Mission: Episode 08 - NIMBUS
Location: Bridge, USS Galileo
Timeline: MD -03, 1555

ON:

It was coming to the end of Alpha shift on their first day, and the sleek hull of the Galileo striped through the cosmos on its way to the Chin'Da sector without incident. There was something soothing to the Trill as she sat in the command chair, the thunderbolts of stars cutting through the black on the viewscreen as she traveled along her course and a serene calm welled in her belly.

Stace turned her head as the turbolift door breathed open to reveal her acting executive officer walking through to begin her own Beta shift and Stace smiled warmly to greet her. Not standing from her chair, Norvi shifted her weight so that she could lean in to talk to Allyndra once she had sat down.

"Nothing to report, Commander," Stace said matter-of-factly as she rested her chin on her hand. "How's your day been? Popped your head into Sickbay yet?"

Allyndra still felt sleepy. She had to shift her hours around and normally beta was her sleep time. She still retreated to sickbay during gamma but that was mostly just to continue her research which she actually found relaxing. Thus, alpha had become her new bedtime and her body clock still was adjusting. She had a good yawn that was over thankfully before the turbolift doors opened. A quick sweeping glance and everything looked like it was smooth sailing as far as she could determine.

"Anything I did to be aware of Captain?" Allyndra asked Stace and got a prompt reply as she came to stand next the Trill in the big seat. "I am still adjusting to coming here then there but yes, I still take some time to continue my research. Mott has been doing a good job of filling in the duties in sickbay."

The mention of Norvi's fake ex-husband's name made her fondly smile as she scrunched up her nose kindly. "It's nice to hear that he's doing so well already. He's a special sort of one, that man. Just not necessarily one that you would want in charge of Gamma shift. Which is actually something that I would like to discuss with you."

In all honesty, Stace hadn't needed to settle into an alternative sleeping pattern since she took the Alpha in the science labs. But since being given her promotion to Second Officer she had begun to consider her own Gamma shift duties, particularly on the bridge. Only without Captain Holliday this was no longer an option. And pulling three or four straight double duty shifts seemed impossible to the Trill. She wanted to allow, as she now could, other members of the Galileo crew to mould into those crevices a non-full complement left short.

"How would you consider offering the Gamma shift to Lieutenant Jones. I know that he's picked up the Chief Engineering position on this mission but I feel it right to test him further."

Allyndra thought about that. It was not a bad choice though there was one little subject, "That sounds like an excellent suggestion Captain. Technically Mott outranks him but I think having sickbay to handle would be much preferable to our blue friend than sitting here. If it becomes an issue, which I do not think it will I will explain to the good doctor that his skills are vastly more important handling the medical department. That should assuage his ego."

"And if that doesn't work," Stace jibed, "I'll just remind him of his theatrics in the Kobayashi Maru. I don't think Captain Holliday would ever forgive me if I left Mott in charge. And speaking as his fake ex-wife, I imagine it'll be a conflict of interests."

She scrunched her nose up Allyndra and then changed the conversation around. "How are you getting on with your new duties, Commander? Excited?"

"Currently they are fine. It reminds me a lot of keeping up with medical records, just report after report most of which are so routine I wonder why it is needed. The crew seems to be operating smoothly and thus it is shall I say boring. I look forward to our meeting with the Klingons," Allyndra all but whispered, "even if nothing more than some good bloodwine. I have developed quite a taste for it and quite a tolerance as well."

Stace down-turned her mouth and then pulled a mock-disgusted face. "In all my lifetimes I have tried that wretched beverage and have never got to grips with it." She sighed and then widened her eyes to her. "I suppose I'll have to chug a few pewter mugs down for ceremonial value. But failing that, since you're so fond of the stuff, we can always switch once you've polished off your share. Providing you can handle the stuff."

Allyndra smiled, "A few mugs? Unless your used to it and unless it is poorly made I am going to have to arrange for an escort to get you back. It is not for everyone but one of the few things that I find I can handle and since it is really brewed from a blood base...well...." Allyndra licked her lips then laughed lightly. Most on the ship had pretty much found out or knew that Akkadian's were primarily heamtophages.

"Horses for courses," Stace flicked her eyebrows back. She smiled and then relaxed her face. "Well, I think I have out-stayed my welcome on your shift, Commander," she added as she stood from her chair and then smoothed down the front of her uniform. "Plus, I'd like to catch Lieutenant Jones before his own shift finishes in Engineering." She spun around on the bridge and took in the quiet activity and muted sounds of the consoles. "Contact me if you need anything, Commander."

Allyndra nodded and responded, "Aye Captain." She remained standing for a bit until Stace had gotten to the turbolift and the doors closed. She had not wanted to give the impression she was overly eager. She took the seat and then refocused her gaze on Win.
