Still mildly stung by Commander Holliday's words of reproach, S'Ranna's coat was fuzzed up in agitation as she stalked into Flight Control, and her mind so occupied with concerns that she almost forgot to whip her tail clear of the door as it closed behind her. Her claws extended and retracted as she flexed her paws: she was irritated that the Commander had doubted her abilities, undoubtedly, but a vague shadow of doubt also tickled her mind that perhaps he had a point.

She had decided that a refresher course would ease both their nerves, and so she began looking through the computer library for a holodeck trainer program that would allow her to review her proficiency with the Nova flight control arrangement. As she worked at the console, her paws typing fast, her tail swished behind her at equal speed, an indication of her fretful state.

Nenokah was walking down the corridor on deck 4 of Flight Control when she was hit with a wall of strong emotion. She couldn't see the person, but whoever was around the bend in the walkway was experiencing a feeling of agitation. Though Nenokah couldn't tell what caused the agitation, she did know that it was fresh.

As she rounded the corner, Nenokah caught sight of the strangest Starfleet officer she had ever seen. From what she could see, it was female and it was from this being that the feeling was emanating. She was wearing the colors of Flight Control which, coupled with the fact that she was in said department, made Nenokah believe this was the new officer she had heard about. Walking up to the new officer, Nenokah made her presence known by calling out to her.

"We haven't met," she said abruptly, stopping to stand next to the officer. "I'm Lt. JG Ral, Assistant Flight Control Officer. You're the new officer I've heard of?"

S'Ranna's adept Caitian hearing was in some way the equal of Nenokah's empathic gifts, and she had heard her approach from afar; as such, she was not surprised when she spoke up. Surprise did register, however, in her golden slitted eyes at the sight of the speaker: a Klingon! Involuntarily, S'Ranna's claws shot out. Though something in her colouration suggested this officer was not fully Klingon, and 'Ral' was not a Klingon name...hmm, mysterious...

"I am not knowing which officer you have been hearrring of," S'Ranna said guardedly. "But I have the honour of being Ensign S'Ranna T'Srrr'Kharh, and I am joining the Flight Contrrrol department as a juniorr officerr."

She turned away from the console to face the Lieutenant. "So, I will be working under you!" Her tail rose in the air in a gesture of respect. "It is being a pleasure to meet you, Lieutenant Rrrrrrall." She held out a paw towards the computer. "I am looking for a good holodeck prrogrram so I can familiarrise myself with the brridge contrrols. Are you knowing of any such program?"

Nenokah couldn't help but grin slightly at the way S'Ranna said her name. "You can simply ask the computer to recreate the Bridge," she said, "That way you can get a feel for the CONN and atmosphere of the Bridge, or maybe create your own scenarios the you can interact with." She shrugged as she leaned against the wall. "Or whatever you want."

S'Ranna wiggled her ears thoughtfully. She had been hoping that the department had some pre-programmed simulations: she was a reasonably proficient holosim writer herself, but she had rarely had to write flight programs before, preferring to create rural landscapes or design hunting simulations, her assignment at the Test Flight Range fulfilling all her needs otherwise. Not for the first time, she reminded herself what a big change the Galileo would be.

"Verry well, Lieutenant Rrrrrral. I will do so: I am just not being used to having to spend so much time waiting arrround. I brrought the Mirrranda rrunabout acrross frrom the Venture this afterrnoon, and it was the first time I had had the chance to fly for severrral weeks!" She swished her tail in evident infuriation. "I am hoping that Lieutenant Mialin will be assigning me some rrreal duties."

Nenokah nodded in understanding. "I had become a little rusty in my piloting skills when I was being transferred from the Lancelot to the Voltaire. When the Lance was called back to Earth I had a lot of free time to wait around before being assigned again. But don't worry," here she gave S'Ranna a reassuring half-grin, "It doesn't take long to come back."

S'Ranna's tail snapped up, her fur bristled, her gold eyes flashed, and her claws shot out. She struggled to recover her composure with a haughty wiggle of her ears, but the fierce scowl remained etched on her whiskery features. "I did not say that I was 'rrrrrusty', Lieutenant Rrrrrral. I merely wanted to make sure that I was fully equipped to handle the Galileo flight contrrol systems when the times comes. Rrrrrusty, humph!"

Other than the raising her eyebrows at the outburst of emotion from S'Ranna, Nenokah's composure remained stoic. "I wasn't implying that they were, Ensign," she said, her voice hardening slightly. "I was speaking of myself. Maybe 'rusty' was too strong of a word to describe either of us, but it can happen to anyone." She tried to remain civil, but she couldn't help but think that the last thing she needed in her department was a hot-headed pilot. She'd had one on board the Voltaire and she wasn't keen on having another.

S'Ranna's fur remained ruffled, but she retracted her claws and lowered her tail. "Verrry well, Lieutenant, I apologise for overrrrreacting," she said, having some difficulty enunciating the word in a spluttering purr. "I will go to the Holodeck to trrry out this computerr simulation now. I hope to see you arrround, and I look forrwarrd to worrking underr you."

The outburst receded from Nenokah, who acknowledged S'Ranna's purred apology with a curt nod of her head. "Very good, Ensign," she said, "Good luck with the simulation." Being a creature of few sentimental or unnecessary words, Nenokah nodded one more time in farewell and continued down the corridor.
