Mission: Episode 17 - Crystal of Life
Location: Latari A III, High Orbit
Timeline: MD 04, 2331 hrs

Previously, on Shockwave (Part 3)...

The data from the successful strike could hold the key to the engagement so Sofie was over it looking for something to indicate the cause of such a success when another signal came onto the Sensor field. "Another ship approaching." She called out "Its moving quickly, it'll be here in less than a minute."

"Tholian?" Asked the captain.

The Vulcan operation officer responded "Its a Federation signal sir."

The signal was definitely a smaller Federation ship, but it took a moment for Sofie to correctly identify it. "Its Vincenzo one of Galileo's support craft." She may have sounded slightly bemused - she had hardly thought about that team in days, part of her had assumed they had been lost as well.

"Arrival in 20 seconds sir." Reported the Vulcan.

"So this support craft, its has some weapons right?" The captain wryly joked as the small shuttle faded onto the tactical display.

And Now, the Continuation...

Latari A III

The tricobalt shockwave continued to expand until it breached the upper atmosphere and disintegrated the planet's cloud layers. USS Galileo was tossed around like a small yacht caught in rolling ocean swells, but as the air thinned and transitioned into space, the turbulent ride started to fade. The Nova-class stabilized on a constant escape vector and the trembling of the deck plating began to subside.

On the bridge's main viewscreen, the ship traveled through the planet's volcanic cloud cover and now the bright blackness of space and the distant Mutara Nebula encompassed the large screen.

Sylver wasn't exactly sweating but it was clear that when the shockwave dissipated around them that the former Marine NCO let some of his feeling crack through the facade. He double checked something, but the movement of the ship told him everything he needed to know. He turned his head, eyes dark, but there was a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "Sir, we are clear of the shockwave. Repeat...clear of the shockwave..." he sat back and tapped the side of his console. "We are still only on thrusters but we are clear of the shockwave." And secretly, he sent a small thank you to the Heavens for it.

Mimi smiled though it was dulled by the throbbing pain in her hand, she'd never been happy to see the blackness of space and the stars before now. "Hull pressure and temperature are decreasing, returning to normal levels. Stuctural integrity is stable"

Looking crumpled in the Captain's seat at an odd angle, Commander Andreus Kohl had lost all semblance of composure. His chest was rising and falling on quick, shallow breaths. All the while, his hands still clutched his armrests for dear life, and he had one knee bent in close to his chest, with his boot up on the seatpan of his chair. Kohl only managed to loosen his death-grip on one armrest to run his hand through his sweaty hair. His hand slid back to rub the back of his neck, when he said, "Miraculous work! All of you."

They were alive. Jemima was both surprised and relieved. Her knees were shaking so badly she had to hold on to her console and closed her eyes until she calmed down.

Goldie Brown stared at her console, focusing on the data until she could fully process what just happened. That was close. Too close.

"I'm going to need a trip to Riza after the pounding my body is taking!" Luke grumbled to no one in particular as he once again removed himself from the floor, "Lets have a report across the board. Engineering, Medical, Ops." he asked through the reports had already started coming in.

Touching a communication toggle on his small command console, Kohl opened a comm channel to Main Engineering. "Engineering, this is the Bridge," he said, tilting his chin up; "How bad does it look down there? When can we expect main power to resume?"

=^=PO Hollenday, Engineering to bridge, impulse power coming back on, but take it easy if possible, got all sorts of bypasses going. Shields should be coming up as that power comes on but again, nothing full strength. Dampners should be coming back pretty soon as well.=^=

In about as elated a manner as he had demonstrated since boarding the ship, Kohl cried out, "I could kiss you. Fantastic work!" --He cleared his throat, and he added-- "I won't keep you. Bridge out."

It helped that one could fly. While the lifts were out, Allyndra made her way through the tubes but the transport pod was stuck at the bridge. That meant getting above it and then coming down through the access hatch in the top. Luckily there was enough room to hover and get that hatch up and then drop down. The manual door release and then the scene on the bridge revealed itself. There were people still at stations and some laying in various spots on the floor.

As Kohl turned slightly she just nodded scanning the area and especially those still on the floor and not moving. Her eyes rested on Plumeri and noticed the spreading pool of blood. That put her in motion. A quick scan told her all she needed to know. He was in very bad shape with shrapnel embedded and having gone through. There was nothing she could do. "I need a site to site transport if possible to sickbay for this man."

Andreus Kohl dragged his gaze across the Bridge, following where Allyndra pulled focus. As soon as Kohl's field of vision settled on Plumeri's bloody body, the breath caught in Kohl's throat. Unblinkingly, Kohl swallowed hard, and he said, "Do it." Kohl tilted his head in Allyndra's direction. Years ago, Kohl had served as Galileo's an Acting Chief Medical Officer, and Allyndra had been assigned by Starfleet to replace him. She had never given him reason to question that decision. "I'm thanking all the gods you're still here, watching over this ship," Kohl told her with great fondness shining through.

=^=Allyndra to sickbay. Incoming site to site, highly injured.=^=

"Transporters are offline," Mimi called out, "I think I can get one back, it might take a minute." She tapped at the ops console with her good hand. "ok, here we go."

Plumeri's body flickered a few time as the transporter took a hold of him and began to dematerialise him, after a little bit of tweaking from Mimi it stabilised and he disappeared from the bridge.

"Dr, I could use your help, I am sure my hand is broken." Mimi told Allyndra.

