Mission: Episode 09 - Empires
Location: USS Galileo, Sickbay
Timeline: MD04; 2010 Hours

ON:

After having dismissed Jynn back to the confines of his quarters from their meeting, Stace collated the data she had garnered and then prepared an action plan for the progression of her investigation. Every stone needed to be upturned and every avenue explored. Neither herself nor Captain Holliday would want an external authority coming in to their ship and exposing the vulnerability of their crew, and being out of communication of Starfleet made this a little easier for all involved.

But after Jynn had stated that Tuula had confided in one of the medical staff of the breach of his oath, Stace had to inquire into whom and how much. She decided to go to the head of the department to get the initial lay of the land.

"Commander Warraquim, can I have a private word in your office?" she asked out of earshot from any of the other medical staff.

It was unusual, no very unusual for any of the Command staff to be here in the sickbay. One usually had to almost drag thing kicking and screaming into the place. The last time there was any, well it was a messy thing and Allyndra still was not happy with the outcome. She was very wary then when the Commander appeared but made a polite nod and gestured toward the office. "Of course Commander," she replied. "Please come on in."

She followed the senior office and let the door shut and told the computer to lock it, then moved to her chair offering Norvi the other chair. She schooled her face into her best counselor neutral and asked, "What brings you to my office Commander?"

"Lieutenant Jynn, Commander," Stace replied with an even, tempered tone. She took the seat and then crossed her legs as she tilted to one side of the chair. She casually brushed down her uniform and then interlaced her fingers in her lap. In truth, this was just a preliminary field of investigation. Stace didn't want the Deltan transgression to fall through the gossip cracks of the ship until she knew exactly what she was dealing with, but at first she had to ascertain who already knew. She sighed and then continued.

"Until we establish contact with Starfleet again, I am conducting an investigation into the lieutenant's confession of breaking his oath of celibacy with one of your own. Lieutenant Tuula Voutilainen. If we were anywhere else, I doubt that we would be having this conversation as it would be referred to a court martial authority beyond my own and the captain's. But until then..." She allowed it to linger before continuing. "Lieutenant Jynn has also indicated that Voutilainen has confided in another crewman of this department and I need to discover who that is and what they know." She paused and then asked, "Are you aware of such a transgression, Commander?"

"Yes." The statement was just that, as matter of fact as possible and Allyndra did not give any further information. She did not like to play games but then there were things that were said as doctor patient.

Stace waited for more information from the doctor but it didn't come. She silently studied her face with searching eyes and then as she squinted she replied, "This is above your duty of care, Doctor. This is a breach of procedure that will extend far beyond any of our authorities. Jynn's already admitted to breaking his oath so the confines of anonymity and confidence no longer apply. If it's not me asking the questions to Tuula then it'll be some investigative stranger dragging her through a trial. As ship's XO you know that I can sanction the release of both her's and Jynn's medical files. As well as your logs. Tuula has to be protected both emotionally and for the sake of her career."

Allyndra only sat back and replied, "You only asked if someone in the medical department was aware. I answered that. What details did you require. Myself, Doctor Mott and Nurse Veri were present when Tuula admitted to having.....relations with Jyn. She was admonished about the dangers and treated according to standard procedure. As far as I am aware the episode has not been repeated and from reports she seems to be functioning fine. I did not inquire the reason for why other then I presume to explore."

"A breach of the Deltan oath is a serious offence, Commander. The captain has ordered me to investigate what has happened and the fall-out from the transgression. I am merely doing so. Any additional help you could give me will assist in both the lieutenants' cases."

"I will defer to you on that. I do know the psychological results though as Tuula should have known. Fortunately the encounter was brief enough that I think that she will be fine. As for Jynn, we spoke briefly while I attended an injury he sustained. He seems quite contrite about his lapse in judgement. I have asked both to seek counseling. In summary, Tuula should be fine and realizes the danger that was involved and Jynn also seems to realize he made a titanic breech of conduct. That being said, it did happen and what the legal consequences are I leave to you."

"Unfortunately," Stace replied evenly, as she looked down to the PADD she was holding and tapped in a few commands, "that is beyond my own powers of command, Doctor. This investigation is for the captain only. What then proceeds up the chain of command is out of all of our hands and will most likely end up with a court martial for Lieutenant Jynn." Stace paused and considered the woman's words. "I want you to prepare Lieutenant Voutilainen for the prospect of testifying at such a trial. Her version of events will most likely be the linchpin what is to come and it won't be easy for her to go through."

"I understand Commander." Allyndra did but hope that it would not come to that. She wished she could protect them all. She knew that there would be consequences but then without exploring there never would be anything new to be discovered, enjoyed, learned. "If one was afraid to try ones wings for fear of falling, then one would never know the joy of wind and sky. We fall, all of us at one time or another but sometimes the memory and joy that we tried is worth the fall."

"That's all well and good," Stace replied with a strained smile, not wanting to discount Allyndra's poetic expression, "but when you willingly fly into a military, no-fly zone, then you have to suffer the consequences." She paused and then inhaled. "I'm sure that Tuula will emerge from this unscathed. But procedures are put in place for a reason. Deltan/non-Deltan relationships are forbidden. Regardless of the outcome to any one person. Jynn will have to suffer the consequences of breaking the oath he took. That's part and parcel of being a Deltan in Starfleet.

Allyndra made a polite nod of the head. "I understand Commander. I had my knuckles and knees rapped more than once by the very same Guild Mother that told me what I told you."

Stace stood and made her way to the office door, allowing the doctor to release the lock before they opened. "I'll be in touch with you should I need anything further, Doctor. Thanks for your help."

It was just a terse as Allyndra had been. Well the Commander had her job, Allyndra had hers and they were still dancing around each other. She should make an effort to reach out and mend that but now was not the time.
