Mission: Episode 17 - Crystal of Life
Location: USS Galileo- XO's office
Timeline: MD -181: 1330 hrs

ON:

Tapping the chime on the door to the Xo's office Jeysa stood and waited to be let in. With Commander Ban leaving the ship mere days before the departure she had a whole new Xo to meet and figure out.

"Come in," Scarlet glanced up from her computer, taking the chance to grab her coffee and take a sip before it got too cold. With the launch of a new ship and the gathering of a new crew, there was a never ending stream of 'paper work' to get through. Which was fine...so long as the coffee kept coming.

Jeysa stepped through into the office and stood at attention before the commanders desk. "Commander Blake. Petty officer Zeror the Captains Yeoman."

Scarlet sat back in her chair so she could look the young woman over, taking her in for a moment. "Yes," she finally nodded, recalling what she'd read about her. "The yeoman who has transferred from the diplomatic corp."

"That's me Commander." Jeysa replied.

"Do you mind me asking why you decided on the change?" Scarlet asked lightly, moving to set a pot of tea to brew. The diplomatic corps was something that many people fought to earn a place in. She was curious as to why she wanted to swap it for a regular fleet ship.

Jeysa smirked slightly, Scarlet was right, many set the diplomatic corps as a final goal rather than a transition. "Would you believe me if I said boredom?" Jeysa asked.

"I have no reason not to," Scarlet assured, chuckling gently as she moved to set the tray on the desk for them. In all honesty, she doubted she herself would last long in a diplomatic environment. Maybe Jeysa had felt the same once she was there. "You want the thrill of open space?"

"I wanted to get away from Trill and see the galaxy, I got as far as enlisted camp on earth and then Rigel with the diplomatic corps, this is my first time on a proper starfleet ship." Jeysa said. "It is certainly different."

"I'm sure the next few years will open your eyes even more," Scarlet gave a small smile to her, stirring the tea as she retook her seat. She believed her motivation. It was a story shared across the ages by young people wanting to see the world. "So what can I do for you?"

"I wanted to meet you on a less formal basis." Jeysa said as she watched Scarlet stirring the tea. "As you have taken over from Commander Ban my duties involve helping you just as much as they do the Captain."

"You better take a seat and have some tea then..." Scarlet motioned to the chair with a small smile, wondering how this had played out between Jeysa and her predecessor. "How do you feel you can help me?" she asked lightly, wanting the woman's own assessment of what she was good at.

"Fetch and carry, admin, a shoulder to cry on and one hell of a cook." Jeysa replied, she hoped that didn't come across as too over the top and informal.

"Cook?" Scarlet shook her head slowly with a slight chuckle at that. No, she doubted it would go down well with HQ if she commandeered a crew member to act as her cook. "Not a talent that I possess," she admitted with a shrug, sliding a cup of tea across the desk to her. In truth though, she wasn't sure how she felt about having someone fetch and carry for her. "There's certainly a lot of 'paper' work that goes along with a ship. I wouldn't want to keep you from the Captain though."

Jeysa took a sip of the tea. "The description of my duties does say helping you and occasionally the Cob just as much as I help the Captain. Just what that help entails is whatever the officer says they need help with."

Blake nodded slowly at that, thinking on it. It felt different somehow. Between crew she ordered to do jobs under their remit...and someone to order to help her out with hers. "Let's play it by ear. I'm sure there will be times when you're snowed under."

"No doubt, there ia a lot of paperwork, even on a small ship like this." Jeysa said. "But I can make myself available when needed."

"Thank you, I'll keep that in mind," Scarlet assured honestly with a slight nod. "And let me know if there's anything you need. The last thing I'd want is for things to become overwhelming," she added firmly, meaning it.

"Hopefully I can keep that from happening." Jeysa smiled slightly. "I'm used to a fairly heavy workload but anything could happen. We will just have to play it by ear as you described."

Blake nodded easily as she set her cup back onto the desk, crossing her legs neatly. "Well if you have any questions, feel free to ask. We have a long trip together, this is no time to be walking on eggshells around each other," she assured.

"I agree." Jeysa paused to drink some more tea. "I can't think of anything important to ask right now Commander but you can guarantee as soon as I leave that something will come to me."

"Of course, that's the way of life," Scarlet agreed with a chuckle, her eyes shining with mirth for a moment. "Well, my door is open, so to speak. You can feel free to come and see me if and when you need."

Jeysa nodded. "Understood Commander."
