Captain's Log, Stardate 67074.7

We have just arrived at Starbase 185 and are beginning preparations for our latest assignment, a system survey of the newly-discovered Rojar system. I received the details of the mission back on Vega colony, but did not fully anticipate how big of a find this could turn out to be. By all intensive purposes, the Rojar system contains a diverse set of planetary bodies and there is much hope from Fleet Command that we can find not one, but multiple habitable worlds for colonization. In addition, several valuable resource deposits may be present which would further add to the value of this star system. Galileo will be working with USS Venture to explore and secure the surrounding areas, and I have also been informed that a Press Corps team will be assigned to my ship. While I am hesitant to have them on board due to their sometimes-distracting nature, I also see them as an opportunity to proudly present my crew and our specialized work to the rest of the UFP.

Despite some fleeting apprehensions, it is good to be back in space again...although I'm sure there are some of my crew who would have liked to stay on Vega colony a while longer. Personally, I enjoyed the brief shore leave that we were given, and I think many of the crew have finally been able to relax and calm their nerves following the perilous nature of our first mission. There are many new faces on the ship now, as well as old familiar ones, and it has been interesting to see how the crew has been adjusting to each other. In addition to having Amril aboard as Starfleet's first permanent Vorta operations chief, there is also a new Chief of Security named Lieutenant Stone, two new science chiefs, Lieutenants Panne and Pendleton, and numerous other new officers and enlisted crew.

Speaking of Lieutenant Stone...he is a man with a complicated past who leaves me with serious doubts about his ability to perform his duties. He is ill-mannered, abrasive, sometimes disrespectful, and not very good in social settings. He has already placed several of my crew in the brig for minor infractions since he has come aboard, and I was forced to relieve him of duty two days ago following an inappropriate display of conduct in my ready room. Needless to say, I cannot have anymore disruptions on my ship such as the ones which have recently been taking place, and I will unfortunately do whatever is necessary to reassign him if he is not able to acclimate and adjust his attitude over the coming days. Our ship is small and close-knit, and dissension can rapidly spread aboard such a confined vessel.

On a more personal note, I am sad to part ways with Captain Moore, the freighter captain who graciously towed my damaged ship to the safety of Vega Colony. I was fortunate enough to be able to spend some time with her during shore leave, and I found her to be very...stimulating. She is a civilian and comes from a trading background similar to the rest of my family, and I see many aspects of myself in her when we talked. It is not often that I get the chance to meet fellow traders, and I find her to be a refreshing reminder of the opportunities available to any individual who is motivated enough. I hope to be able to speak with her again soon.

We will be departing Starbase 185 shortly after we have conducted our mission briefing and loaded additional probe ordinance onto the ship. This sector of space is isolated far from the rest of the fleet, and I will be happy to get on with our assignment as soon as all of our preparations are complete.

Computer, end log.
