Mission: Episode 03 - Frontier
Location: Rojar II R02 - Metropolis Ruins
Timeline: MD 05 - 1600 hrs

Previously, on R02 General Survey (Part 1)...

Christoph noticed that the survey team was bunching up again. She noticed that Comander Coleman was wearing the viewlink for the arial REMO. She thought, That little device could come in very handing in a Tactical sittuation on the ground. I should check into getting one of those when we get back to the ship.

Donati had no patience for officers and their little aerial tours. The real thing was just up ahead. "We should be able to see the city once we reach the top of the ridge over there," he said insistently, gesturing towards the location in question and then making his way towards it.

Christoph agreed with Donati, but held her ground and tongue, and waited for all of the away team to move up so to secure their rear.

Coleman pulled the device off her head, "Lets continue to move people," she replied as they walked up to the ridge looking down at the city. She turned over to Donati, "Good choice."

And Now, the Conclusion...

As the away team reached the ridge, the treeline fell away abruptly, giving way to a ruined cityscape. Once massive structures crumbled with age, their presence monolithic yet eerily elegant. The faded colors of lost civilization gave way to patches of green, nature reclaiming its world even after so many years.

"Wow..." Donati breathed slowly, his voice getting obviously excited as he started to step forward. "We need to find the center of the city and look for archives or something!" he announced.

Evelyn moved to stand next to Donati, "We will, don't worry." She smiled at the excited officer. She looked around and noticed a gravel path, "Here, lets follow this trail, it might lead down there."

Christoph walked up, finally getting to see the overgrown cityscape. "Yep. A lovely hideaway for a vacation." She turned away facing the jungle again, ever diligent. Then said, "If you thought something might have been in the bush we just walked through, you need to realize that that city down there is more than likely to have some aggressive animals in it."

"With the heavier gravity, they are going to be built for it," Chara added. She'd already adjusted her phaser to a higher than normal level just in case they ran into any trouble. She stopped in front of the rest of the team, toeing the gravel path. "I suggest that we stay together instead of splitting up. There's only two security officers for five people, we would be safer together. Anything we miss can be handled by the detailed survey teams."

Coleman nodded, "Agreed." She pulled out her tricorder, "alright team, lets get moving. I'm sure the other team is getting anxious to beam down, because heaven forbid we use the Galileo's advance sensor system from orbit..."

Resisting the urge to smile, Chara instead nodded abruptly. "Right. Let's get on it. Can that REMO feed be used by other people?" she gestured to Coleman's device. "We can determine the best point of entrance, do a sweep of the perimeter and make our way into the interior concentrically. That way Donati can get to see more and it should be quicker."

That is a great idea. Bree thought, I'll have to tell her later about what a good tactical advantage that can provide. I should also talk to the Chief about getting one for the security department.

"Way ahead of both of you." She winked, "I'm forwarding the feed to both of you, now."

Bree pulled out a small PADD from her left thigh pocket, still holding her rifle with her right hand. She thought, He's such a bright guy. I may have to thank him personally for this. She looked over to to Donati and smiled.

Oblivious to Bree's smile and the talk of that silly REMO device, Donati continued his archaeologically compelled fervor that passed for walking. "This is the greatest archaeological discoveries of the decade," he declared boldly, "The Federation Archaeology Council will want a report, maybe a paper." One could almost see the little thought bubble of excitement popping up over the man's head with a pleased-looking phantasm-Donati inside, lecturing to the prestigious organization's members. He pushed on into the ruined urban jungle.

"You're going to write the paper, huh?" Chara smirked and pulled out her PADD. She got side by side to Christoph and held up her PADD. "Where do you think is the best point of entry?" she asked the senior security officer.

Christoph touched the side of the PADD with her left hand to get a good angle of the image. Calculating in her head the advantages of the structures, layout, and topographical of the area, Cami finally said in a serious tone, "Coming in from the West using the high ground would be best. Probably between these two low structures." She pointed to the left side of the display.

Evelyn looked over the map and listened to the two security officers. "I concur. Lets go." She ordered and started moving.

"Are you expecting to need a tactical advantage?" Amril asked as he walked alongside Evelyn. The vorta seemed to be having just a bit of trouble with his pack, but was not complaining.

"Not really however we have yet to meet any of the indigenous lifeforms on this planet, approaching the city from the higher position will give us a time advantage." Eve rationalized looking at the Vorta officer. "Is that backpack heavy for you?" she asked noticing him adjusting the backpack on his shoulder.

"Oh I'm quite all right," Amril assured her with a quick smile. "A full view of the city will no doubt be useful as well."

Christoph moved away from Chara to check their flank before the away team moved forward. This Vorta bugged Bree. She didn't actually trust him. It wasn't a sense of doom, but more like she felt he had his own agenda. She had been instructed to treat him as any other member of the crew. But, she always felt a need to be cautious around him . . it . . whatever.

As the group approached the city Evelyn was getting more intrigued by the ruins and what maybe lurking there. "Alright, some ground rules, I don't want anyone to walk into any of the large structures until we know for sure they are safe. Don't need any building to collapse on us."

"Archaeology is not a safe science," Donati declared with a sort of zealous piety, like he was reciting the Holy Book of Archaeology, if such a thing existed.

