Gyce tapped the desk in reverie. Jynn's outcome wasn't as great as she had worked for, but then again, Jynn did not exactly make the greatest plea of mercy.

Could I have done any better? she thought to herself while she waited for Allyndra and Tuula to arrive for Tuula's sentencing - or lack there of.

Gyce went back through Jynn's case obsessively on her personal computer. She even bit her nails in annoyance for not finding any sort of loophole to appeal. A Section 8 appeal of any sort would drum him out in a heartbeat, even though that would remove his criminal file.

No government-funded pilot program would hire him. He would do no better than a crop duster, assuming he got his own shuttle.

"Kosst!" Gyce exclaimed at her screen, at the same moment as the door to the security office opened.

Allyndra had gotten the summons to show up at the Security Office. She knew exactly what it was about as soon as she saw Tuula's name on the summons . She headed to the office wondering what the final outcome would be. She felt like the old Lady Justice with her scales. One one hand she knew the effects on the other the curiosity and basic nature of sentient beings.

She noticed she had arrived before either of the other two. "Good day Lieutenant Benice. I take it we are here to hear the final pronouncement of then investigation."

Allyndra normally would not use titles but this was formal and formality was needed.

"I was asked to carry out Captain Holliday's judgement, yes." Gyce stood and pointed to the empty chair in front of her deck. "Please have a seat Commander. Hopefully Lieutenant Voutilainen will be in soon."

With that, Tuula had finally arrived. "Good morning, Allynda," she called out as she pushed her chair beside her Chief. "Lieutenant Benice," she added with a nod, in a decidedly unenthusiastic tone.

"You were called in Lieutenant, because Captain Holliday has passed judgement upon you," Gyce began and gave an apologetic nod to Allyndra. "As the commander here is your direct boss, she as well deserves to know the results."

Gyce pulled up a new window on her computer and began to read off the screen. "Lieutenant Junior Grade Jynn has been found guilty by means of Diminished Capacity, for breaking his Oath of Deltan Celibacy. His rank has been stripped and will be restored to that of Ensign - should he be successfully rehabilitated in a facility of his choosing. Unless the Deltan Government disapproves of said judgement."

The Bajoran did not look pleased when she looked upon Tuula. "This is public record. A disciplinary mark on his record that even a Starfleet cadet has access to if they know what to look for. A mark that reads to his people at least - as a sexual predator... Had you two stopped at the first encounter, it might of been swept under the rug but with the findings of Commander Stace and myself, we found both of you unapologetic about your actions for various reasons. So I ask now, knowing that your lover has suffered the losses, trust, and respect he has to his people... Was it worth it?"

Allyndra remained quiet. At least he was still here, it could have been worse.

"You don't understand," protested Tuula angrily, "he's not a sexual predator. He's a good person. And he is a social being; to publicly shame and embarrass someone like Jynn like this, and isolate him from his people, might as well be a death sentence! I... You... They..."

It was at that point that Tuula broke down in tears. "It's not fair. All he is guilty of is love."

"The unfair part is Captain Holliday signing off on your misdemeanor charge of Sexual Misconduct for your public file with no punishment," Gyce spoke quietly with a contained anger in her eyes. "A quiet probation for you, I can only guess, since he is still teetering on chucking you off his ship with any more signs of unacceptable behavior... Be as it may, your lover is likely to be crucified for his actions by his own people while you get to sit on your hands and look pretty."

Gyce sighed and nodded dutifully to Allyndra as she turned it over to Tuula's department head. "Lieutenant Voutilainen's actions before Jynn have been insubordinate and disrespectful while under pressure. It is Captain Holliday's desire to eventually chuck her out if she does not clean her act up - If you wish to impose a department-level restriction, that is of course your right Commander. Be as it may, you also have a right to know of the severity of your subordinate's crime."

Allyndra nodded. "Understood," she replied coolly. This was one thing she hated about all these strictures that were placed. She would talk to Tuula further, privately and not quite so confrontationaly. Her mind was already formulating a new argument for Jynn. Something along the medical lines of letting hormones pent up leading to loss of control, a sort of temporary lapse of judgement due to overwhelming physical complications. That would take a lot more research into Deltan physiology though. However she did know enough of the effects on non-Deltans or at least those that had been pairings. She could not help but wonder how her own bite with a Deltan subject would go. Either it would be a supernova or the two just might cancel each other. After this incident the chances of experimenting to find out with official sanction from the Captain would be nil to non-existent.

She looked toward Tuula and raised an eyebrow, "I trust you realize you are fortunate and the Captain is giving a big second chance. As part of that trust, you see the path laid out that as indicated you need to exercise the proper professional duty and care."

Tuula couldn't believe what she was hearing. To be accused of sexual misconduct, insubordination, and worst of all unprofessionalism had her steaming mad. Part of her wanted to tear a strip off Gyce and roll out in a fit of rage. Ever since coming aboard this ship she had been misunderstood by what felt like just about everyone outside her department. She opened her mouth to defend herself, but before any words came out, she closed it again. She had worked so hard and so long, and had overcome so much difficulty to get herself to this point.

Realizing there was no longer any point in fighting it, she sighed in frustration. "Am I dismissed yet?" asked Tuula in a droll voice.

"You may go," Gyce nodded in agreement and gave Allyndra a sympathetic stare. "I am sorry if this meeting took time in your department's productivity, Commander."

"The productivity of the department is dependent of the welfare of the people in it and their talents and in turn affects the welfare of the entire ship. You know I will accept the report, though my own interview I think it is only natural tendencies. We are done with that but I am grateful that a talent like Doctor Voutilainen will be remaining with us."

"Thank you, Allyndra," replied Tuula, looking up at her chief, her eyes almost begging her for a shoulder to cry on. "Come on, lets get back to work."

"Indeed," Allyndra replied coolly. She stood and nodded to Gyce. "Lieutenant." It was a simple this is done and over for now. If anyone who knew her well, the use of a rank was rare indeed.

"Commander," Gyce nodded just as respectfully.

Maybe this dressing down got through to Tuula, Gyce hopped. Despite the no-nonsense demeanor she portrayed the bulk of the time, all people of law enforcement only want for offenders to be better than they are. And Gyce truly wanted Tuula to reach that same goal.
