Captain Jonathan Holliday reporting.

The refits to the Galileo are going well, I am always surprised by the efficiency of the engineers involved in these projects. Our primary systems are virtually brand new after the level of redesign, and the arrival of our new Bridge module fills me with anticipation.
Whilst it is more scientific in nature and reduces the dominance of Security/Tactical, I hope that this is a sign of a less aggressive future mission plan for the Galileo.

Our crew levels continue to change on a daily basis with officers being assigned to and away from the Galileo. I can only hope that during this shore leave we do not find ourselves losing too many hands to other opportunities within the Fleet.
Galileo has become more of a family than I ever thought possible - we are small in number, and each have come to rely on the other. I never thought that I would be in a position to call myself their Captain, but here I am.

I have been adapting to my duties well, a few brief chats with my new XO as well as one of our Counsellors seems to have put to rest several of the demons that I have been wrestling with up until now.

I also met one of our new engineers - a Lieutenant Kita. He seemed....competent, for the most part, a little skittish at times, but nevertheless he seems a decent sort of chap. I'm sure Miss Zaren will run a tight ship from below decks, and I look forward to seeing her perform as our new Chief Engineer.

A note of commendation to my First Officer - she was an extremely effective sounding board during a recent conversation - I can rest assured that I should hopefully avoid making too big an ass of myself on my first week in the big chair.

We have also been joined by a Marine aboard ship, or at least, a former Marine. Whilst I chose the Fleet life for myself, I can see the appeal of the more...aggressive wing of the Federation. Had I not decided I wanted to stay in space for most of my time, then I am sure I could have gone down a similar career path.
With the extra muscle in our Security department, I am sure Lieutenant Rhodes will be grateful for the help.

I have been toying with the idea of heading back to Mars for a couple of days - the last time I visited was before the death of Lieutenant Commander Coleman...she helped the relationship between my father and I immensely and I would hate to see her good work go to waste - her memory does not deserve to be dishonoured with another falling out.
Should the repairs to Galileo continue to go smoothly, I may step off the ship.

On a personal note, I am relieved that Commodore Saalm will be remaining on board. She has been a constant source of guidance and encouragement to me during my tenure as her XO and I hope that I can live up to her expectations as I take over her position. The Commodore will be remaining on board as Mission Adviser, and I have no doubt that I will continue to seek her advice and counsel as we return to space.

End Log.
