USS Galileo-A - Deck 3, Senior Conn Officer's Quarters
MD 03, 0530 hrs

[ON]

The alarm went off to the scene of the Senior Conn Officer already laying awake in his bed, his eyes staring up at a darkened ceiling. Rafe generally woke up before his alarm went off. He rolled over and turned the alarm off and sat up. His mind was already going through the days ahead, particularly today, hour by hour. His new fly-girl would begin her training today, at least the way he wanted things handled as a flight officer on this ship.

"Computer, begin personal log."

The computer responded in kind and began recording.

"The captain and I have high hopes for Chief Warrant Officer 2nd Class Kalliste Bacri. At least, based on her record we do. It seemed as though she wasn't taking our initial meeting with the necessary weight it deserved. She seemed almost flippant, nonchalant. I am, however, reserving judgement as I do not know what her personality is like and I want to give her the benefit of the doubt. I will see how she does today, how she handles PT, how she handles instruction, remembering key pieces of information given in passing as if they are not important to see if she pays attention.

Her record shows she is bright or she wouldn't have received this assignment. However, I get the feeling she almost doesn't want it or doesn't want to be here, in this part of the galaxy. Well, serving Starfleet for the greater good doesn't always involve warm and fuzzies. It does involve duty, honor, excellence, and selflessness. I am anxious to see how strong is her mettle. How does she handle exhaustion, stress, even torture, within certain safety factors? I will test her on these things and she better perform. The last thing I need is another CS31-type situation to happen and my colleague not be able to have my back."

Rafe got up and walked to the mirror in his bathroom as he called for the lights to illuminate at 30%. "I will not let that happen! Computer, end personal log."
