer. "So tell me what is your name, your rank, do you know where you are?"

Duval slowly blinked his eyes as he focused his efforts onto the unusual looking woman before him. "I'm Anthony Duval... Warrant.... officer... Second Cl-Class..." he paused as a sigh escaped him. "I think..... I'm in sickbay...." but he sounded very unsure.

Allyndra nodded. The engineer was cognitive but functioning at least. "Alright Anthony, we are going to get some fluids started and we want you to rest. Is there anything you might like, other than food or intoxicants? You are going to be here awhile."

"Uhh.... Something to help me sleep.." Duval responded softly. "This.... is going to... suck.." he paused. "I'll make.... further requests.... of your staff.... later."

♪ ♪ ♪ Hear its spulchral tones...... ♪ ♪ ♪

Allyndra was not so sure of that, but she could put something on board to make it more restful. The first was to get fluids on and then they could start to treatment. The first twenty four hours would be the initial worse once past that then some further DNA damage repair. The long term was going to be the worse really. Little they could do but hope treatment would keep any longer term effects at bay. She could not help but think a little ditty.
