Personality & Traits

General Overview Stace is a likeable and competent young woman. Talkative, but respectful, she commands a friendly ease with strangers. Not one to 'lose her cool' unless pushed to the brink, Stace does, however, display a serious, natural authority and is not a woman to be challenged.

When relaxed, Stace is both witty and approachable. Passionate about music and literature, she prefers her own company but can easily be persuaded to join the crew down in the mess hall for a sociable time. Never really the 'life of the party', Stace would much prefer to laugh than to be laughed at as the entertainment.

When thinking, Stace has a tendency to place and/or tap her first and middle fingers on her mouth. This could be seen as a nervous disposition, however, upon studying her face when this happens, it is clear to see that this is a result of her concentration. She believes that she picked his up from her second host, Hanor.
Strengths A keen eye for puzzles, Stace enjoys her work as a scientist. She is analytical, brave but sometimes a maverick. She feels, with her wealth of experience, that one must sometimes think outside of the box and try the untested and ill-advised to get results. Never to put anyone's life in jeopardy, Stace will bend the rules if her conviction is strong enough.

Stace is a friendly soul and rather jovial, but knows when to keep relationships professional and when not to. She would help anyone out in a crunch and would forego her own comforts to see someone else benefit.
Weaknesses Sometimes a solitary figure despite her talkative ways, Stace can be reclusively shy. She considers personal relationships to be a distraction which she knows is a falsehood, but stands by her career-driven ambition all the same.

She can sometimes be cold and a little too distracted when it comes to seeking the fun out of life and work. Completely uninterested in romantic relationships, it may transpire that Stace ends up alone in her ailing years.
Ambitions To serve the Federation and explore the galaxy with the tools and technology available to her.
Hobbies & Interests Painting
Creative Writing
Puzzle Solving
Vernacular Friendly, and sometimes informal, Stace has a carefree manner that engenders her to most audiences. Never an orator, she can command a room but seldom likes to speak to more than a small gaggle of acquaintances.
Orientation Heterosexual
Language(s) Spoken Federation standard

Personal History Early Years

Born on the Trill homeworld, Norvi Stace had an affluent up-bringing, being brought up in a rather small family. Mother, father (naturally) a twin sister and a younger brother. Her twin sister decided to continue with the family business of landscaping and did not follow her into the Academy.

Excelling at school, Stace took no specific interest in one subject or other but did enjoy the outdoors and biology. Commanding a small group of friends, she didn't always realise her full potential in education until well into her third year. Sometimes barely scraping through, however, her natural intelligence would always allow her to garner success. She knew when to knuckle down and get the job done when needed.

After being accepted into the Trill Joining Program, she excelled quickly and was sponsored by her tutor to receive a Symbiont. As an initiate, she passed all required tests and had her application approved by the Symbiosis Commission. Three years later, she was joined.

Stace Symbiont History

The Stace Symbiont:

Four previous hosts

KELL STACE: First Stace host, FEMALE. Never married. Extremely artistic. Creatively wrote poetry and painted to a professional degree. Had a deep-rooted connection to nature and anything that grew. In her later years, Kell retired to the Ayai'leh-hirh mountain range and lived a quiet life of peace, solitude and art. She died of natural causes aged 87, having been host for over 60 years.

HANOR STACE: Second Stace host, MALE. A young host initiate, Hanor was joined to the Stace Symbiont at aged 22. Before joining, Hanor was a competent athlete, excelling in all areas of sport and activity. Coming from a strong medical family background, Hanor was pressured into a medical career and took over the family practice aged just 30. At aged 36, Hanor plummeted to his death whilst on a climbing expedition to the Tenaran ice cliffs. He left behind twin boys and their unmarried mother.

YVAINE STACE: Third Stace host, FEMALE. Married, with three children. After being joined, Yvaine Stace developed a keen interest in space exploration, something she attributed to her previous host’s submission to career pressure from his family. Hanor’s yearning to break free from his family commitment manifested itself this way. Applying to the Trill Space Exploration program, Yvaine joined an independent group of scientists and engineers whose ambition was to further develop space travel and exploration. After rising to the head of the committee, Yvaine accepted a position in the Trill Senate Tower as an advisor to the Senate regarding off-world affairs. Dealing closely with Federation ambassadors, the Stace Symbiont had its first taste of UFP affairs. The 3rd host died suddenly whilst on a dignitary assignment at Starfleet Headquarters on Earth. After several years of ill-health contributed to stress, heart-failure was diagnosed as the cause.

