=/\=Ensign Mimi to PO Hollenday.=/\= Mimi said after hitting her Commbadge.

=^=What can I help you out with Ensign?=^= John replied remembering to keep things formal when on duty.

=/\=Do you have any plans for today? I have some free time but do not know what to do.=/\=

=^=For you, I can always make time. Got off an hour ago, so free pretty much...hang on just a second.=^= John did a couple of quick taps on the computer. =^=Holodeck 2 is free, want to go there? We can do historical, or just a romp on the beach or combine the two. Got an idea or two.=^=

Mimi smiled, naturally she knew he couldn't see her but she was happy nonetheless =/\=The holodeck does sound good to me, I can be there in 10 minutes?=/\=

=^=See you there=^= John replied.

He headed off toward the holodeck and thinking through what he wanted to set up. He liked historical stuff and he had just the perfect thought in mind.
He got everything programmed up and then waited for Mimi to show up.

The deck was transformed into a tropical paradise, the wind and waves gentle on the white plains beach near Pearl Harbor. Big band music blared from the small bar on the beach and the calendar flapped in the breeze with a nice Saturday the 6th of December. John had ditched his PO3 class for a holodeck promotion to Lieutenant. The khaki uniform nice and crisp. A small parcel he held under one arm as he waited for Mimi to show.

Mimi stepped onto the holodeck in another of her go to outfits, a pale blue and white spring dress, she walked onto the sandy beach instantly regretting her choice of footwear as sand started to go straight over the sides of her flat shoes.

"Hello John." Mimi said recognising him straight away despite the unusual uniform he was wearing.

"Good morning. First off, while you look absolutely gorgeous, gorgeous, we best get you into the swing of things. Here," he handed her the package. "Get changed," he pointed to one of the colourful cabanas that stood in a row well past high tide. A bit of breakfast and then a stroll and then back here for a swim. I have the blue striped one reserved."

"You know I can not swim." Mimi said as she took the package, "Nekomi do not learn how to as children like humans do."

"Well then a stroll along the beach or I can teach you a little. We have a whole day in paradise here to enjoy and I do not want to miss a minute of it with you."

"Then I will go and get changed quickly." Mimi turned and scooted off glad that John had pointed to the building he'd reserved as she had never heard of a cabana before.

John waited and enjoyed the view both of Mimi's retreating form and then of the tropical sand, sun and wave. It was a perfect day with a perfect lady.

A few minutes later Mimi emerged, the outfit he had given her was unusual and extremely formal, it was similar to the military uniform of Johns but brilliant white and with a knee length skirt, unlike John's it didn't have a big peaked cap but she thought for the humans it was originally designed for it would have.

John turned as he heard quite steps on the sand. He whistled long and loud.
"Now that is the cat's pajamas mama!" He offered his arm. "Come on, let's go wow the town shall we. Got a car and not some Jeep."

"A car, I have heard of these, they used a very bad fuel in this century right?" Mimi asked as she took his arm and they started walking the short distance to where the car was parked.

"Depends on your definition of bad. Who cares, just enjoy." He walked along and then pointed. There she is, brand new Packard Clipper convertible, in baby blue."

"Wow, this is very nice John." She said as they approached. The car was unusual, completely different from the hover cars of the 23rd and 24th centuries, it had wheels and no roof for a start.

"Certainly is and the squadron captain will keel haul me if I scratch it up but for now it is ours for the day, come on..." he said with obvious excitement in his voice opening the passenger door and inviting her in.

Mimi got into the car sinking into the relatively low seat, she had no idea what 'keel haul' meant but it didn't sound good.

He went to the other side and with a push on the sill jumped in and then got the car going. It purred almost like his sweetie sitting next to him and he got the thing into gear. It had taken practice using the odd shifter and clutch. There was a bit of jerk and off they went headed toward Honolulu proper and where the best restaurants were. He turned as they picked up speed on the asphalt roadway leading into the city, "How do you like it?"

"It is quite bumpy." Mimi said, holding onto the car for dear life, despite routinely going millions of times faster than this in a ship actually being in contact with the ground and feeling the wind rushing past at this speed was completely new to her.

"Oh come on, it is thrilling," John replied dodging around a bicycle and a few other cars on the road. At least as they got further away from base there was less truck and jeeps to deal with. Got a place on Waikiki beach that serves some of the finest seafood on the planet. Then a stroll and I will take you onto the beach. I have a whole day planned out just you and I and paradise!"

"How long do we have the holodeck for?" Mimi asked, while John may have had a lot planned there were a lot of other people on the ship that may want to use the holodeck.

