Mission: Episode 04 - Exodus
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 7: Main Engineering
Timeline: MD03 - 0430 hrs

ON

Ammar Fahad re-zipped his uniform before walking out of his office. He hadn't had an opportunity to decorate his office, and it was probably a good thing. Everything that had been in the open had been strewn across the room by the Borg attack.

And that wasn't the worst that had happened to Galileo. He had finally caught up on what the situation was, and he and the Operations chief were going to be coordinating the repair efforts. All personnel were on duty and Fahad doubted that there would be any breaks in the next day or two.

The scene outside his office was bad. Several consoles were dark, showing the burn marks where they had burnt out from power overloads. Others were spider-webbed with cracks from where bodies, weapons, or artificial limbs had struck. Luckily, the "pool-table' had been mostly untouched.

"Okay everyone," the balding man called out, "gather around. We're expecting the Operations staff down here any minute."

Thanis was trying not to shake. He'd never seen anything this horrible in his life. And they still didn't know how many had been taken, who they were, where they were going, what would happen to them all when they got there... He pressed his hands to the sides of his thighs and stared at the new Chief, hoping action would keep him from panicking.

Showing an enormous bruise across his right eye, the young Scottish engineer made his way into the gathering. Riley still hadn't had the chance to get down to Sickbay to have a vascular regenerator passed over his face, the needs of the ship was far greater right now.

Asahi felt shorter than usual. Either that or the crew of the Galileo ran on growth-hormone inducing food. Between this and the semi-rushed briefing he had been given, he felt himself slightly dwarfed by the situation. And could he ever hear the poor vessel cry in agony! He had been in similar situations before, but the Galileo had to have been in the worst shape yet, the poor thing.

But that's why he was there, wedged between one tall officer and one taller crewman, PADD with the ship's specs in hand. Fix the ship up and wipe away her tears, that's what his job was.

Kate scuttled in on all eight legs. She had been in the Transporter Room rescuing the pilots, and thus largely insulated from the damage to the ship the main Engineering staff had seen. Now, though, she could see the full extent, but the experienced NCO had served in Starfleet too long to be shaken. She clacked her antennae together twice in a businesslike statement of intent and rose up on her rear legs, crossing three pairs of arms determinedly in front of her thorax.

"I am here to click! assist you in whatever click! way I can be of service."

Mor'an glided into Engineering, surprisingly unhurt and unfazed by the recent happenings. At least on the surface. Underneath, she fought the visions of her crew mates and superiors being impaled and assimilated by the Borg. She remained silent as she fell into place beside the others, waiting her orders.

Willis was present, looking at the ruin that once was a clean and neat Main Engineering facility.

Ever eager to avoid notice, Rhyan slipped in behind the eight-legged engineering petty officer. Everyone was a stranger, besides a few she recognized as fellow Venture transfers or volunteers, and the officer who had accepted her own offer of assistance. She'd offered to hep after being rescued from the claustrophobic escape pod, and after the attack, Rhyan knew her expertise would be very much needed and appreciated.

The remaining operations personnel entered and found places in the now-crowded room.

Ammar watched the arrival of the operations personnel. He couldn't find the Chief Operations Officer. So he instead looked for the Assistant Chief. He gestured for the ensign to join him.

Mor'an looked over at Ammar, just now realizing that it was her duty to head Operations now that Amril was gone. She stepped forward to stand beside him.

The chief engineer raised his hands above his head in a halt-like gesture to quiet the room. It was something he had learned from his last posting. The sounds of shuffling and quiet conversation died quickly. "We've got a serious situation here," he began, "the Captain has asked us to all work together to get things under control."

He brought up a display of the ship's damage, starting on deck one. "We've got multiple hull breaches, but we can't do anything about them until the shields come back up. They're isolated by forcefields for now, but we need people on EVA."

"We're going to establish teams of two, one person from each department. We can all use a bit of cross training, and with Borg on the ship we need people to watch our backs."

He looked around the room. "Before we make assignments, Ensign Mor'an will give her own evaluation and we'll open the floor for questions." He turned to the Tarkannan.

"Operations personnel," Mor'an began, her voice strong and clear, "I know I am not the one usually issuing your commands, but please hear me. This is not your usual line of duty, but do everything in your power to help Engineering to repair our ship." Her eyes found the people from her department and she looked at each of them in turn. "We have just experienced a horrific event that no one should ever have to partake in, and yet here we are." She gestured to the damage around them. "Let us do our best and repair the Galileo with sure hands."

The Arab engineer nodded, "Thank you, Ensign. Okay, if you have questions, now's the time to ask."

"Aye Sir, I have a question if I may. How are we going to cope with only having one warp nacelle? It's not like we have spares floating around in storage - the other one is pretty bashed up but from what I've seen so far we could probably restore low warp power with a bit of effort."