JANEL STACE Fourth Stace host, MALE. As a young Ensign on-board the USS Tithonus, Janel Prem had no wish to be joined. However, while transporting the Stace Symbiont back to the Trill homeworld, the ship was attacked by an unidentified, rogue Romulan Battle-Cruiser and took heavy damage. Key ship systems were severely damaged and caused a ship-wide power failure. This caused the Stace Symbiont’s health to rapidly deteriorate. The only option present to the medical team was to implant the Symbiont into the Trill Ensign. After being unexpectedly joined, Janel decided to resign his commission in Starfleet and returned back to Trill to work for the Symbiosis Commission where he received on-going counselling for the unplanned joining. After the period of adjustment, Janel Stace went back to Starfleet and was re-instated to the rank of Lieutenant aboard the USS Tennyson as a Bridge Tactical officer. After serving for a further 28 years, the then Commander Stace was assigned his first command duty-post and promoted to the rank of Captain aboard the USS Gilmore, a Galaxy Class starship. The USS Gilmore played a significant role in the Battle of Wolf 359 against the Borg in 2367 and this was one of Stace's finest memories. However, during a skirmish with a Breen patrol during the Dominion War, the Gilmore came under heavy firepower, causing severe damage to vital ship systems. When the Flight Officer was incapacitated, Captain Stace took the helm. As he manoeuvred the ship through the battleground, his control panel experienced a power surge and threw the Captain from his station. The ship, and her Captain, survived the conflict but both were irreparably damaged. The Gilmore was de-commissioned 8 months later and her Captain spent the next 3 years in Starfleet Medical in recovery. The remaining 7 years of his life were filled with check-ups, tests and on-going transport journeys between Earth and Trill. The Stace Symbiont made a full recovery, however the body of its 4th host failed on an operating table back on Trill in 2385.
Starfleet History STACE IN STARFLEET

The Stace Symbiont's first dealings with the Federation in an official capacity came about through its 3rd host, Yvaine. Leaping from the standpoint as head of an independent committee formed by the Trill Space Exploration program, Yvaine accepted a position in the Trill Senate Tower as an advisor to the Senate regarding off-world affairs. This role, naturally, introduced the host to the Federation and, with her background in space exploration, specifically Starfleet. Being utilised, firstly, as a make-shift ambassador between the two governmental bodies, this is where Stace received its foundational contact that would span another two lifetimes.

When the Symbiont was passed to its successor, Janel, through a desperate act designed to save its deteriorating health, at first it would seem as though the Symbiont would abandon its Federation and Starfleet ties. Already a junior officer serving within the Fleet, Ensign Janel Prem was untrained and unprepared to be joined. Emerging from the experience as a butterfly does from its chrysalis, Prem into Stace, Janel did not recognise the result of his own transformation. Plummeting him into a world of chaos, and confusion: ribbons of memories weaved loosely together and unable to distinguish his own thread to that of his predecessors, Janel had but one choice and resigned his commission from the USS Tithonus to retreat back to the Trill home world. There, he would retire from society for a spell and work with the Trill Symbiosis Commission, receiving intense counselling to assist him in combating the effects being unprepared for the joining had brought him. Several years would pass before the ordering of memories and lives would come to Janel and it was only then that the structure and procedure Starfleet offered him in his earlier life would draw him back to service.

Contacting not only his former Captain, now a decorated Admiral, but also acquaintances forged by its previous host, Janel Stace was re-instated to the rank of Lieutenant aboard the USS Tennyson as a Science Officer. Serving aboard this undistinguished New Orleans Class vessel, Stace rose through the ranks and was promoted quickly to Lieutenant Commander after successfully leading an away mission which resulted in the discovery of a type 12 gaseous stellar phenomenon harbouring intelligent particle matter. When the opportunity arose to serve with an old friend aboard the Ambassador Class vessel, the USS Davis, Stace applied for a commission transfer and embarked upon Bridge duty shifts, resulting in his first taste of command. Seven years aboard the Davis afforded the Lieutenant Commander a promotion in rank to full Commander and valuable experience. Decorated by Starfleet Command for bravery in battle and 3 accounts of first contact, Commander Stace received his first and only full command as Captain of the USS Gilmore.

