Mission: Episode 15 - Emanation
Location: USS Galileo-A - XO's Office
Timeline: MD 116, 1100 hrs

[ON]

With her duties layed out by Captain Saalm Jeysa walked through the ship heading deck 2 and for one of the command staff she hadn't met yet; the XO.

With the computer indicating that he was in his office, she rounded a corner and reached the door. Taking a deep breath she tapped the chime.

Aren had just leant back in his chair, and taking a moment to rub his forehead. He was taking a moment to let all the stress that had been building up since he accepted the position as Executive Officer, to release. It had only been a moment before the chime had rung. A small sigh had escaped his lip before he straightened in his chair, and gave his uniform a once over. "Enter." He called.

Jeysa stepped through the door and came to attention in front of the desk. "Good morning Sir." She said with a slight smile at seeing a fellow Trill.

Aren studied her for a moment, before he gestured for her to sit. "Please, take a seat Petty Officer. What brings you here today?" He asked with small smile of his own.

Breaking her stance Jeysa sat down. "I am assigned as the Captains yeoman Sir, part of that duty involves working for you, so I thought I should introduce myself to you."

Aren nodded, still maintaining his smile, as he noticed that she hadn't formally introduced her self. "Welcome to the ship. While you are aware, I do want to formally introduce myself. I am Commander Ban, Aren," he said using the human greeting of his symbiote first then his given name, "Executive Officer of the Galileo."

"Petty Officer Jeysa Zeror," Jeysa said back, remembering for herself she hadn't adressed herself properly in front of a senior officer, she blamed not having to be extremely formal for several years. "Yeoman to Captain Saalm."

"It is a pleasure." Aren said, as he reached for his coffee mug. It was still early enough in the day that he had only hadn't finished it yet, though he realized by now that it had gone cold. He stood and headed over to the replicator to get a refresh of his coffee. "Coffee, black, hot." He said before turning to yeoman. "Can I get you anything?" He asked.

"Some Tarkelian tea would be nice, sir." Jeysa replied.

Aren returned to the desk, a cup of Tarkelian tea and a cup of coffee in hand. He placed her cup in front of her before returning to his side of the desk and taking a seat. "Has the Captain been keeping you busy?" Aren asked.

"Busy enough." Jeysa said pausing for a moment to sip at the tea. "There is a lot of paperwork for commissioning a ship and getting it ready to get underway."

Aren nodded his agreement. "I can attest to that." He said before taking a drink from his coffee. "What are you hoping to get out of you assignment here?" Aren asked, wanting to get a mesaure of the yeoman.

"A slight change of duties and a change of scenery." Jeysa replied, probably not the best answer.

Aren nodded. "I see. Well I think that we should be able to accommodate that." He said with a small chuckle. "Do you have any questions for me?" Aren asked.

"Is there anything else you need from me other than helping keep track of any apppointments and your paperwork and things like that?" Jeysa asked keeping it simple.

Aren shook his head. "At the moment I can't think of anything, but I am sure that that is to change once we get underway." Aren said, taking another sip of his coffee. The young Trill seemed to be a bit distant, but Aren chalked that to unfamiliarity with the ship, and the command staff. "Do you have any other questions?" He asked.

"A little more personal one if I may." Jeysa said. "Are you joined?"

Aren nodded. "Yes, I am." He said, before tilting his head slightly to the left. "Why do you ask?"

"You know that we hold our joined counterparts with some fascination." Jeysa replied. "The competition to get joined is still fierce and the commission still reject countless numbers of applicants."

Aren smiled. "I will admit that sometimes I forget that. I haven't often served with other Trills." He said as we took another sip of coffee. "I am the first host of the Ban symbiote, and it has been quite the experience." He said, only then just remembering that in her file Jeysa had been found unsuitable as a host.

"I bet." Jeysa replied. "Although only being the first host you've not got all those lifetimes of memories and experiences to figure out, I applied but didnt get through."

Aren nodded. "That is true. Though since the joining, new experiences have been," he furrowed his brow trying to find the right words, "more powerful, more sensational. Its hard to describe. I distinctly remember the first time eating certain foods or doing certain things. For foods the flavors were so..." He spread out his hand searching for the right words again, before shrugging. "I can't quite put words to it." Aren said before putting on a sympathetic face. He himself knew what is was like for rejection from commission, as he had nearly failed out. "Do you mind if I ask you a personal question?" He asked.

Jeysa shook her head. "No, go ahead."

"Why did you choose to enlist into Starfleet, rather than stay on Trill?" Aren asked.

"Would you beleive me if I said boredom?" Jeysa asked.

Aren smiled. "I can understand that, so I guess I would." He said before a small beep on his PADD indicated an incoming priority message. "Please pardon this interruption, but I need to take this. If you don't have anything else for me, it was a pleasure to meet you and I look forward to working with you as we go forward. You are dismissed." Aren said reaching out his hand to shake hers.

"Aye Sir." Jeysa shook Arens hand, standing up she headed for the door.
