Inside the childcare center, Raven was watching the children play when out of the corner of her eye she saw two Starfleet officers enter. They didn't look like parents, so Raven kept one of the internal sensors on them. Whispering to each other, she heard one of them mouth the word "mercy" to the other.

At that point, she decided to see what they were up to. "Excuse me," she said, walking over to meet them, "I'm--"

"Raven, we know," replied one of them as he handed her a PADD. "You're taking care of the Mercy children, are you not?"

From across the room, anyone who was watching would have seen a short conversation between Raven and the two Starfleet Officers. At one point, a moment of shock appeared on her face, and then an expression of pure joy. She gave the two officers a big hug and then excitedly bounded over towards the children.

"Revan, Delon, Laura, you have an incoming subspace transmission," said Raven, in an excited tone.

"But we're playing a game now," Delon countered, dismissing their caregiver with a wave of his hand. "Come on Laura, it's your turn now.."

"You can continue your game later," replied Raven. "This is important."

Revan looked at her, arching an eyebrow. Even after all this time, he was still annoyed that he couldn't read her like another person. But, perceptive as he was, he had learned to read into her expression. "Delon," he warned, "I think it really is important... we should go with her." He pulled his siblings up with him and nodded to Raven. "Please show us Miss Raven," he answered, clearly the wiser of the three of them.

"Okay, we can take it in the office," replied Raven, taking them by the hands and leading them into an office. With the press of a button, she activated the screen.

On the screen, a very injured man appeared. His face was swollen and discoloured and he was clearly in a sickbay bed. His hair was in disarray but no longer covered in blood as someone had taken the time to wash him up a little to make him more presentable. The man's dull eyes lit up as soon as he seemed to hear his children taking beyond the line of sight of the receiving monitor.

"Dr. Mercy," said Raven, with a polite nod, as she stepped back and allowed the children to crowd around the monitor.

Tears sprang into the counsellor's eyes as he beheld his children. "We are coming soon," he whispered, joy lacing into his voice as he saw them. "I have missed you so much."

"Dad?" Delon leaned forward, tears forming in his eyes. He furiously tried to blink them away, Romulans didn't cry! "Dad what happened to you?" He looked sideways, seeing Revan stare at the screen in silent shock and he reached out to cover Laura's eyes. "Miss Raven please take Laura...she shouldn't see him like this, please."

Naois watched his son react and was filled with pride, the boy was being true to his heritage, and he was trying to protect his younger sister. "I...had an accident," he lied, though it wasn't really a lie. "Miss Raven...I don't know when we'll arrive...but...we owe you..." He was so doped up he wasn't even speaking like his normal self. "We owe you so much... me and Eva..."

"Don't mention it," replied Raven. "You have wonderful children, and they helped me as well, perhaps more than they know."

"You'll have to tell me when we return to dock," Naois told her, "I don't have much time, the doctors want me to rest... Raven, do you think you can take care of them a little longer? Maybe, help Eva out a little? I don't think I'll be allowed to do much." He lifted his bandaged right arm, grimacing as it took a lot of effort. "I am needing a replacement...and I'll need time to recover."

"Of course." Raven looked down at the children, including Laura, who she had been holding close to her side. "All right, children, say goodbye to your father. He needs to rest, but you'll be able to see him in person soon."

"We'll be together again soon," Naois promised, "all of us."

"Be well dad," Revan whispered, holding a trembling hand to the screen. Delon was still fighting tears as he followed his brother's example.

When the screen went blank, Revan turned to Raven, tears about to fall down his cheeks. "Is he going to be alright?" the boy whispered, "please Miss Raven....is he going to be alright?"

Raven leaned down and gave Revan a big hug. "He's alive, and he has access to some of the best medical care and emotional support in the galaxy: The crew of the USS Galileo."