Allyndra watched the body disappear for a moment before going back to her survey. Somethings she could handle others not so well. Mimi's mention caught her attention. She moved over and ran the scanner over the hand and nodded. "Third and fourth metacarpals, the rest is mostly strain. Here," she switched to a portable tissue device and began to run it over the hand. "This will get things started but try not to use it much until we can get you to sickbay."

"Thank you." Mimi gave Allyndra a small smile.

Here next patient was going to be Sylver. It was not just the laceration but the bruising on the face and swelling. She needed to check if he had any concussion. Ribs and the rest were nasty and hurt but head trauma put higher priority. It was a mess, but she was trying to figure out whom to get to next. Luke was probably the next on the list.

"Alright Officer Sylver," she said. "I want you to follow my finger with your eyes please." She began to do that while scanning with the other hand. "Good news is you do not have a concussion. I am going to take that bit of metal out here and then do some tissue healing. We need you on your toes so minimal pain relief so the removal is going to hurt a bit. Ready?

"Yes ma'am," Sylver said as he glanced at her for a moment before he looked at his console. His hands kept moving, checking what he could check. He wasn't unaccustomed to fast fixes and patchwork healing. He had been to war after all. But it had been awhile and he had to stop flinching when he felt her touch the wound. But instead, he gave himself a mental Sitrep on what had happened. He judged his own actions as he went through it all, where he could have made a different choice...mulling it over to drown out the doctor with her hands too close to his painful face, yet his eyes were on his console and his hands still moving to double check the status of the ship to the level that his post required.

Allyndra gently teased the small bit out and then dabbed and began to heal the wound. The bruising she could deal with later, it was not going to be pleasant but there were others that need to be cared for. Priorities, priorities her mind kept telling her.

"I will come back to that bruising but nothing to worry about other than it is going to hurt for a bit."

"I can handle it, Ma'am...once a Marine, always a Marine..." Sylver said lightly, swallowing, his features pale except for when the bruising was showing. But he kept working, pushing past the pain and the buzzing in his head. He had a job to do and while he could still focus and do a good job, he would do it.

The next patient on her mental list would be Diego. He had bits and cuts. A quick examination told her nothing too dangerous but bruising along the rib area and some cuts and bits like Sylver. This was going to take more time and she needed to get on to the rest to examine.

She turned to Kohl. "If you can spare this man, I would like to send him to sickbay."

The Lagrange security officer was trying to reboot his console when he heard the winged doctor recommend a journey to the ship's medical center. His back throbbed with pain and was damp with blood, but he'd become somewhat numb to the sensation by now and considered it tolerable given the current circumstances.

"I'm fine, doctor," he interjected on his own behalf. "Just fix me up here. Lagrange and Kali are still fighting in high orbit." Diego didn't want to abandon his station in the middle of the most intense battle he'd ever participated in.

"Alright, but this is going to hurt a bit. I need to get some of that out to stop the bleeding," Allyndra shook her head. She got to work. At least the medkit had what amounted to a small tractor beam. The days of forceps being long gone. As she worked with getting a bit of shallow stuff out with one hand, she could use the healer with the other.

Diego winced and stiffened his back when the surgical instrument slowly extracted a three-inch jagged piece of shrapnel from below his left shoulder blade. The piece of engineering console debris made an audible squish when it was finally removed from his body, and blood started to pour from the open wound.

Allyndra slapped a hand and pressed to staunch the flow while she got the regenerator in the other and began to heal up the wound. It took a few moments but at least he was not going to bleed out. "Alright, no more somersaults on the bridge, doctor's orders," she quipped at him.

"..Yes ma'am.." he replied through ground teeth. "Tell that to the Tholians, now."

The next on her list was Luke. From here other than bruising he did not look to bad but he was holding his side. That meant either bruising or worse. She looked her left hand a moment with Diego's blood on it and sort of turning to hide, licked it mostly clean. It had that high metallic taste to it almost bitter. Waving her fingers for a moment she made her way over to Luke.

"Ribs?" she asked as she got the scanner going.

Luke nodded, "Ribs" The acting Executive officer knew better to try to bat of the medical personal, after all, they were just trying to do their jobs instead he asked, "How are we looking, ship-wide I mean?" The question was something ever-present in his mind and if the bridge was in the state it was in he couldn't imagine anywhere else was much better.

Allyndra nodded. She did a simple scan and noted some crack fractures along the fourth, fifth and sixth right ribs along with attendant bruising. "Alight, I can fix this with what I have. As you your question, I am not sure but I would imagine we have many injured. I have Lake in Engineering and Wylde is handling sickbay."

She ran the deep tissue healer along the upper rib and moved to the next one down. "So he did it? Kohl used the tricobalt? And yes I know we had them aboard. People forget that I am the second officer and get reports."

Luke cast a glance to Kohl and then back too Allyndra "For better or for worst, if it helps it was in self-defense I don't know what's down there but its not just an empty rock anymore." He grunted as she moved from rib to rib, "I tried" he said sadly and quietly. "I think once this is done..." He didn't want to finish his sentence the thought of retiring didn't sit well with him but the past years were catching up with the old Marine.

Allyndra did not say anything more but continued to work on the ribs and contusions.

"There you go, but being newly healed they are not up to making somersaults across the deck quite yet." It was supposed to be humour but somehow felt a little out of place. She placed a hand on his shoulder for a moment and then moved on to the less injured.

The ex-marine cracked a small smile but at least it was something, at least he could still smile after everything that had gone on. Feeling her hand on his shoulder he absorbed from her some of the warmth and comet that came with it before she left leaving a cold and empty void. Luke was tired, beaten and had very little left to give.
