Computer, begin personal log:

There's three days to go before I need to report to dry dock here in San Fran and step back onto that tin can... *sigh*

Nah, I love the ship really. Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer quarters that more resembled the space and luxury I sampled whilst captaining the Gilmore but I'm slowly working my way up the ranks so... tick tock.

I'm glad, actually, in all seriousness. I have to admit, I was somewhat apprehensive when Commodore Saalm approached me to head up the Science team on the Gally. I'm used to the responsibility -- well, Janel was -- but so quickly after losing the Venture... Perhaps maybe a little too soon. But I suppose the distraction will do me good however. It's not like I spent years on the ship, but losing any colleague, long standing or not, is ever so trying.

I have my assistant in place already, and have been sent through a few sample service records for key postings in the department. I have say that I'm pretty impressed. Starfleet has really outdone itself.

I suppose I'd better start packing, anyway. A whole life in a few duffel bags and the open stars beyond... Something tells me that it might be a good assignment.

End personal log
