Personal Log 8 - Problems

368 words; about a 2 minute read

"Computer start log." Aren said looking into the computer screen.

“First I would like to report that I am in good health, and in fairly good spirits. It has been a month since I have assumed my duties as executive officer. I will admit that that the quantity of the work that has been put before me well exceeds any expectation that I had, considering that the ship isn’t even out of space dock yet. One of the most recent issues that we dealt with was trying to track down a problem with the control circuits that connected main power to the primary sensor array. The problem appears to have been some of the control circuits weren’t properly checked before installing them. When we conducted a stress test of the unit, we had numerous leads blow, as well as the system drawing too much power and nearly we lost the array. We managed to save it but had to replace what feels like a deck worth of conduits and are rechecking all the control circuits to major systems, manually. It has taken a lot of man-hours for that project.”

Aren reached for a cup of coffee just outside of the visual range of the computer and took a small sip before continuing. “The number of technical glitches are lessening, and are still on track for departure date. She is a stout little vessel and, like the captain, I am looking forward to getting her underway. We are all but complete and are just getting the final approvals as well as rounding off the crew. Our chief of Operations and Engineering recently rescinded their applications. One seemed to have had second thoughts about the expected length of deployment and what that would be mean for his family, and the other accepted a planet-side assignment. It has been a challenge to say the least trying to fill those roles in time for our shakedown cruise.”

“We are hoping to have those positions filled, though we might just have to run short for a short time. It is not ideal but when are things ever?” He said with a little laugh. “That is all for now, Computer End Log."
