Mission: Episode 03 - Frontier
Location: USS Galileo - Deck 4, Sickbay
Timeline: MD 04 - 1652 hours

Previously, on "A Flash of the Good Old Days":

Davis watched his Chief, knowing immediately that something was wrong. The way he carried himself, the way he moved, the twisted manner he held his limbs. Then the blank look of fear and pain and - Stone didn't see him. He saw something but not him. He prepared himself, then, for anything and - with a heavy heart - when Stone lunged for him, he brought up the phaser and fired.

Jeremy stilled at the impact, having just several seconds to cognitate on what happened before things went black and he fell - hard - to the floor.

Davis motioned for Smoak to go check on him while he hit his commbadge. "Security to Medical, we've got one patient for you. Aside from anything else wrong, he's been stunned."

And now the conclusion:

[ON]

Davis next ordered a site to site beam out, placing the three of them into Medical. He wasn't sure what was going on, but the stun wouldn't last forever and Davis hoped he wouldn't be needed in the sickbay but he figured he and Smoak better stick around just in case.

When Jeremy Stone materialized on the surgical biobed in Sickbay's Intensive Care Unit, Andreus Kohl couldn't have said he was totally surprised to see the man. Stone hadn't been the only suspect, but he was right up there on the list, given the reports Pola Ni Dhuinn had shared with Kohl since his return. What did surprise Kohl was that Stone was laid out on a biobed and unconscious. That's when Kohl looked up and saw the security officers who were also materializing in Sickbay. "Oh," Kohl said flatly.

Tapping controls on the side of the biobed, the support frame rolled into place over Stone's body, along with a forcefield given Dahe'el's earlier report. Bypassing the puny processing power of a tricorder, Kohl operated the LCARS panel on the support frame to operate the overhead sensor cluster. While the sensors began to provide Kohl with vitals signs about Stone's breathing and circulation, Kohl checked Stone's airway for obstructions. Just in case.

"Describe his behaviour until he lost consciousness," Kohl said to the conscious new arrivals in Sickbay. "And... go." He pointed at one of the security officers, indicating that he should start presently.

"Don't know, Doc," Davis said, "I wasn't there long. But, he looked to be having some sort of spasm. He held his body all twisted up, sort of hunched? And...he wasn't home, you know what I mean?"

"No," Kohl said bluntly, "I don't." His response was deadpan, his expression impassive. Kohl reached for a PADD from an equipment tray, and began typing notes to add to Stone's medical chart. Looking Davis unblinkingly, Kohl said again, "I need you to describe behaviors for me."

"From what we seen, he was incoherent, looked to be in some form of pain, held his body in a twisted way," Davis said, "looked to be dragging his left foot, his left hand was twisted and against his chest. He didn't seem to recognize anyone or anything. And...well, the guy that seemed to start all of this is Cardassian. That mean anything?"

Without looking up from his typing, Kohl replied, "I don't know..." All the while, on the display of the PADD, a notification alarm had started flashing as soon as Kohl accessed Stone's existing medical records to view alongside his new notes. "Hm, but I know someone who does." Kohl tilted his head slightly to speak to the local communication node. "Kohl to Ni Dhuinn. One of your patients have just been beamed to Sickbay. Lieutenant Stone is unconscious."

Ni Dhuinn's Quarters

Lying back in her bed, Pola had just managed to get away from sickbay given her cover of alpha shift. Having just closed her eyes to try have a nap, she resisted the urge to groan as she heard the hail. As soon as she heard the words Stone and unconscious she was back on her feet and already running from the door as she struggled to get her jacket back on and activate her comm badge.

=^=Ni Dhuinn to sickbay, I'm on my way!=^=

Sickbay

In response to Kohl's hail, Pola's voice echoed around sickbay.

=^=Ni Dhuinn to sickbay, I'm on my way=^=

"Much appreciated," Kohl replied. Utilizing the LCARS interface on the support frame, Kohl transferred the sensor readings to the large bulkhead display. Speaking to the open communications channel, Kohl said, "I'm not seeing any pharmacological reasons for his reported behavior."

"Dahe'el doesn't know much more, Doc. He says he saw Stone and then he began acting strangely...well, strange for Stone. Dahe'el says he seemed terrified when he saw him. He's not sure it would be good for him to come down to medical considering what happened. I can have him brought here if you need him though."

