Personal Log - 007 - Back to the Black

ON:

There is an human saying, that any landing you can walk away from is a good one. The crash landing on Vega Colony was spectacular to say the least. It took several weeks for Star Fleet engineers and with some help from workers from the Vega Colony to repair the Galileo. The redesign of the Bridge was a big plus.

The time here on Vega was enjoyed by the crew. Some more than others. Some of my time was spent with Ensign Cho. A picnic of sorts had produced an adventure where a relic from 100 turns past was identified. The Vegans seemed to appreciate the find, though I was disappointed in not being able to keep the small Romulan sword that I had found. However, Kiri surprised me by having a the sword replicated and presented to me as a gift. I appreciate the sentament and the item very much.

Unfortunately, it seems that the friendship that I have shown to Kiri, may have made her feel . . . well more inclined to be attracted to me. I do not have the same feelings for her, but I must be very careful that I do not reject her friendship totally, yet help her through the process.

More calamity occurred when Kiri was captured by the intruders onto the Galileo. We were all very lucky to get through that incident.

But I can not say the same about our new Chief of Security Lt. Stone. His initial and subsequent decisions have caused conflict and confusion among the crew. My initial reaction was to believe that he was not mentally stable. Yet, he soon showed me, through a ruse, that I he was more capable that I had first given him credit.

The return to space had been as spectacular as expected. Theron remembered parts of a poem he had heard as a boy:

Blackness is our friend.
It surrounds us and fills the void between things that are important to us.
We should not be afraid of the blackness,
just try to understandand . . .

Blackness is our friend.
It is always there.
We can depend on it.
We can always go to it.

Blackness is our friend.
It is everywhere.
Even between the electrons and protons there is blackness.
It is the glue that holds the universe together.

Blackness is our friend. Like the vast oceans of the world, they seem
endless and empty.
But the opposite is the truth.
Blackness is full of life, if you know where to look.
Blackness is the birthplace of all life.
Blackness is our friend.
