Mission: Episode 11 - Divinum Mundi
Location: Arus 4 / USS Galileo - Deck Six - Crew Quarters
Timeline: MD:01 03:00

[ON]

"Patrol 1-2 Echo to Overwatch. Come in Overwatch over."

=^=Overwatch copy, 1-2 Echo. Confirm status.=^=

"P 1-2 Echo, status green. Zero, say again Zero contact of any life forms on board mining vessel. Negative contacts. Request immediate deep scan to Grids 1-5-7, 1-5-3, and 1-5-9, Sections 5-12. Negative contacts on all channels otherwise."

=^=Confirm 1-2 Echo, will pass request along over.=^=

It had been three hours since Patrol 1-2 Echo had beamed onto the planet. It had been three days since Federation deep space probes caught sight of the Romulan mining vessels crashing in atmosphere of planet Arus 4, a cold, ice covered hell hole. It had been three months since the destruction of Romulus.

Hoping to be one of the lost Romulus craft, the Narada, last seen near the location of the black hole that saved the galaxy, the Federation dispatched a patrol vessel, USS Eagle Eye, to the planet. Once the search and rescue team landed, however, scans of the bridge computer identified the ship as the Maximus, another mining vessel that had reportedly wandered into an asteroid field on its way to the Neutral Zone.

The Marines fanned out in an attempt to cover more ground. "P 1-2 Echo to Overwatch, we are proceeding aft to the engineering section....damn this is a big sucker. We are coming to a door now. Wilson, hit the overide."

"Aye sir." Came the response.

After the door opened, the Marines made their way further into the squid shaped mining vessel. "1-2 Echo to Overwatch, we've made it into the remains of what appears to be some form of hangar. We've got scout ships parked everywhere. There's also crates scattered here and there. Tricorder's picking up jack. What's the status of that scan?"

=^=Overwatch to 1-2 Echo, scan initiating now. Please stand by=^=.

In the time since the supernova, Romulan extremists took to different methods to attack the Federation. This rogue terrorist cell, which wasn't affiliated with the Romulan Government, would go to extreme measures such as bombings, piracy, and even placing cells into groups of refugees on the hope that they can sneak aboard a waiting Federation vessel, to do damage on the inside.....

=^=Overwatch to 1-2 Echo, be advised: deep scan reporting possible life signs near your location. Marking it for you now.=^=

"Confirmed Overwatch, checking now. Marines, eyes on!" The Marines made their way to the location of the life signs, rifles at the ready. They approached a rubble covered location. "Federation Marines, we are here to help!"

No response came....

"Welsh, check the rubble, see if anyone's under."

"Yes sir."

The Marines stood guard as one of them pulled away some of the rubble. After a few minutes, he responded. "Sir, I've got a live one. Sir, hang in there. We are here to help."

"Patrol 1-2 Echo to Overwatch, we have a live one down here. Request immediate medical teams to our location."

=^=1-2 Echo, confirmed, medical teams being dispatched now=^=

"Wait, stand by, Welsh has something. What is he saying Corporal?"

"I......I don't know sir, he said something in Romulan, then passed out. We need medical here now. I don't think I can heal all of......wait.....stand by."

The Marine dug deeper next to the Romulan.

"Sarge, I found something. It.....it looks like............."

The sentence was never finished. In that moment, a blinding flash appeared in the room. The rubble next to the Romulan disintegrated and the Marines, who felt nothing due to their proximity, were vaporized in a massive explosion. The fireball reached out, covering the distance of the hangar in seconds before pushing into the corridors. From the Eagle Eye in orbit, the mining vessel's aft section was enveloped in a massive explosion that stretched for miles into the sky. Debris was scattered around, and the surviving parts of the ship shuffled and resettled.

=^=Overwatch to Patrol 1-2 Echo. Come in 1-2 Echo, we are registering a massive explosion in your location............Patrol 1-2 Echo this is Overwatch, please respond..........1-2 Echo, please respond..........=^=

USS Galileo, 0300 hours.

Greg jerked awake in his bunk, covered in sweat and breathing hard. He'd had nightmares before, most recently being the events of the Ohio which haunted him almost every night, but this was different. A mission he had never been privy to, on a ship he had never served on. He had read about the incident, did as much research as he could regarding it. But he never really considered it a big deal....at least, not until his nightmares about the Ohio began to get worse.

He sat up in his bed and looked around the dark room. After a few minutes of catching his breath, he said the only thing he thought of at that moment: ".........what the hell?"

The post has a very authentic feel to it, and it's well-written. Very nicely done, Randy!