Cameron had to bite his tongue as he put his assessment across. It was true that with only one nacelle Galileo would have serious trouble maintaining a warp field for long, or at any great strength, but like any engineer, the young man felt that with enough duct tape and paperclips, they could achieve something remarkable.

Ammar nodded slowly. "Absolutely right, Cameron. Unfortunately, we've got primary systems that are two steps away from failing. We need to be sure that life support and our structural integrity fields are at full strength. We've also got to permanently repair the microfracture in the core before we can maintain a warp field of any kind for long."

He paused, then continued, "Now, after we get the bare essentials up, I intend to assemble a team to figure out how to rig something up for that nacelle. For now, though, we have more than enough on our plates."

He stopped, clearly opening the floor for more questions.

The questions from the staff seemed to have been exhausted. "Okay, here are your assignments." Ammar picked up a padd and began reading assignments from the device's screen. "We'll be working two decks per team, with two teams providing roving support."

"Lieutenant Kita, you'll be with Ensign Mor'an on decks one and two, but I want to meet with you for a few moments before you get going."

Mor'an left Lt. Fahad's side and moved towards Lt Kita. She had never met the man and was curious about him, hoping that they would work well together.

Asahi quickly looked up from his PADD before nodding a curt affirmation. "Yes sir." Then he smiled his bright smile at Mor'an. "Name's Asahi. Nice to meetcha!"

Mor'an raised an eyebrow at Asahi's informal greeting. "Nice to meet you as well," she said.

"Petty Officer Davies, you're with me. We'll be offering roving support." Fahad looked to the petty officer and nodded.

Rhyan ducked her head in agreement with a quietly spoken, "yes sir." She was surprised the CEO was asking her to accompany him rather than someone he was familiar with. She, personally, would have preferred a female partner.

"Lieutenant Peers and Chief K8 Yellow, take decks three and four."

Kate clicked her antennae together in annoyance. They had been assigned the most difficult decks, with far more different rooms to deal with than any other. The science labs housed specialist equipment. Further, the division by decks meant that different systems would be split up: deflector control, for example. But she supposed the new Chief had chosen such an approach because of the difficulty of moving between decks on the damaged ship, with Borg drones around. She looked around for Lilou, but she could not find the Trill engineer anywhere.

"Sir, I do not believe Lieutenant click! Peers is here," she announced in her tinny insectoid rasp. Though her voice itself was utterly flat and without emotion, her flailing antennae were indications of how concerned she was. It was very unlike the dutiful Lieutenant Peers not to report for duty.

Looking around, she noticed the nervous young Trill, Thanis, the sort of dry-behind-the-legs youth that Kate had a soft spot for (or would have had a soft spot for, had her entire body not been covered in extremely dense carapace).

"With your click! permission sir, I will take click! Crewman Rothgra instead."

"That's-" Thanis began to agree out of rank dependency to the Chief Petty Officer's suggestion, as his eyes scanned the assembled officers. "-amenable, sir. I would welcome the opportunity to learn." He rubbed his wrist, looking around again. Lieutenant Peers would want him to be the most useful he could be, but he felt sorely unprepared for the task considering the relative seniority and experience of the others in the room. Where was she?

Ammar looked around, unable to find her. He hadn't had a chance to do a full head-count, with all the meetings. "That's fine, go for it."

"Cameron, you're with Kilborne. Start on decks five and six."

"Aye sir" Riley chimed back before looking around the room. He still hadn't yet gotten around to meeting the entirety of the crew since coming aboard the Galileo, so resorted to the only method he knew.

"Kilborne! Pipe up if you're in here!"

The young Operations crewman held up an arm, the tattoos visible past his rolled up sleeves, and found his way over to Riley. "Ready when you are, Mr. Cameron."

"Chief Willis, you work with Eriksen on deck seven and eight."

Willis smiled, "You bet boss." he said as he looked for his partner.

Sofia's normally composed blonde hair was in disarray, and a smudge of dirt discoloured her pale cheek. Though an experienced Warrant Officer, she had never gone through anything like this, and it took her a moment to shake from the haze she was still in and recognise her name was being called. "Oh, right. Here, Willis."

"Chief Quinn, if you wouldn't mind working with Petty Officer Delaney as another roving support team, I would appreciate it greatly."

Quinn nodded and looked for his partner. "Delaney, get your ass over here so we can get to work."

The woman practically jumped over to Quinn's side. "Of course, Chief."

"If you need any assistance, call for one of the roving teams, or the team on the decks to either side of you. There's a lot of damage we need to get to."

The Chief Engineer stepped back. "Let's go, people."
