Location: USS Galileo - Lt. Rhodes' Quarters

ON:

Theron returned to the Galileo from their visit on the planet below. Their hosts had not been as violent as he had planned for. That was a good thing. The Security Chief deposited his weapons and gear in the Armory, and went to his quarters. There was a great turmoil of emotion in him and Theron felt he had to refocus and compose himself.

Entering his quarter the Tandaran said, "Lights dim." He walked over and sat in a favorite chair, where he liked to read. It was a comfortable chair that allowed his body to relax while still sitting in an upright position; feet flat on the floor and arms lying gently on the armrests.

There were so many mixed feelings in him at the same time. He was so angry, that he wanted to beat up the nearest Borg drone until his knuckles bled. That in itself was very odd for Theron, since the majority of the time any physical action from him would normally have been utilizing his legs, arms, and throws. He definitely would not be punching on anything.

Shame was a piercing emotion; an emotion that can take one's focus off their task. There could be lives at stake. This was something Theron felt he had to resolve. The shame, he knew, came from the fact of the removal of hair; not from his head, but from the genital area. In his society, Tandaran Society, boys was very much looked down on by their peers and even ridiculed until hair began to grow. Theron's supposed friends had been also been cruel. He could only figure that they too had been treated mercilessly at a younger age. He had to tell himself, Hair will grow back. It just takes a little time.

Theron continued to sit there in the dim light of his quarters. He was more relaxed now. He was glad that he had prepared for the away mission; bringing the many weapons and shield generator. But just as disappointed that he had not had the chance to use any of these weapons against the Borg. He felt sad for a moment, realizing that he, as yet, had not fought any of Borg Drones. By the time he had been released from decontamination the major fighting had ceased. He felt he had failed the crew on several levels there, as well.

All this he knew would pass, and it was only his own feeling of inadequacy brought them to a point of effecting his ability to lead. "Yes, leadership." Theron said aloud to emphasize the point. He knew that leadership meant, not necessarily to hide his emotions, but to control them. An important part of that leadership was to put up a front of confidence for others to see. Yet, to be honest to others was important, and not hesitate nor doubt his own abilities.

"So, now . . . " Rhodes said aloud confidently and opened his eyes. He stood and stepped to the center of the room. He looked cautiously to the right and then to the left. He brought his palms together in front of him with the fingers pointed up. "Booss-Tah." He said and began the movements of a cata. Booss-Tah is one of many form movements in the martial art of Tan-Kei. It is designed to be performed from a standing position with occasional extensions of the arm and/or leg. Its formation helps the individual bring focus, preparing oneself; mind and body.

The cata progressed well. His movements; a natural movement that he had repeated many times before. Muscle memory may take over at times, but he was in control at all times. His mind focused as he continued. He could feel the internal function of his body. He could feel his heart rate and every muscle group. His breathing controlled and providing the needed oxygen. His mind was clear of distractions and inadequacies. He knew that emotionally, all personal issues were tucked away for now. Speaking to the Counselor would be important and he would bring them back out to deal with at that time.

After several minutes, Theron ended the cata, again with his palms together, but this time in a low swat, his knees at right angles. Theron took in a deep breath and stood slowly. He checked the chronometer and headed off to get a shower. He was certain that the Captain would be calling soon for a staff meeting. Arriving to the group sweating would not be the best option.

As he walked he reached up and wiped the sweat from his smooth bald scalp. He smiled slightly, "Maybe it is time for a new hair style. HAH!"
