Her high heels made satisfying clicks as Sigrid Thelin walked through the terminal. Her left hand clutched a to-go cup which contained some sort of sugary liquid with a vague smell of coffee. Her right hand gripped her communicator which she held clutched in the air as she dangled her large purse off her arm. Behind her, two mobile suitcases followed closely behind; slowing automatically to keep pace. She walked boldly, showing off her new outfit with the confidence of someone that knows fashion. Her head was held high, with a fierce look in her eyes. She knew they looked fierce because she practiced it in the lavatory mirror.
She stopped in front of the terminal doors. "You got this, Sigrid." She whispered affirmatively to herself. She had arrived on Sol III. She was happy. She was so excited she thought she was going to cry. The doors opened and she pushed herself outside, then promptly gagged. "What is that smell?" She asked to no one in particular. "It's-- gaaacck. Oh, it's so---gaaaaacck." She covered her mouth and in a squealing fit she dashed back inside. Her mobile suitcases followed too slowly, getting trapped outside. "Well, haark spit!" She hung her hands in defeat, allowing her purse to slump to the floor. She'd never visited another planet before let alone Sol III and she hadn't realized how differently they could smell from her own. She hoped she'd get used to it eventually.
"Are you alright miss?" The terminal attendant was some elderly human male. He looked at her with a concerned scowl.
"Just one casualty." She pointed a brilliantly painted nail at the to-go cup spilled on the ground outside. Her mobile suitcases continued to bump into the door from the outside as they tried to wheel themselves to the preprogrammed distance from her communicator. "Serrrriously?" She said exasperatedly to her suitcases.
"I see." He eyed her suspiciously.
Thankfully she spotted what could only be Deidre's father. He stood by a hover car looking extremely bored holding a sign that read "Sigrid the Abandoner." She smiled at the terminal attendant before retrieving her purse. She reached out and squeezed the attendants wrinkled old hand briefly. "You have a lovely planet." She smiled, stepped forward, and began rummaging through her purse for hand sanitizer gel. The automatic doors opened, and her mobile suitcases dashed forward taking her down in the process. After she gathered herself together, she straightened her skirt and started over as if unphased. She didn't look back to see if the attendant was watching her before she approached Deidre's father. Trying hard to breath through her mouth as she walked.
"Are you Rubin?" She asked brightly.
"Ah, you must be Sigrid." He looked more excited to get this chore out of the way than he was to see her.
"Or Siri for short if you want, and thank you so much for letting me stay with you." She helped him put her suitcases in the back. Of course 'helped' in this case meant watched him do so.
"Dee said it was for just a few----what do you have in these things? Titanium?" He grunted as he shoved the last one in.
"Those things are surprisingly roomy." She opened the passenger side door and hopped in. "And yes, just a couple wee--" His glare could peel paint. "Err, daaaays I mean." She gave him her widest smile. "Is it always this cloudy in San Francisco?" she said when he got behind the steering wheel.
"Well, not alwa--"
"Ooooh! You have environment controls in this thing!" She squealed and began adjusting the air flow, breathing deeply.
"Deidre said you'd be weird." He continued to watch the road when he spoke, his face was passive.
She made a mock horrified expression. "She didn't."
"I'm afraid so." He chuckled to himself. "Do you have work yet?"
"I have a job at the Alta Plaza Garden Cafe, it's in the Alta Plaza Park. Very original name, I know, but it's just temporary."
"Yes, Deidre mentioned you applied for civilian work in Starfleet."
"Yes!" She clapped her hands together. "Oh, it sounds perfect. I applied for the service sector, but how busy can a starship's lounge be, right?" She reached out and squeezed Rubin's arm suddenly, remembering. "Oh! And I'll be able to study more often. It really is working out wonderfully. I wonder what ship I'll be on." She put her head down on his shoulder, with a dreamy smile on her face. "Or what worlds they'll orbit." She sat back up and started typing out a message on her communicator. "I should message Blarssa, oh and K'os! Who else do I know lives here?"
"And you couldn't have stayed with any of them?" He shook his head.
She didn't stop typing or look up. "And miss experiencing your sense of humour?" She looked at him then with a big smile then whispered dramatically, "Neverrrrr."