"Quite awhile, I did a lot of horse trading, now don't you fret darlin' just relax and enjoy! Ah! There we go, Waikiki beach, just get a spot to park and we are good to go." It did not take too long to find a nice spot and John parked the car and again jumped over the side without using the door. He hurried around to Mimi's side and opened the door. "There you go ma'am," he said and then held out his arm. "Now then there is a great fish place right off the sand and you can enjoy the view of the water or diamondhead."

"That sounds good to me." Mimi said as she got out of the car somewhat glad they had finally stopped.

John lead the way with Mimi on his arm. There was an open air bar/restaurant not too far away and covered with dried palm fronds. Small bamboo tables were set up but few were occupied at this time of day. A few sailors and army personnel were at the bar having some tropical style drinks or beers.

A couple of them glanced over at them and nodded appreciatively at the pretty nurse then returned to their drinks and listening to a ball game on the radio.

A Hawaiian native waiter came over and asked what they would like. "Seafood platter special please," John replied, "and some ice tea." The waiter nodded and headed off coming back with drinks in a bit.

"Where is this place?" Mimi asked "The whole area looks very nice, bright and warm, reminds me of home."

"Earth, Hawaii, Waikiki, December 6th, 1947," John replied. "Before the place got spoiled by about a million tourists. Anyway..." he nodded as the waiter was returning with a large tray. "Looks like breakfast, lunch, or I guess brunch has arrived." The waiter put down the ice tea and then placed a large platter with all sorts of prepared fish, shellfish, squid, octopi pieces and garnished with fruit primarily pineapple. "Dig in," John nodded and took a piece of fish.

"What is this?" Mimi poked her fork at a very squishy piece of seafood, she didn't know what it was but it looked horrible.

"Squid and type of shellfish, you might find the octopus tentacle interesting. A bit rubbery but crunchy as well. Tell you what, let's save the drive back, I see cabanas over there and let me go rent one. We can change and stroll without all this uniform stuff on. Enjoy!" John got up and took off to make inquiries. He also was going to do a bit of shopping.

He got another cabana and the hotel shop was selling the latest in beach wear as well. He got himself a pair of trunks and for Mimi a nice two piece, the latest style. It was considered in this time frame almost scandalous for women to show a bare midriff but things were changing. He headed back and plopped in the chair again. "Sorry took me a bit longer than expected, how did you like the platter, anything to your particular liking?"

"The octopus was not very nice, maybe to someone with more taste than I have it tastes good but to me it tasted really bad." Mimi replied, several tentacles were all that remained of the seafood platter.

"They take some getting used to," John laughed a little. "Well, how about a little stroll and then I will teach you to do a little swimming?"

"Ok, if you are sure about it." Mimi said, she certainly wasn't.

"Of course I am sure. You best learn a little just in case. What if a water storage tank gets hit and floods a corridor? Or perhaps a crash landing on a planet in the middle of an ocean?"

"You are right, it might be helpful to know how to swim in that sort of situation.

"We will take it slow. Come on, I have another cabana for us and some swimwear ala 1941. The stroll to them," he pointed to another set of the colourful painted little wooden boxes, "Should help settle your breakfast down."

"Hopefully." Mimi said. The walk to their new cabana wasn't too far and it didn't do much for her stomach, she was very nervous about this swimming thing. When they reached it she waited outside for John to get changed.

"Be right back," John said as he stepped up and went inside. It was not that he would not mind changing in front and with her, but the thing was small which was not a problem but he figured she was still a bit modest about things. "Slow and steady wins the marathon," he muttered to himself. He got the uniform off and hung it up on hooks and tucked the shoes under the small bench. The trunks went on, a bit longer in the leg then he was used to but then it was the style of the day.

"Alright," he said opening the door. "Your turn, and I got you the latest style from the hotel shop. Package is on the bench."

Mimi watched as John stepped out, his tall muscular body naked but for a pair of relatively short shorts and a small amount of hair across his chest. She purred a little but definitely loud enough for him to hear it as she stepped past him and into the cabana.

"Well nothing much to show off, need to get a bit more workout, but thanks," John replied and then made a small bow and waved his arms toward the cabana. "You are next, hope you like the suit."

Opening the package John had bought her Mimi pulled out what looked like the top half of a white flower pattern bikini matched with a larger pair of swimwear in the same pattern, quickly she changed out of her military outfit and into the swimwear, she found that compared to the bikinis of modern times this covered more of her body, all of her backside and hips were covered. Making sure everything was fastened properly she stepped back outside.

John waited and then when he heard the door and Mimi came out whistled. "Now that's what I am talking about! Yummy...chase you down the beach but instead I think a nice escort to the water, shall we?" He held his arm out.

Mimi took John's arm and together they walked towards the water.
