Mission: Episode 15 - Emanation
Location: Rigel II - Avondale Shipyard
Timeline: MD-139, 1800 hrs

ON:

Oliver Sylver had asked the computer to notify him when Verity Thorne was back. He had waited until he was back before checking where he was. The lounge. Thing was, Oliver had not told Verity about the transfer. It had been luck. It had been a lot of things. And after the showing up without checking if he was even there stunt he had done, he now made sure he knew exactly where Verity was. The roses he had gotten rid of…this time, he had purchased tulips. He didn’t even want to know how real tulips had gotten here, or how much it had taken from his allowance to get his hands on them…but he had done it.

He walked into the lounge, stopping when he saw Verity. His back was turned to him but he’d recognise him anywhere. The way he stood, his hair. He was watching the stars. Seeing him knocked the air out of Oliver. It had been so long since they had been in the same room together. And he wanted this to be a surprise. It’s why he had pre-recorded messages from the Washington so that Verity wouldn’t notice a different place. He had even gotten them sent from his old ship so that nothing could betray him. But standing there, seeing him, his heart raced and he felt…

Not scared. Awed. In love.

He had dressed up for the meeting. Black slacks, dark blue shirt with a few buttons unbuttoned at the throat. Clean shaven, hair combed. Waistcoat. He wanted to look good for Verity. He wanted to woo him. And yet, he couldn’t make himself walk over there. Not…not yet. For a moment he just took in the moment of seeing him, the way his heart raced, his breath came out short and his palms got sweaty. The emotions. The anticipation. He smiled warmly and made himself walk forward, towards him, holding the flowers.

“Verity?” he asked, his voice gentle…hopeful. Hoping he’d be happy to see him. That he was okay.

"Oliver?" Verity asked with confusion, without having even turned. He'd have known that voice anywhere. When he did turn to him, he looked him over with disbelief before grinning widely. "Oliver...." he breathed, lunging forward to him. He grabbed him tightly, tears in his eyes as he laughed, hugging him fiercely, as if scared he wasn't real. He abandoned his disbelief at him being there, not caring one shred *why* or *how* he was there....instead, he just reveled in the joy of having him close, pressing to his body as he kissed him deeply.

Oliver kissed him back, holding him tightly, stroking over his back before his hand went to his cheek. He broke the kiss, resting their foreheads together, swallowing. "Verity...I missed you," he said and smiled as he met his eyes.

"I missed you so much more," Verity assured with a soft laugh, his eyes closed as he just breathed him in, his scent, his heat, his fingers sliding up into his hair. "But what are you doing here?"

Oliver let out a breath as he watched him. The flowers were slightly squashed. He didn't care. All he cared about was this. "I got a transfer. It's closer to you."

"Really?" Verity whispered, searching his eyes with hope, a hand lowering to touch his cheek, his heart beating a shade faster. "How close? Where?"

Oliver leant into the touch, holding his eyes as he smiled. "USS Galileo," he said softly, turning his head to kiss his palm, amazed to just be able to do it. Just like that.

"Are you messing with me?" Verity whispered with something close to worry, searching his eyes as he chuckled, shaking his head quickly. "Don't mess with me about that....don't think my heart's up to it at the moment..."

Oliver chuckled as he shook his head, offering the tulips over to him. "No," he said softly. "It's serious. I...I asked for it and I got it. I'll be on the same ship as you again, Verity. And I've...missed that."

Verity's smiled returned at the assurance and he took the flowers before hugging him tightly with need, closing his eyes with relief. "Oh Oliver, you have no idea how good that makes me feel," he admitted with a laugh. "How did you manage to pull it off? Wait...no....maybe it's better I don't know. I don't care, so long as you're really coming back." He grinned, kissing him warmly before looking to the flowers in his hand. "They're beautiful, thank you so much...." he leant to smell them, willing to bet by the scent that they were real. "I have the picture you sent me in my quarters, the one of you in that cafe in Rotterdam that I told you I liked."

Oliver watched him with warmth, stroking over his side. "I had to go. And you were right...the food was amazing," he said softly, touching his cheek with love. "You've lost weight, Verity." He tried not to sound worried, but his eyes betrayed him as he studied the other man.

"It's okay," Verity said quickly, not wanting him to worry as he covered his hand with his own, stroking it gently, his fingers sliding between his. "It was when I was stuck in Starfleet Medical. I'll be back to my normal self soon, promise," he smiled at that, as if sealing the deal as he kissed him gently.

Oliver kissed him gently before leading him to sit, holding his hand. He met his eyes, searching them for a long moment. "You never said it was this bad," he said softly. "But I understand. We never want to worry each other," he leant close, to hug him gently, stroking his hair with love. He had missed this. Just holding him. Hell, he had missed a lot of other things too they did together, but for now he took this as...important. "I am here."

