ON:

"You really couldn't have cut it finer, could you?"

Stace walked up the transporter padd as the materialising man still swathed in a blue ionised hue took shape. "I'm going to have to jump up an extra couple of warp factors to catch up with the convoy now. It would have just been easier for you to have met me at Starbase Eighty Four like I asked."

Cadwyn had only caught the tail end of what the Trill had said before, as his form solidified, he launched his duffel bag off the padd and at the commander with a flash of his teeth. She caught it reflexively and then flicked her eyebrow up in a mocking fashion as a subtle smile broke across her lips. She cut a quick glance over to the transporter room crewman before then lacing a chastising one back to her guest. He took its meaning immediately and then gently stepped off the padd, taking the bag back in his hand apologising with his hazel eyes. "Sorry," he mouthed as they both turned to walk towards the door.

Stace nodded her thanks to the crewman and then escorted her friendly guest towards the door. "It's good to see you again," she said quietly to the blond man as they turned out of the room and down the corridor. He jostled a nudge back to her as they exited the hearing range of the transporter room and smiled more widely now. "You may be acting the big I AM here on this tiny ship, Norvi, but don't forget that you're not my captain. And I'm here as a favour. So you might want to wind your neck in before I get right back on that transport and head back to Trill." He cocked his head to betray his jest and then smiled again.

Their demeanour was relaxed and familiar, like two friends who had grown up together, exploring their friendship as they did their years. It had been almost seven years since Norvi's family had taken on the young man to keep the grounds of their homestead back on Trill and in those seven years both he and the Trill had formed a family-like kinship.

"You're the best gardener I know, Cadwyn," Stace admitted, stepping into the turbolift and asking for Deck Seven. "And I need you to help me out." The short ride deposited them just outside the beckoning doors of the arboretum as Stace stopped out of the reach of the bio-sensor. Cadwyn looked to the Trill and then back to the door, reading the name plate before drawing in a sigh.

"You want me to start straight away? You're kidding me! I've just stepped on board!"

"No," Stace replied, a smile now widening on her mouth. "I'm just showing you what you're up against. And - um - also, I haven't managed to secure you more permanent quarters just yet. So, you're in the VIP until that comes through. But don't get comfortable," she wagged her finger at him defiantly. "You'll be spending more time down here by choice when you see what cramped conditions you'll be living in eventually." She paused and then walked through the doors as they breathed open before her. She looked about her quickly as the view assaulted her with a more petite perspective. She'd never regarded the arboretum as small before. And yet, standing beside the man she had now coaxed halfway across the universe to help her tend the postage stamp size of gardens that began at her feet, it all looked oddly minuscule.

Cadwyn's hazel eyes widened as with a shocked glare he returned it back to Norvi. "You've dragged me from seventy three acres of wild terrain to tend to... this?"

"It honestly seemed a little bigger when I had the idea. I promise you," she miserably exclaimed.

Cadwyn dropped his bag and then groaned loudly. "I mean, the pond is at least something, but..." He stopped short as Norvi cut in.

"I just need you to get things here back in order. You know me. I kill anything I try to water. And we need a lot of these plants for science. If you do me proud I may even get you to assist with the hydroponics bay."

The bribe fell on deaf ears as Cadwyn rolled his eyes. "You'd better talk to your captain really nicely or you'll have a squatter on your hands. For this, I'm staying in the VIP quarters."

Stace smiled and nodded, lying through her pleasing eyes. He'll come to love it here, I'm sure, she silently lied to herself. Plus he owes me.
