Getting Back to Normal--If There Is Such a Thing

Posted on 31 May 2018 @ 5:13am by Commander Marisa Wyatt

401 words; about a 2 minute read

Marisa paced back and forth in her small room on the USS Schofield. She'd been pondering various options to deal with Miraj's situation ever since her interview with Captain Saalm, but she still wasn't sure what the best course of action would be. She didn't want to rush into anything and find herself in trouble with her friend or her new boss.

She understood how Miraj felt about bullying a commander into letting her have an interview, as she felt much the same, but she also knew there had to be a way to get around the situation, just as she had. Well, she hadn't. Commander Ban had. She wouldn't be here if it hadn't been for his intervention. Maybe she could talk to him about Miraj? Surely he'd help out again?

Thinking of Commander Ban reminded her of the fish. They were as much his idea as they were hers, and she was eager to see how they worked out once the tanks were installed--and to see what he thought of the results of their conversation.

When they got back, she'd approach him. But until then, she still had to figure out how to approach Miraj, who was still a little hesitant to talk to her after their encounter with the killer android.

So many things she wanted to do right now. She was not usually impatient, but she wanted to hurry back to the Galileo and test out the fish tanks. At the same time, she was fascinated with the pyramid and what it meant to the inhabitants of the planet. Imagine, finding an ancient technological edifice on a pre-warp planet. She'd read of such things happening, but never thought she'd actually see one.

And the science…she would spend the next month studying the data on the sun and how the pyramid and its tech affected the solar flares. Then see what Starfleet could learn from it. And she would work on the language in case they ever ran into any alien artifacts or technology.

A bright smile spread across her face. It felt good to be excited about her work again. There was still some lingering anger over the events on Kreanus, but she was finally beginning to heal and it felt good. She was eager to see where this new phase in her life led her.
