Eelim had set up his canvas and paints. Tonight was a good night to paint. He’d loaded his favourite music in his personal files and made his peppermint tea, a beverage he loved while painting. “Computer. Access Eelim music file. Old Earth country music mix. Start with Diamond Rio”

He closed his eyes as the beat of the song Meet in the Middle, a favourite of his, started. He waited until the music built faster and hummed along.

As he began to put paint to canvas he began to sing along.

He’d really gotten into Earth country music from the 1980s to about 2005. Myra had always made fun of him, but there was something about country music that just spoke to him. The simple lyrics, the soul stealing beats fast or slow, he loved it!

Smiling and grooving to the beat Eelim finished the last of the silver touches on the Galileo portrait and started adding the violet and blue to the cloud that he’d painted around the ship.

“Baby I love the way we work it out, that’s what love is all about,” he sang as he added diamond stars to glitter in the dark of the background. He stepped back tilting his head to the right. Smiling he reached for some tea as he assessed the missing colours. The ship practically leapt off the page.

This was what life was all about, painting, singing, tea…

A shuffle to the right, a shuffle to the left, a little spin, more gold outline.

Shuffle left, step back, step forward, spin, and more silver on the ship to make her really shine.

As he danced, sang, painted, he reflected on how much this was a part of his soul and how much pain he’d been in at home, under the disapproving gaze of his father.

He shook his head, no; he wouldn’t let his father spoil this perfect evening.

The soft sounds of Diamond Rio had changed to Alabama with ‘I’m in a hurry to get things done.’

The tea long forgotten Eelim did another spin and more colour filled the canvas, bright purple and smoky blue space clouds, “I’m in a hurry to get things done,” He sang. A few more strokes and the painting would be done.

Several songs later and a couple of hours later he stood back smiling at his work of art. He had just enough time to clean up and get ready for his holodeck time.
