The Bay - Personal Log

Posted on 30 May 2018 @ 4:19am by Commander Aren Ban

449 words; about a 2 minute read

Aren couldn’t help but look out over the Bay of San Francisco. The marine layer that was known to dominate the area in the early mornings was just beginning to lift and clear, showing the beginnings of what would be a beautiful day. The scene reminded him of where he grew up on Trill, where a large inlet bay gave way to vast ocean. As he absorbed the view, he couldn’t remember a time where he really and truly enjoyed actually just sitting and taking in a view.

Growing up he felt as if he had spent too much of his childhood with his head in some book or another, studying or reading. When was the last time had he visited Aldar Bay? A decade, or was it 10 years? Hadn’t he spent most of that time trying to impress that girl? What had she said when I asked her out, not on your life? That was before Jarel had passed away. He thought, smiling slightly at the memory. Aren couldn’t remember the last time he had been around such stillness; it gave him time to reflect. So much had happened since he had left his home on Trill, and even more in the last year. It had only been a couple of days since accepting the position aboard the Galileo and he had already hit the ground running. His most recent task was back on Earth for a full briefing on the ship and its upcoming mission assignments.

He had a several scheduled meetings in addition to briefings about the ship. If Aren was honest with himself, he was looking forward to meeting with a prospective chief science officer, and a friend. Like the clouds that drifted in the bay, so too did his mind drift to his most recent on-boarding. What an interesting individual. He thought. He wondered how Lieutenant Commander Wyatt would integrate someone of her caliber into his team, not to mention the other department heads. How long would the growing pains last within the crew? Many were new, while others we part of the original crew, would there be residual resentment from those that were there first?

A soft chirp from his PADD pulled him out of his reverie. He felt as if he had endless to attend before he would make it back to Avendale, not to mention that he had a pending list of crewman and officers that he still needed to speak with. “We will make it work.” He said allowed as he made a mental note to see about arranging use of a Holo-communicator during his return voyage back from Earth.
