Mormont smiled gently as he spotted Gabriel, relief flooding him. He knew the away teams had been a success, but he was still glad to see him. "Hey," he walked over, touching his shoulder.

"Hey," Gabriel gave a bright smile at seeing who it was, gripping his arm. "Not Borg, I see..."

He smiled warmly as he pulled him close, into a hug. "Still human, still around, still kicking."

"Good, or I'd have had to storm the cube again," Gabriel grinned, gripping him in a tight hug. "It all went well?"

"Got the XO back," he whispered as he held him, smiling warmly to himself. "What about you?"

"Grabbed some people too," Gabriel smiled, sneaking a breath against his hair. This man had one hell of a strong, worked body. But not over the top. Just right. "Does that mean the XO owes you one?" he asked with an innocent smile.

"I hope so...would be pretty good," Amon said and smiled warmly as he pulled back. "You know, in case Rhodes or Rice get on my back."

"Hm. Not sure about Rhodes, but Aria would fit quite nicely up on your back, iddy biddy sweetheart she is," Gabriel's eyes were playful as he moved to take a seat, sighing at taking the weight off his feet.

He smiled warmly as he sat back, sighing as well as he bit his lip. "Mm...true, she is tiny...but I bet I could carry you too."

Gabriel laughed at that, resting back as he stretched so he could tuck his arm behind his head, his other hand lifting to play with the gold chain under the collar of his uniform. "I don't think it's worth the risk. Because if you dropped me, I'd have to shoot you."

"Ouch..." Amon said, watching his hand with interest. "I don't like the idea of being shot, you know...not without someone nursing me."

"Mm, I'd nurse you good," Gabriel teased, his eyes shining as he caught the chain between his lips.

Amon smiled as he watched him, his eyes shining. "I bet you would...you look like a caring man..."

"I'm not sure many others would agree," Gabriel grinned, clearly amused at the prospect.

He smiled warmly as he touched his arm. "They haven't seen you fight the Borg. You were amazing."

"I love the fact that you find my fighting Borg 'caring'," Gabriel whispered, holding his eyes as he leant to him.

"More how you kept me covered," Amon said as he searched his eyes. "You are good at what you do."

Gabriel let out a long breath at the words. It was something he felt. That he was good at what he did. He'd messed up a lot in his life, but in his core, he felt some comfort in being good at his job. But he didn't hear it often, and having been told the opposite by the last Chief, well. "Thanks," he said softly, the playful teasing gone, and his dark eyes serious.

Amon watched him for a long moment, searching his eyes before nodding. "I am proud to work with you," he said softly.

Gabriel watched him, judging if he meant it before he smiled. His throat tightened. He hadn't realised how much words like that would mean to him. "This little Petty Officer?" he said softly, a smile on his lips.

He smiled warmly, shaking his head as he reached to touch his cheek. "Yes, this little ball of energy of a Petty Officer."

Gabriel laughed warmly, touching the hand, leaning to press his cheek into it. "You're a distraction when we're fighting. You just look too good when you're being aggressive."

He smiled warmly as he watched him, with surprise. "Now that is a bit of a surprise..."

"What? You're hot, you have to know what. Those broad shoulders and strong chest that narrow down to slender hips - all covered in sweat - adrenaline pumping through you as you move and fight - " Gabriel shrugged, grinning with the playfulness back in his eyes. "What's not to distract?"

Amon watched him with awe before reaching to slap his arm. "I think you are a very beautiful lad who seriously...needs to get some action."

Gabriel laughed, shaking his head. "Well I did, and I do. Nothing serious though. Just - fun. Doesn't stop you having an amazing body though. Are you seriously telling me no one has ever told you that?"

He blushed as he shook his head, swallowing. "Not in...such erotic terms, no," he admitted softly.

Gabriel watched him with genuine shock at the words before smiling, leaning close to him to drape his arm over his shoulder. "Well I'm telling you now."

"I...much appreciated," he said and smiled, wrapping his arm around him with warmth.

Gabriel leant into it, feeling oddly comfortable with Amon. "I still can't believe both of us came out of it all in one piece."

Amon smiled warmly as he nodded, his eyes gentle. "Because we both stuck together and kept each other safe."

"Always got your back," he said lightly, but with a wink.

Amon nodded, reaching to stroke his dark hair back, his heart racing. "I know, lad...and I got yours. No matter what."

Gabriel's lips parted as he watched him, and he searched his seductive eyes. "You know, I always think about what you might have seen with those eyes."

"I would tell you anything you wanted to hear," he said gently as he let out a shaky breath.

Gabriel tilted his head gently with a soft smile, touching the side of his neck as he watched him with awe at being so close to the handsome man. They'd been flirting for ages, but it had always been a fun game. This felt...different. "Don't believe it."

Amon smiled warmly as he watched him before nodding. "Well, ask anything and I will tell you, Gabriel Stark. I'll prove it."

"How did you really feel about being an enlisted instead of an officer?" he asked quietly.

Amon smiled weakly as he watched him, searching his eyes. "I was glad to make my own life. And I would have taken anything at that point. I have learned more as an enlisted than I ever thought possible. I have no regrets."

"At that point?" he asked softly, curious as to what he meant.

"I come from a good family...and I was a disappointment," he said and smiled weakly, shaking his head. "Disinherited."

Gabriel frowned, swallowing hard. He knew all too well what disappointing a family with high expectations felt like. "I'm sorry," he said quietly.

He watched him before shrugging, looking down. "It was oddly enough the best thing I...could ever have done."

A small smile curled Gabriel's lips at the words. He was glad Amon felt that way. He deserved to. "Good."

Amon smiled as he looked at him, his eyes warm. "So, Gabriel...do you believe me now?"

"Yes," Gabriel whispered with a warm smile, nodding gently as he squeezed his arm. "I'd do the same."