A powerful Galaxy Class ship, the Gilmore and its Captain played a significant role in the Battle of Wolf 359 against the Borg in 2367. However, during skirmish with a Breen patrol in the Dominion War, the Gilmore came under heavy firepower, causing severe damage to vital ship systems. When the Flight Officer was incapacitated, Captain Stace took the helm. As he manoeuvred the ship through the battleground, his control panel experienced a power surge and threw the Captain from his station, causing his immune system to go into shock. The ship, and her Captain, survived the conflict but both were irreparably damaged. The Gilmore was de-commissioned 8 months later and Stace spent the next 3 years in Starfleet Medical in recovery. The remaining 7 years of his life were filled with check-ups, tests and on-going transport journeys between Earth and Trill. The Stace symbiont made a full recovery, however the body of its 4th host failed on an operating table back on Trill in 2377.

Medical History The Stace Symbiont was taken back to the Caves of Mak'ala and maintained by the unjoined Trill guardians for approximately a year before Norvi was selected to be its fifth host. She has now been joined a little over eight years. Her only noted change since joining is now her tendency to run herself down with colds, something that she rarely suffered with previously. However, with the clinical air-filtration system in place on Starfleet starships, this usually only bothers her when she's on world.

Her only childhood trauma came in the guise of a leg breakage whilst climbing trees in her youth in the fields and groves close to her home. The family business of landscape gardening meant that she spent the majority of her younger years in nature, and as a result, garnered an almost tomboy-like quality. If it wasn't for the modern dermal regenerator, her alabaster skin would be covered in scrapes and scars from her carefree days.
Service Record The Stace Symbiont then came into the possession of a young and ambitious Trill named Norvi Malim. Holding a natural interest in the Sciences and Engineering, Norvi Malim excelled through her early schooling. With her mother already joined, she was groomed through her teens to apply to the Symbiosis Commission and developed a genuine desire to do so. After being accepted, she excelled through the program and quickly obtained her own Symbiont: Stace. With this addition, Norvi, along with her own foundation of passions, felt drawn towards service and in particular, Starfleet once again. She could never ascertain if she was primarily driven by her own urges, or whether the force came from within her belly however she scored well on her Entrance Exam and soon embarked upon her Academy career for officer training. Upon graduation, Ensign Stace was offered his first commission aboard the USS Snowdonia, a Nova Class. A small ship and a smaller crew, Ensign Stace battened down and worked through what she came to call an uneventful eighteen months. Short-range planetary exploration in a “sardine can” did not compare to the captaining of a Galaxy Class starship, but this period of service was perhaps more valuable than Stace would come to know. It was here that Norvi realised she had to use her Symbiont’s past experience as a starting block for her own progression and achievements instead of a comparison gauge. Norvi would chose not only to draw and learn from her past, but to add to it. She applied for a transfer and was later reassigned to the more remarkable and larger vessel, the USS London, a Sovereign. After six months, Stace was promoted by her Captain to Lieutenant Junior Grade and assigned to serve on the Bridge. After a further twelve months, Stace decided that she missed the excitement of Science and in particular research and submitted a formal request to be reassigned to scientific epicentre of the ship where she felt that she belonged: the labs.

But the Sovereign class didn't afford Stace the scientific exploration both she and the Symbiont desired. Advanced the London may well have been, but scientifically focused, she wasn’t. She began to look at her options and noted a specialised Nova class ship with a senior position vacant. It would mean the return to the “sardine can” but she was grateful.

After serving only a few months in her newly promoted role as Chief Research Officer, Stace then transferred to Chief Science Officer overseeing the entire department. It was here that Stace truly felt comfortable, the commanding officer of her own mini-crew. It was as she took this mantle that the Trill was then offered the role of ship's Second Officer and promoted to Lieutenant Commander in 2392.