"No, that won't be necessary," Kohl replied, but he sounded distracted. He shook his head vaguely as he continued to work the interface for the overhead sensor cluster. He shifted his attentions between the security officer, the sensors, and then his PADD as well. He accessed the medical libraries to assist in the diagnosis. He wouldn't miss any symptoms, not this time, not with Pola over his shoulder. To the comm channel, he reported, "Pola, I'm not seeing symptoms for physical causes of hallucinations either... No sign of pneumonitis, urinary tract infection, decubitus ulcers..." Kohl looked down at Stone, as the man began to move.

Voices floated as he started to become aware again. His body hurt - hurt. So much pain and - he was aware he was on his back and tried to move, tried to roll but he couldn't. He couldn't move! Restrained! His eyes flew open only to be burned by the brightness. He tried to move, tried to struggle to get free but they had him locked down. The light hurt, the light burned his eyes. Too bright...too too bright.

"Please," he begged. "Don't, please no more. Please! I don't know what you want!"

Voices in their gutteral, sibilant language, speaking to him. "I don't know!" Tears leaked from his eyes as he tried to find some shred of mercy, some shred of decency that would stop them from hurting him again. "I wasn't trying to escape! I'm sorry, I'm sorry!" His voice broke on the beg...it wouldn't do any good but that's what they wanted to hear. "I don't know what you want!"

Andreus Kohl had stopped moving as soon as Stone regained consciousness and began pleading with him. Kohl just stood there, and he watched Stone, and he was afraid to do anything that might add to Stone's distress. "Lieutenant Stone," Kohl said, in a soothing tone of voice that demanded nothing of Stone, not even that he listen. "I want you to breathe. The only thing I want is for you to breathe deeply."

Jeremy tried to struggle to get free but the isolation field conformed to his body, keeping him pinned down - painfully twisting limbs already broken and twisted several times over. "I don't understand!" he cried out, nearly choking on the lack of breath. The field gave him just enough room to breathe but other than his head, he couldn't move in any way. "Please...stop...don't do this! No more, please, no more!"

As Pola rushed in through the doors, she immediately heard Jeremy's voice, the distress extremely evident. As she moved across to the side of his biobed, her eyes were drawn to the restraints as she realised what was happening. "Jeremy..Jeremy it's Pola..Listen to my voice, Jeremy, you're safe."

Why was it so bright? So warm? Whatever they did to him this time made it too bright...to warm...he couldn't move. "Ahndyl?" he asked, his voice cracked, tears streaming from his eyes. "They...I...pushed it too far this time," he said, trying to turn toward her faint voice, listen to her through the thick stone walls of their cells. His voice was thin, reedy and labored as he struggled to keep breathing long enough. "I'm...I'm done. It's only time now. They've...I'm sorry, Ahndyl, so sorry. I don't want to leave you. I don't...but...I never should have left you. I'm so sorry," he cried harder. "Forgive me? Please, I'm sorry, I didn't...it hurts so much to just think, so much. I tried. Ahndyl? Please, I'm sorry I'm leaving you alone."

Seeing the tears fall down Jeremy's face, Pola looked over at Kohl with distress in her eyes. "Get the restraints off of him now!" As her eyes scanned across the officer's vitals, she realised that she couldn't risk flooding his body with drugs until he calmed down. Jeremy's heart rate and blood pressure had rocketed from the stress he was under. "Jeremy listen to me...you're safe, I promise that you are safe."

Rounding the biobed to approach the control interface on the other side, Kohl gave Pola a look. He looked her in the eyes to blatantly question her decision -- but he didn't give voice to his concern. He tapped the biobed controls in the correct series that would release Stone. First, the surgical support frame retracted into the biobed, and then the outline of the forcefield shimmered around Stone's body before dissipating completely.

As soon as he could move, he sat straight up, eyes wild and wide as he stared around Medical. Something was...something..."Where's Sidi?" he asked, glancing around, starting to get off the biobed. "Sidi? Where's Sidi? What have I done? Doctor?" he asked, pleading, "Did I hurt someone? Did I hurt...is Sidi? Where's Sidi?"

"I didn't see the dog," Davis said, whispering to Kohl. "Dahe'el didn't mention him, nor did any of the other witnesses. That's strange, because Chief doesn't go anywhere without Sidi at his side. You don't think something could have happened to him? Stone was pretty wild when we came on the scene."

