Dea entered the shuttlebay. Glancing around at the few aux craft sitting there. They had a lot to do and the flight department would be busy. Already she'd put together a preliminary flight roster with room to tweak it if needed.
Quinn was half in, half out of a shuttle access panel. There was a toll kit laying open on a small portable tray next to the COB and his free hand was blindly searching for a tool, but not able to find it.
"Can I help you find something Chief?" Dea called out as she approached Quinn's location. It wasn't her intention to startle him but she could see he was having trouble finding a tool.
Quinn jumped at the sound of the voice. Looking out from under an arm he smiled through a grease plotted face. "Hello, ma'am. I was looking for a number three adapter to a plasma torch. It was right here, or there...I thought. The shuttles carbon inducing filter needed swapping, so I figured it'd give me a little project to do, since engineering is so busy."
Dea approached the array of tools seeing the one he was looking for just out of reach. Sliding it over to Quinn, "Here it is. The help is greatly appreciated. I like to keep my hands into the maintenance side of things when I can but I'm snowed under with several other things given our mission orders."
Quinn graciously accepted the item. "I know what you mean. This is my relaxation time." Quinn exited the panel and closed it with a greasy smile. "There we go. So, ma'am. What do you think about the new mission and the system they found?"
"I think we're honestly treading into unknown territory here," Dea paused responding seriously, "It has great potential for some amazing scientific discoveries. Yet it also has the potential to go terribly wrong."
"Yeah, it's the terribly wrong scenario that can be a real kick in the nuts, Lieutenant." replied Quinn with a chuckle. "However, it will be nice to get some real exploring done for a change...I just hope it won't involve us being slung through a temporal matrix halfway across the quadrant again."
Dea nodded with a smile of her own, "I'm right there with you on that one. Honestly I'm not keen on the idea of having another major flight systems failure due to experimental technology so soon after our last one."
Quinn wiped his hands on his pants. "I was thinking that we should have a game plan set up for if, and or when the issue arises that we need to use the shuttles for not only the assigned transport, but for emergency use as well."
"Agreed, we've got limited resources as far as shuttles go. So its even more important that we make efficient use of them for exploration as well as emergency situations," Dea paused then turned to Quinn, "Do you have any suggestions?"
"Well, we could rip out some unneeded stuff, like lockers and replicators and the like. That would not only free up some weight, but allow us to either stow more cargo, or transport personnel."
With a nod Dea pulled out a PADD to take a few notes. "Yeah that's a good place to start. We can work from there. I have a few other things I need to check on. If you need anything you know where to find me."
"Yes, Lieutenant. Thank-you." answered Quinn. "I'll be sure to get it done ASAP."
Dea nodded as she turned to leave, "Thank you Chief your assistance is appreciated."