"Nothing is really safe, I understand that, but I rather we all get back home safe." She replied.

They finally reached the city limits and Evelyn looked at the overhead visuals on her tricorder, "Alright... down this path..." She gestured to the rocky road before them, "it leads straight to the heart of the city, I'm guessing a park."

Without a word, Christoph looked at Chara and nodded her head slightly. They moved up as a team taking point into the city; stopping, checking corner, confirming the other's location, moving up. This was repeated many times as they progressed a couple blocks into the overgrown derelict city.

Donati hurried along, hardly willing to wait for the rest of the party. He was like a child in a candy store, every new sight giving him the urge to stop and study it. But he was still a professional and traveled along with the rest of them, restraining himself until they had completed their initial survey.

Amril seemed equally fascinated, although he lacked the excited zeal of the archaeologist. He walked along at a steady pace, observing everything with a curious expression.

Christoph wouldn't have called it a waste of time, but there hadn't been much to see. Going through this delapidated city, all they had come across was a few lizards, flocks of noisy birds overhead, and a mess of pesky insects. She was just glad that they had not come across any violent creatures as on a previous landing party.

The team soon reached the city center, and Evelyn couldn't help but wonder if this was in the end worth it. They were in a heart of a destroyed city, no sign of advance lifeforms and Eve couldn't shake the feeling of wanting to return to the ship. "I don't know about the rest of you but standing around ruins give me the chills."

Christoph looking away, rolled her eyes at the Commander's comment. They had found no threats, no signs of sentient life, and no information to use. That is, besides the kazillian critters running, jumping, and flying.

"Chills of excitement," Donati said. "This is beautiful!"

Evelyn's eyes wonder around, taking in the surrounding environment. Her eyes caught onto a figure in the distance. "What's that?" She asked and walked towards the structure. As she moved closer, her figure became clearer, a statue. The stature was in the shape of a crescent with a sphere in the center of it. "I wonder if this symbol could give us a clue as to the name of the city..."

Christoph began to walk around the perimeter of the statue to secure it. She instructed Chara to go the other direction, with a nod.

The Tellarite shouldered her rifle and took to the opposite side. "Everything looks clear," she said once they'd completed a full circle.

Donati studied the statue, going right up to it and peering at it closely without touching it. "Unlikely," he said, glancing back at Evelyn, "This statue is not very large and it doesn't seem to have any writing on it. It could have been merely decorative. Still... we do not know anything about their language so far. It could be all over and we just haven't realized it yet."

Evelyn looked at him and shrugged her shoulders, "True..." she commented as she looked at the ruins around them. "Just think about it, if the Enterprise had failed all those years ago, Earth would either look like this or completely Borg..." She muttered, shivering at the thought.

Christoph didn't quite understand all of what the Commander was talking about, but the mention of Borg sent a chill up her spine.

Amril seemed to miss the chilling gravity of the commander's idea. "If the borg attacked a long time ago," he observed, "and considering current tactical knowledge of the Borg and their planetary assimilation records, it is most likely that Earth would be abandoned with all of it's major technological centers removed from the face of the planet." He'd never encountered the Borg himself, but the Vorta had read everything Starfleet had available on them.

Bree continued to look around cautiously. Right then a dark shadow came over them. She looked up to see a dark cloud move quickly overhead. It seemed quite low. "We may have some bad weather moving in." She said to the group.

Eve looked over at the direction of the storm clouds and frowned, "Seems we're going to have to call this survey done, unless you all want to feel how different rain falls in this heavier gravity." She smirked, "Donati, since this is your field if you'd like to remain on the planet with the second survey team, by all means..."

"A little rain never hurt an archaeologist," Donati announced, "I will stay and begin a survey of the city layout and identify significant sites to investigate. I could use help from Lieutenant Amril."

"Of course, Mister Donati," Amril replied with a nod of his head, glancing at Eve. "Commander? Perhaps we should report in and arrange the necessary changes to our itinerary?"

Bree said under her breath, "And possibly ask for some rain gear." She walked around the group still checking their perimeter.

Chara followed in the opposite direction and hooked up with Coleman on the other side. "Right. Let's get out of here," she said with a small nod, standing near the place where they would be transported back.

Evelyn tapped her commbadge, =^= Coleman to the Galileo, initial survey is complete, but the weather is changing down here so we'll have to call it short. Lt. Amril and Officer Donati will join Holliday's team. If the weather holds they may need some rain gear. The rest of us are ready to beam to the ship. =^=

Sitting on the bridge of her ship, the captain promptly received the comm message and quickly queued up a weather schematic of the surrounding region on her command console. Sure enough, there was indeed a large storm system approaching the away team's position, and Lirha wholeheartedly agreed with her 2XO's assessment. "Acknowledged, commander." she replied over the channel. "Stand by for transport. We will also be beaming down additional protective gear for your remaining members. Saalm out."

After the group transported away several small brown speckled creatures crawled out to the place the invaders had stood. The six of them sniffed around switching their tails as they went. After a few moments of looking for any signs left from the tall 2 legged invaders, the large one raised his head high, mere inches, and gave out a squak. The group of lizard type creature retreated to the bushes and cracks in the structure near by.
