Commodore's Log, Stardate 67610.8

Well...I suppose these logs will be of a different nature now that I am no longer in command of Galileo. Shortly after arriving at Earth for an overdue refit and some shore leave, I quickly learned I was being relieved of operational authority of the ship. Admiral Hurin summoned all of our command staff to the Orbital Office Complex to deliver the news, and I think it took everyone by surprise. Commander Holliday--well, now Captain Holliday, is now the new CO, and Commander Blake will serve as his XO. I think both of them will do a fine job, but as with all new commanding officers and executives, they will no doubt have a few growing pains here and there. The admiral was good enough to let me remain onboard the ship to help with the transition, and I look forward to seeing them in action during our next deployment.

Galileo's refits are coming along well. The dockmaster and yard engineers at San Francisco Fleet Yards are doing a very good job so far, and the completion date looks to be on schedule. Along with a new bridge module and an overhauled deck layout, the ship is also getting a new recreational area...a bar/lounge/brewery named Castillo. The idea seems to be very popular with the crew and I cannot say I blame them for wanting more relaxation facilities. I just hope a ship full of scientists can hold their liquor... *Light laugh*

As soon as the ship refits are complete, I will be heading off to Rigel VII with my sister and some of my colleagues. I am very excited to be going back to my homeworld, and I think this is Nesh's first time visiting since she was a baby. I hope she will enjoy the planet and the people...I often worry that she is being assimilated by Human culture. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing, but I feel it is important to remember and participate in our race's heritage.

For now, however, there are many new crew assignments which I must attend to, as well as several task group matters. Starfleet has always felt that I was good at administration, and now they have given me a rather large responsibility which involves coordinating and overseeing the deployments of seven different vessels, Galileo included. It will be a fun change of pace, I suppose, but I can already feel deep down that I will miss sitting in the big chair...

Computer, end log.
