Amynta put the dressing gown on, carefully moving through to the living room. She couldn't sleep...she had nodded off for a bit, but woken up. She walked to the kitchen area in the dark, moving to the replicator. "Herbal tea, peppermint, hot."

"Could I have one, please? The mint tea with dinner was beautiful," Laeon said softly from where he watched her in the dark, lying on the sofa.

"Of course," she said and smiled gently. She replicated him some as well, moving to him. "Although that was made from dried mint I had...this will be a bit different."

He sat up to give her room on the sofa with him, having been wide awake for the last hour. He'd tried to sleep, and he'd managed to snooze, but now he couldn't get back to sleep. "Awake too then?"

"Yes," she said as she sat down beside him. "A lot of stuff going on in my head I suppose..." she offered the drink to him, watching his face.

"Thank you," he took it carefully, sipping it before watching her. "What 'stuff'?"

Amynta smiled weakly, sipping her drink. "The people. The Borg. I...they're like this almost mythical horror villain. The Borg. And yet these people had them tamed."

"Tamed?" Laeon tilted his head, watching her in the dim light.

"Controlled by the...new aliens," she said and watched him, shaking her head. "It's complicated. I know you'd understand it if I explained, but I don't have the brain power to explain it. I'll give you a padd to read later if you are interested."

"Not really," he admitted with a small smile. To a youth like him, the Borg weren't really all that interesting to him. He'd already seen the devastation of Wolf 359. "How has it changed the thoughts in your head?"

"Makes me wonder if they managed, how long before someone within the Federation tries and then it backfires..." she admitted and smiled weakly to him. "But what is keeping you up?"

"I am not sure," he shook his head with a small smile, sipping his tea. "I feel - unsettled. Perhaps it is the return of the Borg.

Amynta nodded and reached to touch his arm. "You did well," she finally said. "You survived. And you've been taking care of yourself while your father has worked."

He shook his head with a frown, letting out a breath. "I was shut in a room with children when the Borg attacked," he said quietly. "I could not fight. I could not help. I had to - sit and wait like an invalid."

She frowned as she watched him, shifting slightly. "Look...I know it sucks. And compared to me, you're...yeah, old. In years. But to your people, you are a teenager. And unfortunately, until you can show the Federation otherwise, we have...a responsibility towards you. Your safety."

"I know," he said quickly, shaking his head. "I know. I was not - blaming. It was just difficult. No control. No being useful."

"I hate those feelings too...if it helps," Amynta said and smiled, touching his cheek with a chuckle.

"A powerful woman cannot feel like that," he smiled, tilting his head. He could sense the power in her through the touch.

"Oh, we have all been in places and positions where we were helpless," she said and pulled back, to sip her tea. "It's part of being...a person."

"I sensed power in you," Laeon said with awe, shaking his head gently. Still being young for his people, he was only just starting to show signs of his Talent that would blossom as he became a full adult.

She chuckled at that, watching him for a long moment. "You will be a strong man...capable...I can see that already."

"Like Dad?" he asked with a small smile at that. "He is stubborn. But sometimes it just makes me laugh. And that makes him even more stubborn. Which makes me laugh more. And then he eventually cannot help but laugh too."

Amynta chuckled as she nodded, watching him. "You have a good role model in him, I think. He is so dedicated. But you...you can be whatever you want to be."

"He tells me that," Laeon nodded gently before giving a small smile. "Actually, he virtually grabs me and shakes it into me. It is...different for our race. It is not how it usually works. But he is adamant."

"How does it work then?" she asked as she finished her tea, watching his face for a long moment.

"Usually, we would have to work in a career that suited whichever Talent we develop in adulthood, unless you're the oldest child in a political house, in which case, you become a member of the council," he shook his head with a weak smile. "Like Dad - he developed the 'Transfer' Talent, which lends itself well to medicine, so he had be a doctor."

"How does it work?" she asked with interest, watching his eyes. He was relaxed...she could tell he trusted her. And she wanted to be worthy of that trust for a change.

"Through touch," Laeon smiled gently to her, holding his hand up to motion. "He touches someone and he can transfer different things between himself and them, or them and him. How well their chemistry matches defines what can be transferred and how well. So, it can be emotions, or memories, energy, other Talents, heat, many different things. The reason why Transferers are made to be doctors is because they can transfer energy. He can take energy for himself, or give his to other people. It also means that through touch, there are somethings he can heal in another person."

"And it tires him," she said and frowned, shaking her head. "But you...you are slightly different, aren't you?"

Laeon nodded softly before looking down with a soft smile. "I'm still young. Mine are only just starting. They are not developed yet. They are similar to his, but....different too...." he shrugged lightly. "So far, I can get a sense of things at times."

Amynta took his hand, watching him as she took a breath. "You will be exposed to more here. People, things...you are outside the controlled environment. Your powers might...be different than anything your father has seen before."

Laeon nodded softly, swallowing hard. "And there are no academies to help train it," he said quietly. "Dad didn't want to be a doctor. I think that is why he is so firm on me doing what I want."

She squeezed the hand, her eyes warm. "Well...if you decide you do want to be a doctor, convince him..." she winked, searching his face.

He nodded, smiling gently as he watched her with fondness. "At the moment, I'm just enjoying my art stories."

"And art is a beautiful thing," she said softly, taking a breath as she looked around. She stood, moving to get a book, carrying it to him. She offered it to him, holding his eyes. "Here. It is from Earth. Japanese art...keep it. Might be something new for you."

Laeon watched her with surprise, touching it with awe. "I...I could not, it is yours."

"It is a gift," she said gently, smiling warmly. "Just take it, Laeon. It's good reading material."

He clasped it, smiling gently to her. "Thank you. I...will make you an art story in return," he promised.

"If you wish," she said and smiled gently, watching him. "Let me tuck you in...you can read it until you fall asleep."

"Tuck me in?" he asked with curiosity as he settled back, watching her in the dim light.

Amynta watched him before smiling gently, standing. "It's...something humans say," she said and took the blanket, gently putting it over him. "When they get someone ready for bed."

Laeon watched her with interest before giving a small smile. "Will you sleep? Humans need their rest."

"Yes, I will," she said and smiled as she made sure he was comfortable. "I'll go back to bed. Sweet dreams, Laeon."

"Stars watch you," Laeon said quietly, his eyes sliding closed as he let out a long breath.

Amynta smiled gently as she pulled back, touching his arm before moving through. She slipped back into her bed, closing her eyes as she moved closer to the warmth of Alexion's body,
