Acting Captain's Log,

With Captain Saalm off the ship, I have taken up the role of Acting Captain until she returns in line with Starfleet protocol.
Whilst I appreciate the chance to get more command experience as the senior-most officer onboard, it is a little challenging juggling two command shifts in one day. I will be glad when the Captain is back and I can get back to my normal duties.

We have recently had several new crew members transfer aboard from the Venture in response to our requests to Starfleet for additional personnel after our last mission. I am pleased to report that so far they seem to be fitting in well, and I have no immediate concerns.

The resources of the Venture, even only partially here, has been invaluable on this mission, with their larger crew complement and science laboratories, I'm sure that Lieutenant Panne and her team will be making great discoveries as this mission proceeds.

I am however a little nervous at the few scant reports I have had come through about the discovery of Borg technology in this system. Whilst it is not overly surprising considering our relatively short distance from their space, it still makes me feel a little less than safe.

In more personal matters - it seems my father, after what seems like a lifetime of being Anti-Starfleet, has found himself in a teaching position at the Academy - nobody was more shocked than I at the idea of him actually contributing to the future of starship crews throughout this quadrant and beyond.

What didn't help however, was his insistence on me taking up the post aboard the Excalibur. Watching the Venture has made me long for a larger ship, and I know that I would do well aboard such a challenging assignment. I still have several days before I need to make my final decision - and whilst I might not agree with following what my father tells me, he may actually be right about getting myself onto a larger posting.

Either way I will be making sure my affairs are in order - if I choose to leave the Galileo, I'll make sure that she is left in as stable a way as when I first found her.

End log.
