Mission: Episode 17 - Crystal of Life
Location: Sickbay
Timeline: During 'third battle for Latari part 1'

ON:

Slowly and somewhat uncomfortably Mimi made her way through the damaged corridors of the Galileo towards sickbay, the Padd Jeysa had given her cradled under her arm. The quiet thrum of machinery and power cycling through the ship that her hearing would usually pick up was still being overpowered by the constant noise in her head.

Eventually she reached sickbay and passed through the doors.

Allyndra heard the distinctive sound of the sickbay doors and peered out to see what was going on. She spotted Mimi and got up and went out.
"Mimi how are you?" she said.

Mimi smiled at Allyndra when she saw her approach, she was glad the Akkadian wasn't hurt from any of the fighting. Taking the Padd from under her arm she showed it to her. 'the Tholian scanning beam has damaged Mimi's hearing, she appears to be deaf.'

Allyndra was curious as to why Mimi had not said anything but just handed her a PaDD. She read it and nodded. She then made a motion with her hands toward one of the beds and typed on the PaDD quickly, "Let's have a look and see what has happened."

After reading the Padd Mimi nodded slightly and headed for the biobed, sitting on it with her feet dangling off the edge she took the Padd and typed out a message. 'This is a very odd feeling Allyndra.'

"I would imagine," Allyndra typed back. "Probably affecting your balance centres as well. Alright let's take a peek shall we?" She realized she would have to tap that out on the PaDD

Mimi nodded turning her ear towards Allyndra and trying to keep them as straight as possible.

Taking a portable scanner she did the scan of the sensitive ears and looked at the readings as she did so. Ear drums definitely needed repair but luckily it appeared that balance organs seemed to be working properly and showed no real sign of damage.

Allyndra got a PaDD and typed. "Good news, balance looks unaffected, bad news and not really too bad, I need to repair your ear drums. Tissue repair probe but it is going to feel funny going down the canal."

'Ok, I am ready' Mimi typed out, she was worried though, while the outsides of her ears were sensitive, in a good way. The insides of them were very sensitive, in a not good way.

Allyndra tilted her head slightly. Slowly she inserted the probe which also had a light. She tried to avoid the very sensitive hairs at the entrance but it was not to be completely avoided.

Unconsciously Mimi shied away from the probe as it slowly made its way down her ear, she was trying to keep her head still but it was very uncomfortable. "ahhh, ow."

"Sorry, almost there please try to hold still," Allyndra asked gently. She figured this was not the best but she could see the ruptured drum. "Now a little bit of tickle and again, try to hold still. The regenerator hummed and she could see the tissue begin to heal. The hum was probably going to drive Mimi crazy as the drum healed but there was nothing to do for it unless she put Mimi under general. At least this way, she could get immediate feedback if the healing was working effectively.

Painfully slowly some of the ringing in the first of Mimi's ears started to lessen, it was only a slight change but she picked it up. She smiled slightly trying to show Allyndra it was having an effect.

"Ah there we go, think you can handle the other ear?" Allyndra asked.

Mimi looked up to Allyndra and motioned to her other ear having partially heard some of what she had said.

Allyndra nodded and went to the other side. "Alright," she said gently. "Here we go, a bit of discomfort again."

Bracing herself for more odd feelings Mimi held the sides of the biobed increasingly tightly as the probe slowly moved down her ear.

"Alright here we go," Allyndra repeated the procedure trying to be even more careful.

"The ringing is getting quieter." Mimi said quite loudly. "It is working."

Allyndra nodded a little. She needed to be careful but finally the procedure was finished. "There," she said gently. "That part is done, you can relax a little now." She noted the tension in Mimi.

"Now then, I am also going to prescribe some medication that should help. I want you to follow up with me in a week, sooner if things seem to not be getting better."

"Can I go back to work now or do I need to take some time?" Given the circumstances she'd just left on the bridge she wanted to head back but a partialy deafened officer could be a hinderance.

"I am going to indicate reduced duty. If you need full time off then more than happy to put that there, but think you would get bored with just not having too much to do," Allyndra chuckled a little.

Mimi smiled slightly glad she wasn't being made to sit 'off sick' while she might be needed. "Thank you Allyndra." Carefully Mimi dropped off the bio bed.

"Very good, don't over do it." She waved as the Nekomi headed out.

"I'll try." Mimi said, again quite loudly as she passed back through the doors, she hoped the other injured crew she'd seen in there would recover though she could already see a couple covered in shrouds.