"I'm half convinced it's a dream, but for now I'll enjoy it," Verity laughed warmly, holding onto his hand tightly, squeezing it. "I'm sorry, I just....I thought that it would be horrible for you, if you thought it was bad but couldn't get to visit me in the ward. I....was stuck in bed for a while. The illness caused...damage to my brain and nerves. A lot of my body was paralysed while I was treated. I....wouldn't have wanted you to think about it, not while you were out there," he admitted quietly.

Oliver watched him as he spoke, his emotions coming across his face easily. Worry. Fear. Worry again. He lifted his hand and kissed it, swallowing. "I am so sorry," he said, shaking his head weakly. "I wish I could have been there. I wish I could have made you feel...safe." He stroked over his hands, looking down. "I am here now. I know you are better, but...I want to take care of you for a bit. If...if you let me."

Verity smiled softly at that, watching him with awe at just how much he still cared. It warmed him. Gave him hope. He stroked his hands gently, entwining his fingers with his. "You did make me feel safe....everyday, you sent me a message or letter. You have no idea how much it helped me. It gave me something to hold on to. Everyday, I'd wait for it, look forward to it. It got me through the really bad days, because I knew if I kept fighting and kept trying, then I'd get another message from you."

Oliver searched his eyes at the words before he leant close to kiss him, unable to stop himself. "Well, a boyfriend isn't just for Christmas..." he said softly. He let out a shaky breath before he hugged him close, protectively. "I am sorry it got so bad. How...are you recovering?"

"I'm a lot better now," he assured quickly, but took the chance to hold onto him, feeling the warmth of his skin, taking in the scent of him as he teased his fingers through the long, dark hair. He decided to be honest, not wanting him to feel like he was keeping anymore from him. "I get tired easier, I have a stupid walking stick in my quarters for the end of a long day if my legs get weak. And I should warn you that sometimes I still wake up...disorientated with it," he kissed him quickly to silence any worries. "Trust me, sweetheart, I'm a lot better than I was, it's okay now."

Oliver kissed him back, leaning to rest their foreheads together as he stroked over his arm. "Verity..." his voice was soft as he smiled reassuringly. "I do trust you. But it isn't okay. Not yet. But it will be..." he added quietly. "You're healing. But I know you, Verity Thorne. You will push yourself past your limits unless someone keeps an eye on you."

Verity smiled softly at that, stroking his cheek at the closeness, enjoying the sensation of the other man's hot breath against his skin. "I'll do whatever I'm told if it means having you close as the one who keeps an eye on me..." he teased with a wicked grin.

Oliver chuckled warmly as he stroked over his back, letting out a soft breath. "Good. So maybe we should go to your quarters and...and we can just...I don't know...get familiar with each other in the same room again?"

Verity smiled with fondness at the coy way he put it. He took hold of his hand to walk with him, his flowers in the other hand, looking across to the familiar features as they left the lounge. "I'm so confused, I just got a message from you from the Washington yesterday...."

"When the transfer was confirmed I pre-recorded...a lot of messages. So you wouldn't guess," he said and touched his hand, watching Verity with love. "I...used to do it when I went on Away Teams as well. Just...so you'd still have them every day even if I couldn't do it..." he blushed at the admission.

Verity watched him with awe, squeezing his hand warmly as he smiled. Here, he had been worried that Oliver had met someone else and hadn't wanted to say anything. And he'd been doing all this for him. All doubts had been firmly washed away. "Thank you," he said softly, shaking his head. "They've meant so much to me."

Oliver chuckled softly, blushing despite his best efforts. "I...just wanted to...I don't know..." he let out a shaky breath. "I needed to hold that connection with you. It gave me a lot of joy to...to be able to do that. To have it be my routine. I'd imagine you were sitting across from me and we were...just talking."

Verity nodded quickly, lifting his hand to kiss. "It worked," he said softly, nodding firmly. He pulled him into his quarters and the door hadn't even closed before he tugged him against him, kissing him warmly and deeply, his arm wrapped tight around the strong, athletic body. For the millionth time he wondered how on earth he had bagged this man who was way out of his league.

Oliver's hands went to gently grip him, one arm around his waist, the other hand gently cupping his cheek as he kissed him back with warmth and longing. "Verity..." he breathed when the kiss broke, meeting his eyes. "I love you."

Verity laughed softly at hearing the words. In person, they meant so much more. "I love you too," he said firmly, without doubt, without hesitation. He stole another kiss before pulling back reluctantly, to get a vase for the flowers. "But you know after such a brilliant deception I shall always be wondering if you're playing games now, hm?" he teased, clearly only jesting though as he arranged the flowers carefully in water.

