545 words; about a 3 minute read

Aren smiled. "That isn't a fair question to ask. Computers were, are my specialty. It was something that I can honestly say I had a natural affinity towards." He said answering truthfully. "But that doesn't mean that I, know everything. There are times that cadets, like your self, help me approach a lecture, or a problem differently. Just because I am very proficient doesn't mean that sometimes I don't make errors myself. And there are other subjects that I really struggled with, and really had to work at in order to understand them. Part of being an officer is knowing your own weakness's and strengths, as well as those under your command and implementing them efficiently."

"Sensor systems are definitely my weakness," the cadet sighed. "I'd rather deal with EPS conduiting. It may fry you crispy if you get it wrong, but at least its simple. It only needs a bit of respect, not advanced degrees in mathematics and a working knowledge of knots and hitches." She waved a hand at the model bundle on screen. "That thing is just too impossible."

Aren studied the cadet for a moment. "I have never believed that or come across a problem that was impossible. There are ways that lead to everything, one just needs to apply sufficient will and to take chances. Learn what works and what doesn't, as you said before, 'More haste, less speed.' Saying it is impossible often is an excuse. I know that you can do the work, you just showed me you can. Somethings are going to come naturally and others, not so much." He said, before pausing a moment. He stood slowly and ran his hand over a spin of a book, before plucking it from the shelf.

Aren set the book down and opened to page that had a similar yet different schematic. Yet the printed schematic had colored arrows and hand written notes, often with page numbers associated with it, not to mention there were small acronyms listed for each connection type. "I printed the tech manual and had it bound, it made it a bit easier for me to visual and make notes then doing it on a PADD." He said as he pushed the opened book to her. "This is what I had to do to learn this. My other courses are similar." He said with a smile.

"Wow. That's... a really good idea." Neaera's eyes widened in surprise as she realised the possibilities. Padds had their uses, but this might actually be easier. And she wouldn't have to worry about saving changes. "I'd never thought of that." She picked it up. It must have weighed three kilos, ten times what a padd would weigh, but so much easier to flick through. "I'm going to have to replicate my own once I get home. Thank you?" She beamed at him, a bright relaxed smile of genuine gratitude.

Aren smiled warmly. "You are very welcome. I always found something tangible and in my hands was much easier to work with than looking at a screen." He said happily.

"Getting down and dirty is more satisfying." She agreed. Then she put the book down. "Thank you, again. For your time and patience."