While Pola considered their patient, Kohl moved towards the security officers. He cast one more glance at Stone's vitals before turning his attention to Davis. "Does Sidi wear a combadge?" Kohl asked, implying a plan of action.

Davis looked at Kohl for a few seconds, then, deciding to speak slowly and with careful enunciation to make sure that nothing was missed said: "Sidi's. A. Dog."

Knitting his brown at what he heard as a condescending tone of voice, Kohl stridently replied, "Not for talking. For locating. For transporting. A transponder. Sidi works with Stone, doesn't he?" Glancing at Pola, Kohl said, "I'm sure Jessica told me that?"

As she heard Kohl's questions, Pola's attention was divided between Jeremy and the men. Realising that Sidi might help to calm the Lieutenant, she maintained her contact with Jeremy's arm. "He's got a transponder which I fitted. If you check the database, you should be able to find the signature and track him."

"A transponder?" Jeremy asked, confused. "When did he get a transponder?" He squeezed his eyes closed as he prepared to ask the next question. "What day is it?"

Concerned about Jeremy's confusion, Pola reset the scanner on his biobed as she realigned the configuration of the scans she needed and had the details brought up on her screen. "We are about a day into the Rajor system Jeremy. Can you tell me, do you know where you are?"

Jeremy shook his head. "Medical?" he asked. "Why is...why am I surrounded by security? Doctor, what'd I do? Tell me what I did. Did...Sidi? Did I hurt Sidi?"

Looking over at Kohl, Pola watching and waited to see if he had managed to yet track down the dog in question. "We are looking for Sidi now Jeremy, I am sure he is perfectly fine. Security found you in on of the corridors...do you not remember anything?"

Jeremy scowled. "I remember lots of things," he said. But she...."No, Doctor, we've not arrived at Rojar yet. We're supposed to do that tonight." He reached into his side pocket to pull out his PADD only to find that was missing as well. "Doctor, can I have my PADD back please?" He started to get out of the bed.

Standing behind a freestanding console, Kohl double-checked the information on the display. "I've located Sidi in Lieutenant Stone's quarters," Kohl said. Looking over to Davis, Kohl asked, "Is anyone else in Security trained to handle Sidi?"

"No, sir," Davis said, "And you're not gonna get me to even try to go get that fangball. I heard about how he took down Chief Kiwosk and he hasn't liked me from day one." Davis watched his boss, confused because he still had the PADD worn on his wrist, like he'd taken to since it was given to him by Commander Coleman.

Speaking in a don't-mind-me and go-back-to-what-you-were-doing tone of voice, Kohl said, "I'll see about arranging a site-to-site transport for Sidi..."

"Yeah? Gonna erect a containment field to put around him too?" Davis asked, "Or perhaps you like being a chew toy?"

Kohl acknowledged Davis' question with a look, but he didn't reply. Kohl continued his ministrations on the LCARS panel and turned to watch how Pola was helping Stone.

"Doctor," Stone said, from where he was sitting up on the biobed. "Doctor, I need your help. We need to find my PADD right now."

Knowing that the Lieutenant's PADD was attached to his wrist, Pola was becoming increasing concerned surrounding his behavior. Looking over at Kohl and the security officer, she gritted her teeth at their behavior. "Both of you, locate Sidi using his transponder and get him here. He knows me and he knows Stone so he will be fine. If you don't know how to properly handle a dog then I question why you have access to a phaser."

Turning back to her patient, Pola kept a hold on his arm as she spoke to a nearby nurse, directing her to bring a hypo of haloperidol in order to try treat the evidence of psychosis which Stone was showing.

Kohl intercepted the nurse, and personally took charge of the hypsopray. He set the dosage based on a review of the pharmacology interactions recommendation from the computer, and to ensure the sedative qualities of haloperidol would have full effect. Kohl approached Stone from behind the head of the biobed, and he didn't say anything when he pressed the hypospray applicator to the side of Stone's neck. The palpable tension in Sickbay needed to be released and putting Stone to sleep would do just that. Kohl triggered the hypospray, and it didn't take long at all for Stone to lay back and lose consciousness.

Leaving the patient in Pola's care, Kohl worked his hands over the console beside the biobed "I'm transferring his sensor readings to the medlab to start running some tests," he said, as he strode off in the direction of the laboratory. "We'll get to the figurative bottom of this; we'll get him well."