Oliver chuckled softly, moving to stand behind him, his hands going to his waist to hold him. "You will always have to wonder. A man must have some tricks up his sleeve to be able to surprise," he said playfully.

Verity grinned at that, leaning back easily against him, his breath catching as he turned his head enough to kiss him. "Is that your plan? To always keep me guessing?"

Oliver kissed him tenderly, enjoying holding him, at feeling his weight against him. The trust. "Only for small things like that. For big things, I'd like to be...predictable..." he said softly. "Let me get us something to eat. We should...sit down, eat well and just...just let me take care of you?"

"You don't have to, you know," Verity said softly, looking to him with a small smile. "I'd love to share a meal with you thought. Just you and me, across a table from each other. Real."

"I'd like that," Oliver said and smiled as he touched his cheek. "I'll replicate, you sit down and relax. What are you in the mood for?"

"Having seen you? I'm not sure you can replicate what I'm in the mood for," Verity laughed softly, moving to sit down as he was told, but not taking his eyes off of him.

Oliver blushed, chuckling warmly as he moved to the replicator. He got the plates first...and candles. He set the table properly before replicating lasagne and a salad, placing it down. "What would you like to drink then? And a clean answer please..."

Verity rolled his eyes before smiling innocently to him. "Wine," he said, with a playful element of sulk to it.

He chuckled an nodded, getting the wine for Verity, meeting his eyes for a long moment as he poured two glasses. "I have missed you, Verity... he whispered and put the wine down before he sat down with him. "Now eat."

"I think that's the most romantic thing that's ever been said," he whispered with sparkling eyes. "I've missed you...now bloody eat. Should write it down, for a holo-novel."

"Hush..." Oliver laughed warmly before he shook his head, watching Verity with love. "Hush and eat, love. You need it. I'll make sure that you have what you need. All you need."

Verity watched him with love for a long moment before leaning close, kissing him deeply as he touched his jaw, unable to resist it. He only broke his lips free when he needed breath, taking it into his chest roughly as he brushed his cheek to his. "Just to make sure you're really here," he chuckled.

Oliver's breath caught in his chest as he watched him before he made himself suck in a breath. He stroked over his hair, caressing. "Really here," he whispered and kissed his ear. "Really here, beauty."

***

Oliver smiled to himself as he sat close to Verity, unable to stop it. He had been smiling all day. He reached out, stroking over Verity's leg, caressing firmly just for the sake of feeling him. And that meant the world to him. Feeling Verity there.

Verity chuckled gently, the smile almost shy as he leant in closer to him, pulling his arm warmly around him to press closer to the strong body. "You know, I had this worry that our reunion would go badly," he admitted softly, lacing their fingers together as he lifted his hand to kiss.

"I..." Oliver watched him before he smiled gently, shifting to lie down so he could pull Verity with him, the other man resting on him. He was still careful though, unsure how strong Verity was. "I was worried that you'd...find someone else. I know we agreed no hard feelings if that happened but..." he looked down, embarrassed at his own blush. "But I was nervous I'd come back and you'd break it off."

Verity searched his eyes with surprise, shaking his head softly at himself. "I feared the exact same thing," he admitted, brushing his thumb over Oliver's bottom lip. "I know I have no right to be so...possessive of you...but I can't help it."

"I like you being possessive," Oliver said quickly and kissed the thumb, closing his eyes. "I want to be yours. Exclusively." He let out a breath and met his eyes. "I think you are the love of my life, Verity."

Verity's throat tightened at the words, his breath catching. He rolled over to be on top of him, stroking warmly up over his thigh, his own leg settling between Oliver's as he kissed him. "You can do....so much better," he said softly with a smile, shaking his head.

Oliver stroked over his cheek, watching him for a long moment. "I know I can't...and I wouldn't want to," he said and touched his shoulder. "Verity...you are so much. And beautiful. Intelligent. Funny."

Verity smiled fondly and gratefully to him at the kind words, brushing his lips to the tip of his ear. "You know, you could make me believe it," he whispered with awe to his ear.

"Because it is true," Oliver whispered as he stroked over his neck, caressing for a moment. "It is true, love, and will always be true. I love you, Verity."

Verity searched his eyes with awe at the words, his fingertips raking up his jaw, followed by his lips. "Then stay close," he whispered. "Don't go."

Oliver swallowed before he shook his head, gently, wrapping an arm around him to hold him close. "I won't go," he whispered quietly. "I won't go, Verity."

"Mm, the feeling of getting my own way could become addictive," Verity teased against his lips, his leg riding up against his thigh as he ran his thumb up over his throat.

Oliver's breath shook as he watched him, his eyes getting darker before he leant closed and kissed him passionately, wrapping his arms around him. "If you give me that look, Verity, I'd do anything for you..."
