615 words; about a 3 minute read

Location: Galileo – Holodeck
Date: MD02

OOC: When we last left Galan, he was on the holodeck remembering what had happened 17 years ago on Cardassia.

And now, the continuation of Galan’s story…

[ON]

=/\= 17 Years Ago =/\=

Year: 2373
Location: Cardassia Prime

Kalar and Luma watched the young Cardassian as he sat by the cave’s entrance. He said he’d take the first watch. Both men had been caught off guard when the young man had surprised the Cardassian troop. His actions had spurred them into action and working together they had subdued the Cardassians. Eelim had surprised them both when he’d gotten everyone to the shuttle and away from the city. They’d flown to the mountain region where they’d gutted the shuttle for supplies and had ditched it in a place where the Cardassian sensors couldn’t penetrate the rock.

The Romulan team had sustained a couple of fractured legs and a dagger wound. The Starfleet team had had the most sever injury. A young Ensign had broken both her legs.

Eelim had carried her the whole way into the cave and had even given up his dose of pain meds to help keep the young woman comfortable. Eelim too had not escaped unscathed. He’d taken a disruptor shot to the shoulder and had had a gash on the leg. They’d given him what aid they could but he wouldn’t take the pain meds. He just bore the pain.

He’d told them that he’d get them to the base of the mountain and there they’d find his family’s summer house. It was a place that he could let them rest a few days while he arranged for their transport off Cardassia.

Kalar made the decision to got up to the kid. “Son, you should rest. At the very least eat.” He handed him a ration pack that they’d scavenged from the shuttle.

He took the food but instead of eating it he split it into three and gave the woman with the broken legs a third and the two injured Romulan’s another third each.

Kalar took the next watch and he watched as Eelim went to the young Ensign with the broken legs. She’d been crying. He sat by her and took her hand.

Kalar and the Bajoran Starfleet officer couldn’t help but overhear as he spoke to her. “It’s going to be alright.”

They watched as he took out a cloth from the pack they scavenged and wiped the girls face. “Don’t cry. I know it hurts but we’ll get you out. I promise you that you will be back home soon.”

Both Kalar and Luma looked at one another surprised by the care this Cardassian was taking.

They spent the night in the cave and in the morning began their trek towards the kid’s summer home.

A long 16 hours of walking, hauling the wounded and the supplies they’d reached their goal with no resistance. True to his word the kid set them up inside and then was gone telling them that he’d be back in a day or two with a way out.

Galan was drawn out of his memory by the chirp of the computer.

=/\= Holodeck time expired. =/\=

He’d asked the computer to notify him when his time was up. Shaking off the memory of the past Galan decided that he’d go home, shower and finally catch some sleep before his shift. He somehow felt that nightmares wouldn’t bother him on this day.
