Playing Catch Up

165 words; about a 1 minute read

Nursing a fresh sunburn, Topher lay in the back of his transport shuttle laying on his back, on a bench. He was reading his latest transfer orders, the USS Galileo. Nova Class. On a mission to set up a colony. Something Topher had had experience in, briefly, in the past. This would have been Command's reasoning from calling him off early from shore leave and reassigning him so quickly.

Moving to the pilot seat, he enquired how long it would be until they arrived and told it would be several hours yet. Taking the chance, since his leave was cut short, he had taken to his pilot and decided to flirt. "Can you not put this thing on auto-pilot and come for a meal or something? Even handsome pilots need a break."

His advance was met with silence. This journey would be a long ride ahead. Returning to the aft quarters, Topher began to plan his next move or a nap. The nap won out.
