Sitting in her ready room, Lirha repeatedly tapped the small box sitting on her desk with her fingers. Galileo was now underway to Starbase 185, albeit after a slightly delayed departure, but everything had been smoothed out and now the Nova Class was streaking along at high warp through the vastness of space. While the crew could relax for the time being, Lirha unfortunately had a few housekeeping items to take care of.

Tapping her commbadge, the captain summoned her flight control chief to her private office. "Lieutenant Mialin, please report to my ready room." she said in a soft voice.

Surprised to hear the Captain summoning her Dea requested a replacement. It didn't take long for the other flight control officer to arrive. Getting up from her station she headed for the Ready Room. Even though Captain Saalm was expecting her so Dea entered after making her presence known by the door chime. It had become a habit. Once inside Dea came to attention, "Lieutenant Mialin reporting as ordered Captain."

Watching as her dark-haired flight controller entered the room, Lirha gave her a small smile and a polite nod, yet declined to offer the woman a seat. She had other plans for her which required her to remain standing for the time being. "Miss Mialin," she began, "I've been looking over my XO's recent senior staff performance review, and I noticed that he has had a number of positive things to say about you and your conduct aboard Galileo..." she said, her voice trailing off as she held the woman's gaze.

Honestly Dea was pleased to hear the compliment but had no idea where this conversation was headed so she kept her response simple. "Thank you Ma'am."

"Don't thank me just yet, those were Commander Holliday's observations." Lirha replied with a subtle shake of her head, then continued with her own assessment. "As for myself..." she paused for a long moment to indicate that she might be displeased in some way, "I...have to agree with him, completely." she finished, suddenly displaying a wry smile. "Your conduct has been impressive and representative of everything which Galileo stands for, and your actions at the helm over the past several weeks have saved us from what I would tentatively call 'certain death'."

Lirha then stood from her seat and came around the side of the desk until she stood in front of the Trill woman, bringing the small box with her. "Therefore, in light of your recent actions, I am hereby promoting you to the rank of full lieutenant, along with all the rights and privileges to accompany it." she said with an even bigger smile, then opened the small box in her hand and removed the solid rank pip contained inside.

Reaching up with delicate green hands, she removed Dea's hollow pip and replaced it with the new, solid gold one, making sure to adjust it properly so that it fit perfectly according to Starfleet regulations. "Congratulations, Lieutenant Mialin." she said, then offered her hand for the woman to shake.

"Thank you Captain," Dea replied as a smile appeared. Being promoted was not the reason she had expected for the meeting with Lirha. It happened to be a good way to start off her return to duty. Shaking the Captain's hand.

"Don't thank me, lieutenant...you have earned your promotion through your hard work and competency. And, in the future, I expect to see more of the same from you." Lirha replied, giving the fellow red-collared woman a curt nod of approval.

Dea nodded, "Of course Captain. Its the same thing I expect of my Flight Control officers." She paused then continued, "You've accrued a great group of people onboard Galileo it's an honor to be a member of this crew."

Dea's words were comforting to Lirha. It was always pleasant to know that her department heads ran a strong team, and the lieutenant seemed quite capable of meeting the challenge. "Excellent, and thank you...I'm grateful to have you on board." the captain replied. "If there is nothing else, you're dismissed...lieutenant." she said, emphasizing the new rank which had just been given to her.

With a nod Dea replied, "No I have nothing else." Unable to hide the smile on her face as she turned to leave. Mialin exited the ready room and returned to her station.
